“Hey Kira!” she shouted, “I want to talk to you!”
She jogged over to Kira, who tried to avoid her. She grabbed Kira’s elbow and spun her around.
“Look, we really didn’t get a chance to clear things up the last time we spoke.”
“I think things were pretty clear,” Kira said coldly.
“Paul and I aren’t together anymore. We broke up shortly after the last time we talked.”
“Oh.”
“So, I hear you’re with Kevin now.”
“Yeah I am. We live together. Why do you want to know?”
“I just wanted to know who my next conquest would be. Have a nice day.”
“You sorry little whore.”
Kira lunged at Shelley and threw her to the ground. “You stay away from me and stay the hell away from Kevin. Do you understand?”
“Yeah.”
“Good,” she said and walked away.
Shelley got up and dusted herself off. Then she attacked Kira, accidentally knocking her down the escalator. All Kira saw when she reached the bottom was Shelley’s face. Then, everything faded to black. She woke up in the ambulance. The paramedics asked if she was allergic to anything and if there was someone that they should call.
“I’m not allergic to anything. Call Kevin Richardson. He’s at my studio. Tell him to hurry,” she said and passed out again.
When she woke up, Kevin was sitting beside her.
“Kira, are you all right?”
“Yeah, I’m a little tired, but I feel okay.”
“I was so scared that I had lost you. Don’t ever do that to me again.”
She smiled at him, “I won’t.”
He hugged her tightly, “I love you Kira.”
“I love you too, Kevy.”
Outside the door, two doctors watched the happy couple.
“This is the only time I hate my job,” the first one said to the other.
“I know what you mean.”
The first doctor walked inside.
“Miss Samuels, I’m afraid I have some bad news for you…”
Kira sat in the passenger seat of Kevin’s 4runner in shock.
“Kevin, pull over, I think I need to throw up.”
He pulled the car to the side of the road. She got out and emptied her stomach onto the side of the road. Kevin held her hair back for her.
“Are you all right, baby?”
Tears formed in her blue eyes, “I didn’t even know I was pregnant Kevin.”
“I know. If only you hadn’t run into Shelley…”
“I don’t know what would have happened. I mean, we didn’t even know. What do you think would’ve happened? God has a plan for us, maybe He thought it wasn’t time for us to have a baby.”
“Maybe…” He bit his bottom lip, deep in thought.
“Kevin, can you take me to Tristan’s house? I need to talk to her.”
“Sure.”
He pulled into the driveway of the house that Tristan shared with Nick.
“I’ll wait in the car if you want me to.”
“Thank you.”
He sat in the car and thought about the baby Kira had lost. He imagined what it would’ve been like to play ball with his son or play tea with his daughter. He remembered his own father and tears came to his eyes. He quickly wiped them away when Kira came back to the car.
“Tristan and Nick are coming to the house for dinner tomorrow night.”
“Okay. Do you want to go home?”
“Yeah. I’m a little tired. I need some sleep.”
“I do too. I haven’t slept a lot since…”
“I haven’t either. Let’s just go home.”
He started the car and went towards their house. All he could think of was the child that he almost had. They got to the house and went directly to sleep. Kevin dreamt of a baby and his father. In his dream, his father told him that he’d watch over the baby until it was time for him to join them.
Kevin woke up in a cold sweat. Kira rolled over and looked at him, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Bad dream.”
“I couldn’t sleep. I keep thinking about the baby. Shelley killed our baby.”
“It wasn’t her fault. She didn’t mean to knock you down the escalator. It was an accident.”
“Was it? How do you know that? She told me that she’s coming after you. She and Paul broke up you know. Now she’s going after someone else that’s important to me. When will it end? I thought when I left Sliversin that I was through with her. But it’s not over yet Kevin. She’ll keep coming back until she’s got my life. She’s crazy.”
“It’s okay, she’s not going anywhere for a long time. The police have her now. She was arrested for knocking you down the escalator.”
“But she’s going to claim that it was an accident and they’ll let her go.”
“She’s got to go to trial first.”
“She’s gonna get out on bail. She’ll come after me again. I know her, she’s crazy.”
“Baby, it’s gonna be all right. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
