The Following Tributes for Joe (Smokin' Joe Beamer) Hager received by E-Mail.

He was a good friend who considered me as one. We had the commonality of being military veterans as well as radio veterans. I will always remember Joe for the warm smile, hearty laugh, and good times. I know where he is today, and I will one day see him again. My prayers are for his family and Andrea, who stayed faithful by his side until the end.

We loved him dearly, he was our co-worker and dear friend. On the air, Joe Beamer was superb! A flawless technician. A great entertainer. You could tell just by listening that he loved what he was doing. He had a great on-air personality only exceed by his off air persona. We look back on the years we spent working together with great memories. A sweeter more loving man was hard to find. We will keep him, his lovely wife Andrea and his family in our prayers. We know that now he is resting in eternal comfort surrounded by the Master's Peace.

My Favorite Radio Station was WKQL COOL 96.9 FM because of Smokin' Joe Beamer. Smokin' Joe was the best disc jockey in the Jacksonville market. I will miss him both personally and professionally. Not only was he my favorite disc jockey to listen to, but he was also my friend. He played the oldies at COOL 96.9 FM, now he's in Rock-n-Roll Heaven playing his music there!

I had the pleasure and the great fortune to have been able to work with Smokin' Joe at WDRC in Hartford in l970. I was just starting out in the industry as an inexperienced evening news reporter, but Joe made me feel like I was one of the old pro's. He had a great attitude toward people and toward what he did, and his energy and enthusiasm always rubbed off on others. Professionally, Joe was as great a talent as anyone in any major market....and he should have been in a city like New York or L.A. to really be appreciated nationally. I'm sure there will soon be airchecks of Joe on the internet, and I know they will serve as a model and an inspiration for the young broadcasters of tomorrow.
- Robert L. Cohen ("Lee Roberts" WDRC l970-72)
