Lyrics

I LOVE THE NOW Jimmy Buffett & Carrie Fisher
It's the reason for livin'
That's what I'm givin'
I don't need a history lesson
To tell my why

I mean I'm in no hurry
To hustle and scurry
There's so much to see
And life ain't gonna
Pass me by

Tomorrow's right around the corner
I'll get there somehow
But I'm stuck in meantime
And I Love The Now

CHORUS
I Love The Now
(All the faces and places)
I Love The Now
(All the rats and the races)
It's the only place I've evr been
It's the only way that I know how

Don't talk about your superstitions
Don't talk about your cats meow
But don't talk about tomorrow tonight
I Love The Now

It's true we've got problems
How do we solve them
Better break out your thinkin'cap
And your old dunce cone

Searchin for answers like interpretive dancers
She asks me for reasons
Then tells me to wait for the tone

The whole damn world's gone crazy
The moon is jumping over the cow
How can you help
But not love the now

CHORUS
I Love The Now
(All the ranting and raving)
I Love The Now
(All the cussin' and cravin')
It's the only mess I've ever seen
It's the only place where I know how

Don't talk about your futuristic
don't talk about your "thee's" and "thou's"
Don't talk about tomorrow tonight
I Love The Now

INSTRUMENTAL

Sittin' on g
Waitin' on o
I'm excactly where
I want to go

CHORUS
I Love The Now
(All the pain and the pleasure)
I love the now
(All the blood and the treasure)
It's the only circus that I know
It's the only ring where I'm allowed

Talk about a standing ovation
Everybody take a bow
But don't talk about tomorrow tonight
I Love The Now

CREOLA Jimmy Buffett, Ralph McDonald & William Salter
Creola in my soul-a
I loved what they were sayin'
I loved what they were playin'
Creola

(CHORUS 1)
Creola on my victrola
Makes me feel like dancin'
Fall in love romancing the melody
Creola, Creola, Creola for me

I remember as a child all the happiness and smiles
That flowed around my grandma's Sunday table
While Auntie Mae was sayin' grace
Papa T would sneak a taste
And catch a funny look from my cousin Mabel

Then daddy'd beat the drum
The old folks start to hum
Sing the only songs that we all know
Ambiance so fine, dancin' drinkin' wine
Sing about the lifestyle on the bayou

(CHORUS 2)
Creola in my soul-a
I loved what they were sayin'
I loved what they were playin'
Creola

Creola on my victrola
Makes me feel like dancin'
Fall in love romancin' the melody
Creola, Creola, Creola for me

It's in the mood, it's in the blood
It's in the food, it's in the mud
It's a spicy kind of life
Cre-o-la

It's in the mood, it's in the blood
It's in the food, it's in the mud
Creola, Creola, Creola for me

(INSTRUMENTAL 2 VERSES)

Well the years have come and gone
Still the old song lingers on
I keep it in my heart with fond affection
Like the family good luck charm
That keeps away the harm
Creola's always there for my protection

(CHORUS 3)
Creola, good for your soul-a
I loved what they were sayin'
I loved what they were playin'
Creola

Creola on my victrola
Makes me feel like dancin'
You fall in love ramancin' the melody
Creola, Creola, Creola for me

FIRST LOOK Jimmy Buffett
Fun tickets in my pocket, visions in my brain
Grand father always told me it I went down
I might never come back again

I studied the language tapes
And I read all the books
Still nothing prepared me for my
Very First Look

(CHORUS 1)
It was my First Look
Baby that's all it took
Was my First Look
Around

I think I want to go flyin'
But I don't want to leave the ground
So I'll just cruise on my landing gear
And taxi round Rio town
Up to the mountain, down to the sea
Take me to Leblon where the samba queen
Waits for me

(CHORUS 2)
It was my First Look
That's when I swallowed the hook
On my First Look
Around

Amora premiera vista
Voce no kier queo insisto
Amora premiera vista
Reacion quimica

Amora premiera vista
Voca no kier queo insista
Amora premiera vista
Reacion quimica

(INSTRUMENTAL VERSE)

Six days later I was felling like a missing link
When my friends told me hey Jimmy
It must have been the hoodlum drink
Now it's time for siestas
And a belly full of rice and beans
And figure if I'm brave enough
To repeat the whole crazy scene

(CHORUS 3)
On my First Look
That's when I swallowed the hook
On my First Look around

Amora premiera vista
Voce no kier queo insista
Amora premiera vista
Reacion quimica

Amora premiera vista
Voca no kier queo insista
Amora premiera vista
Reacion quimica

MEET ME IN MEMPHIS Jimmy Buffett & Mike Utley
He's hold up down on Ramrod Key in the Tavernier Hotel
Livin' out his loneliness like an oyster in a shell
By days he pulls the trap lines
By night he lives alone
Don't really feel like company it's just him and his fridge
And his phone

