Chapter 4

The next morning I was up early because I wanted to go with Kevin to pick up my friend Candy at the airport. Candy was a fellow back-up dancer, and was also Kevin's girlfriend. We had met while shooting a video the previous year. I was surprised to see her standing at the curb near the front door. Kevin pulled up to the curb and hopped out, and I soon followed. His eyes lit up and he picked up Candy in her petite frame and enveloped her in a huge hug. After her feet were planted on the ground, she turned to me.

"Aaiiiiiii!" she squeeled at my sight.

We hugged and I took a look at her. She looked beautiful, as usual. Her jet black hair was highlighted with small chunks of green and red. I didn't know of anyone tha could get away with that and still manage to look feminine...but she did. Her asian features were remarkable--smooth flawless skin and sculpted dark almond eyes.

"Selena--girlfriend it's so weird seeing you!" she marveled as Kevin tossed her luggage into the car.

I eyed her before speaking up. It had been a year since we had last seen eachother. " I elbowed her in the waist "whaddya say about a party?"

She looked at me mischievously from the front seat of the car and whispered hoarsly "ok..does Train here have to come?"

Kevin looked at me in the rearview mirrow with his eyebrows raised. "I hope you don't plan on picking up any guys without Bri and I's approval.

I looked at him slyly "no...but we need to get your approval...if nothing to know who to stay AWAY from." I teased.

"Ouch!"

"Seriously though," I ran my hands through my hair. "I want to go to that party of Lou's with Brian. Only I'm having trouble convincing him to go. Right now he and Nick are at Bri's house making a 24 pack of Coke disapear. Bri is determined to beat Nick tonight at Road Rash."

Candy rolled her eyes.

Kevin rolled his eyes "I wish they'd give that junk up! They need to trade in a few video game marathons for some sleep..and I don't mean naps. Nick sure gets enough of them."

"I couldn't agree with you more!" I said seriously.

Candy looked at me, her eyes filled woth anticipation. "So tell me..what else are we going to do?"

"Hmmm...I think you're going to leave that part of your visit up to Kev and the rest of the guys. I don't know the area very well. Though Nick mentioned something about this new place called the Bahama Beach Club...it plays only eighties music. Nick's wicked into that stuff," I said as I watched the Florida scenery whiz by.

"What about Bri?" asked Candy.

I thought for a moment, and was surprised when I came to the realization that I didn't know if Brian was into that kind of music. I sure was.

"Well, Selena...if anyone can convice Bri to go...it's you!" said Kevin.

I didn't say anything, but I didn't think that I could agree with that. I knew that Brian loved me and respected my wishes, but he would have no problem with me going to this party wothout him. Lately I'd been having a few issues. Brian wasn't possessive enough. As ridiculous as it may seem....I WANTED him to want to know where I was at all times. Sometimes he seemed to be disinterested in me. I brushed the notion off of my shoulders and continued to study the backseat window.

"Bri, how does this look?" I asked self-consciously as I checked myself in the mirror.

He came up behind me and encircled my waist with his arms. He rested his chin lightly on my shoulder and studied my reflection in the mirror.

"Man...ya honestly think that I would go out with anyone less perfect than myself?" he joked.

"YES!" I teased. "It makes YOU look THAT much more attractive," I joked lightly.

I fingered my hair, reached for the hairspray and without realizing it I began spraying my hair with Brian still within aim distance.

"Sppp....blech...what're ya tryin' to do? Fumigate the place?" He chided with distaste. He licked his lips. "Great...my mouth now tastes like White Rain....I feel like I can go on with my day now."

I rolled my eyes, "you know...if you used hairspray your bangs wouldn't be so out of control." I sidled over to him and played with his bangs. "Actually, on second thought," I giggled. "I like your bangs...they're cute."

"With a mind of their own!" Brian added. He didn't attempt to look in the mirror though. Instead he glanced at his watch. "Are you just about ready? Nick and the others will be here soon.

"I wouldn't count on it!" I countered. Nick wasn't known for his reliability and punctuality. "Nick'll probably saunter on over after he passes the next level in Road Rash. Either that or he polishes off his 24 pack of Coke and decides that the game isn't worth sticking with without his caffeine jolt."

"Excuse me...but I RESENT that!" Nick said from behind me. I noticed Sandy timidly standing in the hall, and I gave her a quick wave.

"Awwwww," I stroked his hair. "Did I hit a soft spot--ick! Do you think you've got enough GEL in there?" I wiped my sticky hand on a towel.

Nick stuck out his tongue at me.

"Mature Nick--mature!" I said.

"Guys, Kev and Candy are waiting in the car--so I hope you're all set!"

I grabbed Brian by the arm and grinned "I'm glad you decided to come!"

He smiled slightly and kissed me on the top of the head.

"Let's get this show on the road--I have a feeling we're in for an interesting evening!" I said grandly.
