Epilogue

“Maria?” I asked as we sat in the clouds one day. “When will I get a person assigned to me?”

“When the child is born,” she answered. “But I think in this case I should give you a preview of the future.” The crystal ball she had used to first show me my task appeared. “Watch the ball and you will see the child that you will guard.”

An image of two people appeared. As I looked closer, I saw it was Brian and Eve. They were in a hospital room and Eve was holding a baby.

“Oh Brian, she’s beautiful,” Eve said softly as she smiled up at Brian and gave him a kiss. “Thank you for helping me bring a child into this world.”

“You’re welcome, Mrs. Littrell,” Brian answered, returning her kiss.

“Isn’t she darling?” the nurse who had just entered the room cooed. “What are you going to name her?”

“Miranda,” they said in unison.

“Very pretty name,” the nurse complimented. “Any special reason?”

“She was the person who was responsible for bringing us together,” Eve replied.

The screen went black. “Well, what do you think?” Maria asked.

“A little Miranda,” I said with a smile. “I think I can handle that.”

I walked away from Maria in a daze. To think that I influenced Brian and Eve so much that they named their first child after me was so incredible. It was great to think that I was responsible for getting them together. Thinking back to my mission usually made me sad knowing that I couldn’t see Eve, Brian, or Kat. But then again, there was always the afterlife.
