“I think I’ll just leave them alone.” She thought.
She walked back to the waiting room and sat down next to Sandra.
“Is she okay?”
“Yeah, she’s fine. Kevin’s taking care of her.”
“Thank God for Kevin. I wish I could be in there with her, but I’d break down.”
“She’s so drugged up right now, she’d probably barely even recognize you,” Lori said.
The doctor walked in and Nick jumped to his feet, “How is Angie?”
“She’s fine. She’s out of surgery and she’s resting.”
“Can we see her?”
“One at a time.”
Sandra got up. “She’s my cousin, so I might as well go see her first since I can’t bear to be with my daughter. I might break down.”
“Good idea,” Ann and Jane agreed.
Nick sat down in the corner.
Sandra walked out of the room and the doctor walked over to Nick.
“What’s wrong?”
“I kind of need to talk to her.’
“Oh. Is she your girlfriend?”
“No…” he said.Not yet.
“If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask me.”
“Could you tell me what’s wrong with Angie?”
“She has a mild concussion, a fractured wrist, a broken fibula, some minor cuts and bruises on her head and body, and a lot of trauma to her mental being.”
“Oh…Is there anything I can do for her?”
“Pray. And be there for her.”
“I will.”
The doctor walked away and Brian snickered from behind him, “I knew you liked her!”
“Do not!”
“Guys! Not here!” Howie said.
“What?” they said.
“No fighting, please! This is a hospital.”
“We know,” Brian said, “And we weren’t gonna fight, either.”
“Sure you weren’t,” A.J. said.
“Shut up!” Nick said.
They sat down and Brian looked over at Nick, “Why don’t you go see Angie next, Nick?”
“I just might do that,” he said, shooting Brian a vicious look.
Jane smiled and Aaron scowled.
“Sandy, I’m really tired. Can’t I just have a little nap?”
“No. You have a concussion and you have to stay awake. Dani’s got one too and she’s staying awake even though they gave her some serious painkillers.”
“Who’s with her right now?”
“Kevin.”
“They’re probably getting busy.”
“Huh?"
“You heard me. It’s almost impossible to keep someone awake just by sitting there. They’re probably doing it so she stays awake.”
“I doubt it.”
“You’re right. They would never do it in a hospital, too creepy.”
Sandra looked at Angie and silently wondered if they’d given her any painkillers. She glanced at the clock and noticed she’d been there for almost 20 minutes.
“I gotta go. I’m hogging you and there’s a room full of people waiting to see you.”
“Send them in.”
Sandra walked out, giving her cousin a hug.
“Next,” she said as she walked into the waiting room.
Nick got up off the couch and was followed by catcalls from the guys.
“Shut up or I’ll hurt you,” he grumbled.
“Think we struck a nerve,” A.J. said.
“You guys joke around too much!” Nick said.
“You should talk!” Howie almost shouted, surprising himself.
“I’m sorry if it pisses you off that we’re joking around. Angie and Dani are really good friends of ours and we want them to be okay just as much as you do. I guess we’re joking around to relieve some of the tension in this room,” Brian said apologetically.
“Whatever,” Nick said as he walked out of the room.