(CHORUS)
Meet Me In Memphis that's where I'll be
I'm by the river please come back to me
Meet Me In Memphis my wild days are through
And nothin' replaces me next to you

He's been there since she ran away
She said, "She needs some space"
Occasionally she still calls collect
From some god forsaken place

Then one day a letter came
Postmarked Tennessee
And the envelope scent
And the postage spent
Well it lit up her old memory

(CHORUS)
Meet Me In Memphis that's what she said
Too much for a letter please come here instead
Meet Me In Memphis my wild days are through
Still nothing replaces me next to you

(INSTRUMENTAL)

I know she could break my heart again
But I'm gonna play and I'm gonna win
Where Otis would play
Da da da dock of the bay

Meet Me In Memphis that's where I'll be
I'm by the river you're by the sea
(Oh please) Meet Me in Memphis my wild days are through
Still nothing replaces me next to you.

NOBODY SPEAKS TO THE CAPTAIN NO MORE Jimmy Buffett
(Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Allie Fox & Phil Clark)
He was a fugitive with a pseudo name
Lost his mind in a hurricane
Coconut upside his head
People said he'd be better dead
Cause his glory days are gone
Sits on the shore with his saxophone
and plays

In another place, in another time
He was a soldier in his prime
On the battlefield, makin' history
Yound men died for his destiny
And their widows came each day
Till he was forced to run away
From home

So he bought a town, but he sold the sea
Claimed a shallow victory
On an iron ship, with a wooden crew
They hit the reef when the moon was new
Now he cries himself to sleep
On a beach made of promises he meant to keep
Long ago

(CHORUS)
Nobody Speaks To The Captain No More
Nobody talks about the war
Hey what the hell were we fighting for
Such a long long time ago

(INSTRUMENTAL)

And now the monkeys and the iguanas
They listen to his song
A most uncaptive audience
He plays to all night long

So the story goes, he was dressed to kill
When he jumped from the old mahogany mill
And the jungle beasts, they were heard to wail
As the saxophone still played the scale
For a man they never know who looked like me and you
Long ago

Nobody Speaks To The Captain No More
No one is interested in settling old scores
Hey what the hell were we fighting for
Such a long, long time ago

Nobody Speaks to The Captain No More
No one is interested in settling old scores
Hey what the hell were we fighting for
Such a long time ago.

FLORIDAYS Jimmy Buffett
(for Don Blanding, Wobby Weimer & "Groovula")
I come from where the rivers meet the sea
That's part of why I'm so wild and fancy free
I was early into crazy ways
My folks said, "It's just a phas"
They were hoping for better days

Now in my line of work I seem to see a lot more than most
Write 'em down, pas 'em around
It's the gospel from the coast
Reflections, not just replays
Takin' time to escape the maze
Lookin' for better days

I spent a year of my life one night
On the beaches in old Beirut
Seems that all they're aimin' for there
Is to hang around and shoot
Each others' lives away
Bloody winds on a distant bay
they're lookin' for better days

Looking to the left, looking to the right
Looking to the stars to shed some light
Hoping for a breath, hoping for break
Hopin' for the give without the take

The dreamers line the state road
Just to watch the runway show
Slouched behind their steering wheels
They just watch the big jets go
Streakin' through the morning haze
Focal point of a distant gaze
Lookin' for better days

(INSTRUMENTAL)

Pale invaders and tanned crusaders
Are worshipping the sun
On the corner of "walk" and "don't walk"
Somewhere on US 1

I'm back to livin' Floridays
Blue skies and ultra-violet rays
Lookin' for better days

I'm back to livin' Floridays
Blue skies and ultra-violet rays
Lookin' for better days, lookin' for better days
Lookin' for Floridays

Better days, better days
Everybody's lookin' for better days
Somewhere beneath the shining star
Better days, mon't you take me to better days
Better days, I sure could use a few better days

IF IT ALL FALLS DOWN Matt Betton
I never wanted to be
A man of mystery
My life's an open book
by James Joyce and Agatha Christie

Sometimes I get confused
Somwhere around page two
I live the perfect crime
And crime pays more than it used to

They're checkin' the evidence
May be come charges pressed
The only one they got me on
is some misdemeanor craziness

(CHORUS)
If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
If they solve my life if they find me out
Never thought to keep all I have found
I hae had my fun If It All Falls Down

If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
I hve had my fund I have bought a few rounds
And been out on the town way out on the town
Way way way out If It All Falls Down

Never wanted to be
A part of history
I have my days in the sun
A beach bum a man for all seasides
Guidance counselor said
Your scores are anti-heroic
Computer recommends
Hard-drinking calypso poet

Studied life at sea
Studied life in bars
Never passed my S.A.T.'s
So I thought I'd study extra hard

(CHROUS)
If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
I have learned my trade from the inside out
I can strum real hard I can play ral loud
I can charm a crowd If It All Falls Down

