Ninja Resurrection

by Bob Gough Ninja Resurrection "Hell's Spawn" provides dual delivery of some very interesting atmosphere and a lot of violent bloodletting. So naturally it has much to recommend it; if you're into that sort of thing and old enough to be viewing it. This is one chapter of an ongoing video series that promises a whole lot more of the same. Plot Summary: Jubai, a master samurai, loses his eye as part of his father's punishment for taking too many lives without good reason and when an alternative could have been explored. Exiled from Edo, he takes up residence in Yagyu Castle and trains two young girls in the way of the samurai. A training bout is staged to show their prowess. When the girls are ordered to the land of Edo where young girls have been disappearing and outlanders are forming an army, Jubai follows in secret. Everyone is sensing an evil force is gathering. And sure enough, demons who take the form of resurrected ninja masters are raping and killing women willy nilly. It's all part of a ritual to conjure Satan into the world of the living. Old Nick shows up by destroying a virgin sacrifice and he and the demon-ninja slice and dice their way through a local festival while Jubai comes closer to confronting their monstrous evil. Analysis: Here's where the video's duality comes in. There's a lot of feudal Japan's beauty represented here, in music, in architecture and in setting and that's as refreshing as a cool mountain stream. And you need that when you've just been assaulted with a series of bloody deaths. There is a lot of blood in the killings depicted here; highly pressurized blood that gouts out of neck wounds and sprays with the force of a fire hose. And then there's the rape scene which is extremely hard to take. And the eviscerations. And the intestines wrapping around peoples' throats and the carnage. Whew. It can be a bit much. But as dastardly as they villains are, I found I wanted to know more about their backgrounds and abilities and I most certainly want to see them come to bloody justice
