I Will Come To You

Written: April 7, 1998

Linda Miller and Joey Vitrano had grown up together. They were best friends through everything; divorces, break-ups, pets, friends, everything! They were always prepared for whatever was to arise. But they weren't prepared for what was about to happen to them next.

"Hey Joey what's up?"

"Nothing...."

"Hmm....doesn't seem like nothing to me."

"Look Lin I don't want to talk about it," And Joey hung up the phone.

"What the hell?" Linda screamed as she violently put the phone back on its cradle,"This boy has about struck my last nerve. He's always got this fuckin' ass attitude now."

When Linda realized she was basically fighting with herself she got a tad bit embaressed. As pissed as she was at her best friend she called him back.

"Hello?" Mrs. Vitrano asked.

"Hi may speak to Joey please?" she asked politely.

"Sure Linda hold on," Mrs. Vitrano put the phone down. "JOEY TELEPHONE!"

A few moments later Joey picked up the phone and his mother hung up.

"Hel-hello?"

"Joey what is up with you," Linda could feel her voice rise.

"Look I told you I didn't want to talk."

"Well I don't really give a shit if you want to talk or not. I want to know what's up with you? Why are you always ignoring me now?"

"I'm sorry. I really am...I just oh nevermind. I gotta go."

"Wait Joe--" and he hung up before she could finish.

"DAMN.....IT!!!!" And in fury Linda Miller through her phone at her wall causing it to form a hole.

Why the hell do I care so much. He's my best friend....fuck I can't take this anymore. I have to see him. Linda grabbed her house key and walked down her stairs and out the door. When she was almost at Joey's she had this strong and unrelenting feeling to go to her and Joey's spot. So she followed the feeling and turned left to "their spot". The spot was a passage in the woods. It met up with a passage that went towards the park. They found it one day when they were playing as kids. Joey fell and sprained his ankle. And being the wackos they were they made it their spot. As Linda thought about that incident she just laughed to herself. She remembered when times were so much easier and fun. She just wished they'd go back to being fun. When she reached the spot she saw why she had come there.

"Hi Lin...I was hoping you would come here."

"But why?? How did you know I would leave my house?"

"Remember that song you played for me?"

"What song?"

"That song....the come to you song."

Linda thought for a moment,"Oh you mean 'I Will Come To You'."

"Yea that's it.."

"What about it?" Linda asked in confusion.

"Well I just knew that you would come here...you always know when I need someone. Like the song said.."I would never have to reach out for you". You've always been such a good friend."

"You have too...but what is this all about? Why have you been so upset lately?" She walked closer to her life long best friend.

"Because...well...."

"Damnit Joey spit it out."

"I love you!"

"You what?? Huh??" Linda was more then shocked.

"Just what I said, I love you." He walked to her and put his hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes.

"But why? We are best friends...how can..."

"Lin...that's the reason I love you. I don't know where I am going with this....but I just had to tell you. I couldn't hold it back anymore."

Linda started crying slowly,"Joey I..I...love you to. I just never realized it before now."

"You do?"

"Yes...I think I do."

"Well can I say this then?

"What?" she asked.

"When your nights are dark and stormy can I come to you?"

"Yes," she answered his chessy, but meaningful, question slowly while nodding her head.

Then he lifted up her chin and kissed her as noone had ever kissed her.