If It all Falls Down falls down falls down
I can warm a crowd I can make them shout
I can juggle verbs adverbs and nouns
I can make them dance till they all fall down
We had plenty of doctors
We had plenty of lawyers
We had people to make us things
We had people to sell us those things
We didn't have enough room for those things
We build lots of self storage
Calypso poet shortage
Calypso poet shortage

If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
I'll have filled that void from city to town
I'll have spent my money and taken my bows
I'll have had my fun If It All Falls Down
If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
If they solve my life if they find me out
Never thought to keep all I have found
I have had my fun If It All Falls Down

If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
I can charm a crowd till they smake danced round
With calypso beat down island sound
I can make them dance till they all fall down

If It All Falls Down falls down falls down
I can charm a crowd I can make them shout
I can juggle verbs adverbs and nouns
I can make them dance till they all fall down

NO PLANE ON SUNDAY Jimmy Buffett and Michael Utley
You can throw your luggage down
Lose your cool and stamp around
But there's nothin, nothin you can do
Wipe away your girlfriend's tears
Go to the bar and have some beers
There ain't no way the bird's gettin through

(CHORUS)
No plane on Sunday
Maybe be one come Monday
Just a hopeless situation
Make the best of it's all you can do
till they get through

Overheard the engineer
Say somethin' 'bout the landing gear
Now we're runnin' strictly on island time
I know you got someone back home
So do I it's tough alone
Awh come on, it's just a minor crime

(CHORUS)
No plane on Sunday
Check it again come Monday
Just a hopeless situation
Make the best of it's 'bout all you can do
Baby it's true

We shouldn't spend these precious hours tryin' to figure this out
We don't know where the story ends
Let's don't go back to just being friends

(INSTRUMENTAL)

So they went walkin' on the beach
Quarter moon within their reach
So they stole it and tucked it in their hearts

That's when they heard the engines hum
And realized the dawn had come
It was over, over from the start

(CHORUS)
No plane on Sunday
Just another lonely Monday
Awh make the best of a bad situation's
'Bout all you can do
Baby it's true

Oh-oh-oh-oh baby it's true
Oh-oh-oh-oh baby what's new
Oh-oh-oh-oh baby what's new

WHEN THE COAST IS CLEAR Jimmy Buffett & Mac Macanally
(for Emery Clark, who paints it better than I can say it)
They're closin' down the hangout
The air is turnin' cool
They'r shuttin' off the "superslide"
The kids are back in school

The tourist traps are empty
Vacancy abounds
Almost like it used to be
Before the circus came to town

(CHORUS)
That's when it always happens
Same time every year
I come down to talk to me
When the coast is clear

Hello mister other me
It's been a long time
We hardly get to have these chats
That in itself's a crime

So tell me all your troubles
I'll surely tell you mine
We'll laugh and smoke and cuss and joke
And have a glass of wine

(CHORUS)
That's where it always happens
Same place every year
I come down and talk to me
When the coast is clear

(INSTRUMENTAL)

It's the only place he knows
Where it always happens
Same place every year
I come down and talk to me
When the coast is clear

YOU'LL NEVER WORK IN DIS BIDNESS AGAIN
Jimmy Buffett, Michael Utley, Vince Melamed, Josh Leo, Willie Weeks and Matt Betton
(For all of those who have dared to try, made it and lived to tell about it.)

He told it to the monkeys and they didn't talk back
Then he told the old iguana and he didn't attack

They told me before I started
That it never ever would work out
Stay in school, don't be afool
But I had to see what life is about

So I went to Biloxi seeking fortune and fame
I got hired, I got fired, I got called dirty names
You'll never never work in dis bidness again
No you'll never, no never
Never work in dis bidness again

I knew I needed representation
and I found it one night in a bar
He was a bondsman and a part time agent
And he said that he would make me a star

He said, "You don't have to be that good
To make it out in Hollywood
You just have to change and complain."
Or you'll never, never work in dis bidness again
You'll never, no, never, never work in dis bidness again.

(INSTRUMENTAL)

I parked cars at the Rainbow
I sold maps of the stars
I got my nose broken in Spago's
When I puked on the bar

All I played's a double barmitzvah
Bubba played a double bar mitzvah

It's a jungle out there
We love it
Hell, I don't care
I'm going back to my predator friends
I will never, never work in dis bidness again
No, I'll never, no never, never work in this bidness again
You'll never, never work in this bidness again.

+Jimmy Notes+

In retrospect, I wanted to call this album Floridaze. This was the first time we had been back home to record since the Changes album, and we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale at the height of spring break. Just sitting at Ernie's on US 1 watching the crowd was more than enough food for thought to update the Florida experience. I got a real bad review from a writer in Miami who expounded on the fact that I was too serious on this record. I laughed my head off because I have never taken any of this stuff too seriously.
