At first our heroine, Usagi/ Serena (in the U.S. version), is only a clutzy teenager, living in Tokyo, who can never get to school on time and who pigs out constantly. One day on the way to school Usagi saves a small black cat from a group of bullies. The black cat is named Luna, and it is this cat who tells Usagi she is infact the pretty superheroin Sailor Moon. Usagi then transforms into Sailor Moon and begins to fight the evil Negaverse led by Queen Beryl. Queen Beryl plans to take over Earth and she is backed by her evil monsters. At first Sailor Moon most fight the monsters alone, using her tiara. She lives as Usagi during the day and then fights the Negaverse at night. Sailor Moon's main goal is to find the moon princess and to protect her, but she really has no idea where to look for her. Luna tries to instruct Usagi on how to be a Sailor Senshi, but Usagi is more interested in the cute guy working in the arcade than any Sailor business. Soon Sailor Moon begins to be constantly saved by the dashing Tuxedo Kamen/Tuxedo Mask, another superhero, who throws roses in the way of the monsters to save Sailor Moon. Usagi gets the biggest crush on him, but little does she know he is actually the young college student, Mamoru/Darien, whom she always runs into and completely despises. A few episodes later, Usagi meets an incredibly intelligent book nerd named Ami, who transfers to her Junior High. While trying to return a disk to Ami at her computer class, Usagi senses danger and transforms into Sailor Moon. She begins to fight one of the monsters from the Negaverse and is about to be destroyed when Luna discovers Ami is one of the other sailor senshi (one of the young superheroins that fight with Sailor Moon). Luna gives Ami the transforming rod and she turns into Sailor Mercury. Then Mercury saves Sailor Moon with her mist bubbles. Sailor Mercury possesses the power of water and ice. Her powers are weaker than those of her teammates, but she uses her intelligence to help the senshi. As the show continues Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter show up and join the fight. Sailor Mars, the most passionate of the Sailor Senshi, can be a little too much to deal with at times. She is very stubborn and very mean to Usagi. But Mars is very powerful, using her power of fire. When she is not fighting, Mars is a teenager named Rei and lives with her grandfather in a temple near Tokyo. Sailor Jupiter is the tallest and most headstrong sailor. She has the power of thunder. As a normal girl Jupiter, or Mako, lives alone in Tokyo and goes to the same school as Usagi. Mako is also an excellent cook. She is absolutely boy crazy and Sailor Moon's most loyal friend. Finally in one of the last episodes in the original Sailor Moon series, Sailor Venus comes into the picture and saves the day. Sailor Venus possesses the power of the cresent beam. Before she arrived to save the sailors, Sailor Venus fought as Sailor V in England after Luna's companion, the white cat Artemis, found her. Her real name is Minako and she is very friendly and athletic. The Negaverse is now searching for the seven rainbow crystals that will combine to form the imperium silver crystal, the most powerful weapon in the universe. The rainbow crystals are inside the bodies of seven humans all conveniently living in Tokyo. Very soon the Negaverse obtains the seven rainbow crystals, and the Sailor Senshi must retrieve them. In this exciting episode Usagi discovers that Mamoru is Tuxedo Kamen, and Mamoru discovers Usagi is Sailor Moon. In that same episode Usagi learns that she, herself, is the moon princess they have been searching for and learns about her history as the moon princess: Long ago the universe was united in one great empire whose capital was the moon. The universe was peaceful and beautiful. This moon kingdom was ruled by Queen Serenity, a caring and wonderful queen, who had a single daughter. Her daughter was the princess of the moon, Princess Serena. The other Sailor Senshi were princesses of their respective planets, and Mamoru was Prince Endymion, the fiancee of Princess Serena. Then Queen Beryl attacked and the Negaverse destroyed the moon kingdom. Queen Serenity used her last ounce of strength to trap the Negaverse. She then sent Princess Serena, Endymion, and the Sailor Senshi to Earth, where they would be reincarnated as humans and would remember nothing of their previous lives. She then sent Luna and Artemis with them, instructing them to find the moon princess and protect