Other Wells from around the country have started sending us E-mail. Many have questions that we can't answer. So I plan to post them here. Maybe you will find a long lost Wells or you may have the answer to their question. I am sorry to say a hard drive failure lost many of my E-mails, so if you contacted me and I fail to write back, try again.

Am endeavouring to fix a birth date for MARY
(or May) AMELIA WELLS who married my grandfather Arthur Basil Gladwell on 29 Oct 1898 at Hornsey,
Middlesex, England.
When married she was 23, so date of birth would be 1874,5 or 6 but apparently not in England (conjecture after an
exhaustive Records Office search).
Can anyone help with birth date and parents?

A 'Wells Family Reunion' is held every June near Wysox, Pennsylvania.
My grandmother was born Maude Wells, probably around 1880. She married Marshall Hitchcock and produced three children, one of whom is my mother, Mary Hitchcock Teeter Keir.
I became a 'Welles' through the Probate Court of Franklin County, Ohio, in 1968. My married name had begun with 'W' and I had lots of things monogramed with W. I did not want to keep my ex-husband's name, nor did I want my maiden name (Teeter) back when I divorced Mr. W., so I went to the Probate Court and became Marilyn Welles. This cost $6.75, plus $2.00 to advertise in the Court Reporter. There was a waiting period of 30 days, at the end of which I got a certificate saying I was 'Marilyn Welles.' I changed the spelling because it seemed more symmetric.

Hi there
Was browsing the web for information on our family company here in the UK and found your web site. It looks great, and is fascinating.
I am intrigued by the number of times family names appear which I thought were unique here in the UK, particularly Francis, given that a popular middle name for Wells of our clan here is Franie.
I am somewhat vague on my ancestors over here, but do know a little. I am the eldest of three sons of John Hayward Wells, who is the eldest son of Christopher 'Kit' Hayward Wells, who I am named after. Kit was the second son of Sir Richard Wells, who was the MP for Bedfordshire prior to and during the Second World War. As such he was a PPS to Sir Winston Churchill.
I am slightly hazy about the geneolagy that follows, but can say that the Charles Wells who founded and gave his name to Charles Wells Brewery in Bedford, England in 1876 was the son of George Wells. The story goes that Charles Wells, who was a Master of one of the China clippers, wanted to marry the local squire's daughter. However, the squire would have nothing to do with a sailor son-in-law, unless he settled down ashore. Charles acquired a small area of land in Bedford on the banks of the River Ouse, on which stood a large coal warfe, and a small distillery. Charles Wells Brewery now has some 350 pubs, and the family also own the largest UK malting company... where I work.
Hope this little snippet of information is of interest, and I would be interested to here if you have had contact from any other Wells' this side of the pond
Regards
Christopher 'Kit' Hayward Wells

Hello, was browsing and saw your site on WELLS , since I am interested very much in that family wanted to post this to some who may have information to share as I do. Our WELLS are in New York, Peter WELLS b. 1810 is supposed to have married 3-4 times, know defenitely one wife is Patience STRAIGHT and suspect but can't prove at this point another is Mary HAGER. The town of Wellsville, New York was named for this family . Peter's line I believe goes all the way back to James b. 1645 in England, can't prove defenitely on this, but have good reason to suspect it is so. Peter WELLS is my husband's line and is his Great Great Grandfather, one of their children Orpha Semantha WELLS married John LATTIN and one of their daughters was Patience Lucetta LATTIN and she married Frederick Monroe DOMPIER, Great Grandparents. Any one having information on the New York WELLS family would appreciate hearing from you - thank you my E-Mail is Tree Trakr@aol.com and my name is Carol Dompier
Dear Fellow Wells,
Greetings from Wells originating in Erie, PA (Harborcreek, to be specific, Erie County). James Madison WELLS married Ellen APPLEBEE, later divorced. His TWIN, Thomas Jefferson WELLS and he both fought at the battle of Gettysburg on the Union side. James Madison Wells was a supreme court judge in Chicago. He and Ellen had an only son, whom they named after his twin brother (it gets fishy, I'd have to confirm). So, James Madison & Ellen have a son, anyway. Their son marries Clara (nee Charity) Marie CHAPPELL (or CHAPEL or L'CHAPPELL) and they have a daughter, Nellie WELLS LETTERMAN; a son, Thomas Melvin WELLS; a daughter, Laura WELLS TYLER BROWN; a daughter, Josephine Margaret WELLS MATTIS HUGHES; a daughter, Virginia Ruth WELLS JOHNS GREVING; and finally, a son, John Lawrence WELLS. At this writing, only Josephine is still living. My grandfather, Thomas Melvin WELLS married Virginia (Honey) Leone MCCALL, of Clover, SC. They had 4 children, Clara Ann WELLS HANCHIN, Margaret Adelia WELLS JOHNS, Thomas Melvin WELLS (Jr.), and James Rodger WELLS. They are all retirement age. They all had several children, one of whom is requesting any additional info to be emailed: Pilarie@aol.com
My Name is Dee WELLS and I have been trying to find birthplaces of my gggrandfathers George W. WELLS, whose grandson was my grandfather and George's brother, Francis Layton WELLS, whose grandaughter married my grandfather. George and Francis were born somewhere in New York and their parents were Joseph WELLS and Elsie WOODWARD. George was born in 1834 and Francis in 1843. George married Angeline DENNIS in c.1855 (her parents were J. Peter Dennis and Mary ??) and Francis married Marrisa SHERWOOD in c.1864 (her parents were Harlow S. Sherwood and Susanna DeForest).
If you have any information on this family, I'll be very happy to hear from you. My E-mail is DWells1481@aol.com
Thank you for your time on this.

Greetings! It's Claude E. Wells, I think I contacted you once before! I have a quick question for you. In your research have you ever come across any data of references to a William Wells and his lovely bride Mary Harner m. abt. 1749 in Queen Annes County, MD. However, when they moved to VA they were attacked and killed by the rightfull owners of the land, indians. It has been hinted by someone doing research on the mysterious and elusive Zachariah Wells of Wise County, VA that this couple may of been his parents. The story is that after the parents were killed "supposedly' Zack and his brother Robert(?) joined th eArmy to fight the Indians and later they had a dispute over religion and unable to resolve their differences Zack moved to the region now in SW VA.
Any way have you ever seen anything on William Wells and Mary Harner, the massacre and anything related to a story like this?
Claude E. Wells cwells4944@aol.com or cwells4944@bigfoot.com or cewells9@bellatlantic.net
I can't help Claude, but I sure would like to know more about his question. The Wells sure were a colorful group.
