ANGRY! Lina's Furious Dragu Slave! Synopsis written by Xelloss A dragon roars, bound with chains and locked in a barred cave. The stage opens in the center of the camp of the Dragon's Fang (Dragon No Kiba), as the bandits celebrate a new conquest. Suddenly, a light appears in the sky, falling to the ground... and explodes, setting everything on fire! From the center of the flames walks Lina Inverse, well-known as the Bandit Killer! As soon as the bandits come to this realization... their leader falls dead. Lina gathers some of the bandits' spoils in a sack and starts walking away, as morning approaches. Of course, she's not alone: she has been tracked and followed by the remainder of the Dragon's Fang. After flatly denying their invitation to join the gang, Lina, fully prepared to defend herself, facefaults as a mysterious stranger confronts her attackers. The tired white-knight dialogue goes on between the 'hero' and Lina's assailants, much to Lina's dismay. Feeling she must 'play the part right', Lina screams and howls in mock fear as the swordsman Gourry Gabriev makes a mockery of the underskilled Dragon's Fang. Proud to have saved what he thinks to be a lovely lady, Gourry turns to Lina... who falls extremely short of his expectations, in more ways than one. "Where's your daddy, little girl?" he asks, dismayed at her less-than-ideal proportions, while Lina responds, trying not to show her contempt for her idiot savior. Lina agrees to be accompanied to Atlas City by Gourry. Lina and Gourry make a small stop in a diner; "I'll have everything from here to here..." Lina says, pointing to the menu, as Gourry takes triple portions of another dish. Later in the frenzied feast, the village elder, Saman, walks up and instantly recognizes Lina as a powerful sorceress, responsible for taking out several notorious bandits in the past. He also recognizes her as the Dragon Spooker (Dora-Mata)... and when Lina asks him to elaborate, he responds, "It's short for "Dragons Step Past Out Of Clear Revulsion", to which Lina does NOT take well. Saman continues, asking that Lina take care of the Dragon's Fang. As Lina replies, "I already took care of them," Saman is astounded, seemingly at the fact that Lina took care of the black dragon. Lina turns to Gourry, who turns back. "Did you kill the dragon?" he asks, to which the reply is, "I didn't know there was one." A black dragon's sonic boom rocks the diner from above. Saman storms back in, shouting, "Why didn't you take care of the dragon?!" Lina replies, "I didn't know they had one." Bargaining with Saman for 25 gold pieces ("Necessity drives a hard bargain..."), Lina and Gourry agree to dispose of the dragon menace. Running outside, Lina is amazed at the sheer size of the dragon! According to Saman, the dragon had been purchased by the leader of the Dragon's Fangs while he was a small child, for the price of three bronze pieces. Lina nods and flicks a quick fireball at the dragon, which is quite ineffective. Undaunted, Gourry gets a little headstrong and charges off himself, first! Gourry gets brushed off easily by a swipe of the dragon's claws, dumping his unconscious body unceremoniously on top of Lina. Stuck underneath Gourry, Lina struggles to escape as the dragon lumbers near. About to crush the two with its paw, the dragon looks down at Lina. The dragon gets nauseous and steps past out of clear revulsion. Lina charges after the dragon, shouting at it, completely embarrassed and enraged! Casting "Levitation!", she gets airborne and throws Gourry at the dragon to occupy it while she begins a larger spell. The dragon tries to shake Gourry off of its snout, enraged! Lina finally, shouts "DRAGU SLAVE!" as an intense energy beam bursts from her outstretched palms, completely annihilating the dragon... and most of the city! Saman, the Elder, walks up to Lina afterwards, after she extricates Gourry from the mess. Asking for her payment, Saman retorts that Lina blew up the city she was paid to keep intact! "What about the damage?!" Lina replies, "I'll...", as she taps Gourry on the shoulder and bolts, "... let you handle it!" Gourry chases after her, while running from the angry villagers as they make their getaway! BAD! Mummy Men Aren't My Type! Synopsis written by Xelloss Two mysterious strangers stand overlooking the destruction in the wake of Lina's Dragon Slave, from the first episode. One, wrapped head-to-toe in bandages, relates his tale to the