“Where are we gonna go?” Rae asked.
“Well, I was thinking that maybe you’d want to go meet my family. They’re dying to see you.”
“I’d love to meet them.”
He smiled, “Let’s go back to the hotel.”
They called a cab and asked the driver to take them to the back entrance of the hotel so they’d have a better chance of not being recognized.
Howie went to the front desk to see if they had any messages while Rae went on ahead upstairs.
In the elevator, he looked over his messages, “Nick, Mom, Emilee, John…EMILEE? Why is she calling me?”
He went up to the room and gave Rae her messages. Sitting down on the bed, he picked up the phone and dialed the number that Emilee had left.
“Hello?”
“Emilee, this is Howie.”
“Hi, Howie, how are you?”
“I’m fine. What did you need?”
“I’m going to be in New York and I was wondering if you would possibly come to pick me up from the airport.”
“Why don’t you call A.J.?”
“He didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?”
“We broke up last month.”
“So why do you want to see him? And why don’t you just call him?”
“I want to see him because we’re still friends. I didn’t call him because I’m afraid he’s a little upset with me.”
“Oh. Well, I’m with my girlfriend right now and we’re going to Orlando tomorrow.”
“Oh. Can you give me the number where Kevin is? I can’t seem to find it.”
“He’s in Milan with Nick.”
“Could you give me his number?”
“I’m sorry, I can’t. I gotta go now Emilee. I’ll try to call you back, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to.”
“Thanks Howie.”
“Bye.”
He called everyone else back except his mother. He let Rae use the phone before calling her back because he knew that she’d keep him on the phone for hours.
After Rae finished her calls, she climbed in the shower. Howie called the airport to book their flights and went to join Rae, not calling his mother back. He wanted their visit to be a surprise.