her. Sailor Moon finally defeats Queen Beryl and the evil Negaverse after the other Sailor Senshi have been killed. Then the Sailor Senshi and Mamoru come back to life and everyone loses their memory again. Only Luna and Artemis still have all their memories. The next series, Sailor Moon R, is divided into two parts. In the first part the sailors must battle against two aliens that have come to Earth in order to gain energy for their Doom Tree. The aliens' names are Ail and Ann. They disguise themselves as humans and go to the same school as Usagi. Ail uses his flute to call monsters out of his magic cards that go and steal people's energy. During these episodes Mamoru never regains his memories, so his inner quest to protect Sailor Moon creates a new hero named the Moonlight Knight. The Moonlight Knight helps fight against Ann and Ail. Soon, however, Ann and Ail begin to notice that the energy they steal from humans is not helping the tree grow, instead it is killing it. One day when Ann and Ail didn't show up at school, Usagi and Mamoru got to their apartment to cheer them up. While there Usagi stumbles into the room that contains the Doom Tree. The tree begins to steal all her energy. When Mamoru follows to see what is wrong the tree gets him too. The other senshi come to their rescue, but can not defeat Ann and Ail. Finally the tree of life speaks to them and tells her children (Ann and Ail) to stop their evil ways or it will die. Then Sailor Moon uses her wand to heal the tree, which becomes only a small seedling again. So Ann and Ail leave Earth with their tree in order to begin a happier and more peaceful life. Mamoru regains his memories and the Moonlight Knight disappears. Sailor Moon R continues and the evil Dark Moon family from the future arrives to take over Tokyo. In the future Neo- Queen Serenity and King Endymion (a.k.a. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen) bring peace to the world and rule as King and Queen of the universe. They rule in the future Tokyo, Crystal Tokyo. The Dark Moon Family is against them and comes to the past to stop Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen from ever taking over the Earth. Their leader, Rubeus, is advised by the Wiseman, an evil sorcerer who plans to bring darkness upon the world. Rubeus uses four sisters to carry out his plan of taking over the important crystal points of the future, so that they can never be used to build Crystal Tokyo. At the same time a little girl named Chibi Usa drops down from the sky onto Usagi and Mamoru while they are kissing. Chibi Usa brainwashes Usagi's family into thinking she is their cousin and from then on she goes everywhere with Usagi. Usagi is very annoyed. From the beginning Mamoru and Chibi Usa feel some strange connection, but Chibi Usa absolutely hates Usagi. The real identity of this little girl is a mystery at first, but it is known that she has been sent to get the imperium silver crystal (which Usagi possesses). Sailor Moon converts the four Dark Moon sisters and they become happy normal women in Tokyo. After the senshi succeed in destroying Rubeus, three new members of the Dark Moon Family show up: Safiir, Esmeroode, and their leader Dimando. Dimando is also advised by the Wiseman. A few episodes later the sixth sailor, Sailor Pluto, arrives. Sailor Pluto is the guardian of the passage of time. It is her duty to prevent intruders from passing back and forth through time. She also has an attack called the Dead Scream. Sailor Pluto sends Chibi Usa back in time and appears in the eye of Chibi- Usa's Luna Ball. Setsuna is her human name. Pluto tells the sailors that Chibi- Usa is from the future and that she was sent back in time to find the imperium crystal that would save her mother in the future. All the senshi, the cats, and Tuxedo decide to go to the future, and Chibi-Usa uses her key to take them there. In the future Tokyo is in ruins and Sailor Moon discovers she is the Neo- Queen Serenity of the future, Tuxedo Kamen is King Endymion of the future, and Chibi- Usa is their daughter. Neo-Queen Serenity has been trapped in ice and the Dark Moon is taking over Earth. The Wiseman captures Chibi- Usa and turns her into the Dark Moon monster, the Black Lady. Dimando, Safiir, and Esmeroode finally discover the Wiseman's evil plot, but they are too late. The Wiseman kills all three of them. The Sailor Senshi finally stop the Black Lady and return Chibi-Usa to normal. Then Sailor Moon turns into Neo- Queen Serenity and destroys the Wiseman.