other, hooded, with greenish-grey tinted skin... Zolf was present when Lina Inverse destroyed the Dragon's Fang camp. As such, he was also burned horribly in the ensuing flames. Ranting and raving, he swears to punish Lina for her crimes, while Zelgadiss just stands calmly and shakes his head... Meanwhile, Lina and Gourry trek onward to the next town. Searching for a magic shop, they eventually stumble onto one, when Lina gets the idea to make her riches more valuable. Lina decides to head into an abandoned building to 'sort out' the valuables in secrecy. Lina finds that she has an 'Orihalcon' statue, an enchanted dagger, some old coins, and a lot of rubies and other assorted jewels. Utilizing a ritual and some arcane solution, Lina crushes flawed rubies and uses them to build magical amulets. Lina returns to the magic shop where Gourry waits, and proceeds to sell her treasures. The amulet gets a good price, but when the shopkeeper examines the dagger, its spell affects him. The shopkeeper, now entranced by the dagger's spell, goes bloodthirsty and starts chasing after Lina and Gourry. Chasing them behind the store into a courtyard, the keeper is about to descend upon the two. Gourry asks Lina if she could cast some spell and neutralize the shopkeeper. She says she could, but for some reason is reluctant to do so. So Gourry starts drawing his sword, but, again, Lina warns him not to do so. After an unsteady standoff (read: "commercial break") Lina tells Gourry to go ahead and use his sword. Right as the storekeeper is about to make his attack, a shout comes from above the store... It's the shopkeeper's wife. She berates him for leaving the store unattended. Suddenly out of the spell's power, the shopkeeper dashes back to the store, flinging the dagger carelessly back to Lina, who quickly stashes it back in safe keeping. Lina and Gourry proceed a ways further down the road until Lina runs circles around Gourry, "I'm hungry! I want to eat! I'm hungry! I want to eat!!" So they stop by a creek and, with the help of a spell from Lina, they catch some fish and fry them up. They make it to the next town later that night. At the inn, their meal is then rudely interrupted by a crew of trolls, led by Zolf, bursting inside. Zolf sends his trolls after Lina, to which she and Gourry counterattack... Lina casts a quick spell and tags three of the trolls with an odd green aura. Then she asks if Gourry could wound the trolls. Even Gourry is smart enough to know that trolls' healing power allows them to heal as soon as they are damaged, but Lina urges him to just do it, so he flicks three acorns at them, punching holes into each. Strangely, though, the trolls suddenly implode, without a trace. Lina explains, "Since the trolls' healing power is so great, the power turned around [by my spell] is also very great." So it was their own healing power that killed them. Zolf manages to coerce the other three trolls to continue the attack, and Lina defends herself by stabbing her assailant with her sword. However... the troll's healing power allows him to hold onto the sword while he swings his club towards Lina... Lina casts a quick "DIGGER VOLT!" and electricity sizzles (harmlessly, to her) through her body, and from there, through the sword by way of conduction. The troll gets zapped and falls over. Lina raises her hand to scare off the others, chanting what seems to be a fireball spell... Zolf shouts, "Run! It's a fireball!!"... but it's not. It was a light spell. Gourry, once he figures this important point out, shouts at Lina, "Kids shouldn't play tricks on grown-ups like that!!" But there's still the matter of the wrecked inn. The owner walks up to Lina and asks her how she expects to pay for the mess. Her apology to the owner sounds sincere enough to him, as it is accompanied by the offering of a ruby and a very cute voice; the owner lets them off easy. "Lucky!" Gourry and Lina head upstairs to discuss the events of the evening, wondering what Zolf and the others were chasing them around for. Just atthat moment, a rapping is heard upon their chamber door, along with a ravenous voice, "I would like to make a purchase..." CRASH! Red and White and Suspicious All Over! Synopsis written by Xelloss "He seems suspicious to me." The voice on the other side of the door continues to Lina and Gourry, "I'm sure I must seem very suspicious to you... but for now I have no intention of hurting you." Lina agrees