"Is she really that bad?" asked Howie
"You had better believe it" answered Kevin "This tour is going to be something."
"Well you never know." Howie said, " =She may just need time to adjust. Where is Erin from anyway?"
"I don't know." Kevin told him, "Neither does Brian. I know the plane she was on came from NYC so I'm guessing that Erin's from there."
"Why does Brian not know?" asked Howie in a surprised tone. "I would have thought the social worker would have told him that kind of thing."
"I thought so too. Apparently if the minor is 16 or over the state doesn't tell the guardian their background. Some of the minors have been involved in gangs etc. and want to make a fresh start. The state figures if the minor wants to tell their guardian about their life that's fine. If not, that's the minors business."
"Gee, I'd think I'd want to know if a kid I took in had a history of drugs or something." commented Howie.
"Me too." Kevin agreed.
"You don't think she could have been involved in gangs or drugs do you?"
"Understand that I was in a car with her for a half hour. She barely talked at all. I don't really know her. Brian called this afternoon and told me about his shopping trip with her. That's the only reason I know so much."
"Yeah, but offhand what would you say?" prodded Howie.
"I wouldn't put it past here to be in a gang. She seems very tough, like a street kid. I don't think she was on drugs though. She doesn't seem that type."
"What does she look like?" "Well, she is actually quite pretty. She has long blond hair and is about average height. Her hair needs to be trimmed though and she's too skinny. She looks anorexic, but I wonder if she just didn't get enough to eat. Brain said that this morning she acted like shredded wheat was the best thing in the world. She has green eyes. They are really pretty, but also very cold. She kind of scans you with them as if she's sizing you up. Altogether she seems a very cold calculating person."
"Maybe she'll thaw out after a few weeks" Howie suggested.
"I hope so, I really do hope so."