to let the strange man in, considering that both she and the stranger have bodyguards. And so, the hooded stranger with the purple hair enters the room, accompanied by his bodyguard, the bandaged 'mummy man' from earlier that night. It seems that this 'mummy man', known as Zolf, was the hooded stranger's henchman, and was about to swipe a treasure from the Dragon's Fang gang before Lina blew up their fortress. Lina merely raises the price a bit more for the trouble the 'mummy man' caused earlier. And so, they begin deliberating over the price of the item for which this hooded stranger seeks; he won't name it, for the simple reason that if he did so, Lina would raise the price even more. So the stranger asks Lina to state her price on each of the items, and he would consider the prices and potentially make the purchase. Sounds okay, until Lina asks 12,000,000 golds for the enchanted knife and 30,000,000 for the Orihalcon statue. Zolf, Gourry, and the stranger all question why Lina's charging 100 times the street value for such a statue, and she cuts the price in half, as if that makes much of a difference. In any case, the stranger cannot afford Lina's price, but offers her 100,000 up front, with the balance to be paid later. Lina does not accept. Then the stranger asks Lina to join his gang, to which she also refuses. A deal could not be arranged, so the stranger leaves, warning Lina that at their next meeting, they would meet as enemies. The stranger also offers his name: Zelgadiss. Gourry asks why Lina asked such high prices - she said she couldn't deal with such suspicious characters. Lina shoves Gourry back to his room and tries to sleep. The next morning, the two hitch a ride on the back of a haywagon and go over the two items which Zelgadiss tried to buy. Both of them had magical properties, and could be used as beacons, but the Orihalcon statue seemed like it was made of something that could seal in magic. Neither of them is worth much on their own, but Zelgadiss seemed willing to pay a lot of money for one of them. In any case, soon they walk through a forest. Of course, the two are ambushed, this time by a horde of Berserkers. Gourry fights off most of them, while Lina fights for a while... but eventually gives up and lets Gourry clean up. When Gourry finishes them off, he tries to drag Lina on towards the next city, but finds her bleeding. Lina was casting a recovery spell, which was why she stopped fighting; Gourry ends up carrying her to the next town until she feels better, despite her protests. While Lina lies in bed, a band of trolls led by a grizzled war veteran invades her room. When they open the door to her room, she hides behind it, and slips out by hopping over top of the door. She throws a fireball back into the room and slams the door, but apparently it doesn't kill them, as everyone comes out again to attack her. Lina and Gourry fight them for a while, until, miraculously, the trolls and the old swordsman fall asleep. Seems that the purple-haired priest who walks into the room put the whole inn asleep, after noticing the suspicious band of trolls. The priest mentions that Zelgadiss probably sent the trolls. Zelgadiss, part human, troll, and demon, wants to get the Key from Lina in order to resurrect the Lord of Darkness, Ruby-Eye Shabranigdu. The priest wants Lina to give him the Key in order to keep her from danger, but Lina protests, saying that it would put him in danger. The priest names himself as Rezo, and Lina recognizes him as Rezo, the Red Priest, and one of the five wise men of the age. Gourry, of course, is oblivious to this fact. Lina insists that she hold onto the Key, wanting to prevent the Lord of Darkness' resurrection as well. She wants to be the bait, so that Rezo can sweep in from behind and take out Zelgadiss. Rezo agrees, and casts a spell on the fireballed room in order to restore its earlier condition, removing the damage. He then departs, quietly. Lina doesn't feel safe sleeping in her own room that night, so she sleeps in Gourry's room, on the floor. She doesn't feel like being a bother to him; but he can't sleep in his bed with a girl who has to sleep on the floor, so he sleeps on the floor too. Lina lulls herself to sleep with thoughts about Rezo, the blind priest with an evil-sounding name who travelled throughout the land helping people. She also finds herself troubled by Zelgadiss and his plot to resurrect Ruby-Eye Shabranigdu...
