Chapter Two

The security guards took me to what seemed to be the break room. It was small and quaint. It had lockers lining the walls. On one side was the counter where there was a coffee machine and a few cupboards. There was a round wooden table in the middle where I sat with one of the officers sitting across from me.

"Ma'am, you were very disruptive to all the patients. We are going to have to file a complaint. Can you give me your name?" said one of the officers, breaking my gaze. I sat there gazing at my hands. I wasn't really paying any attention to the officer. I was only thinking of how much I wanted to hurt that man.

"Excuse me, did you say something," I asked nonchalantly.

"Yes, ma'am, I need your name."

"Oh, Jennifer. My name is Jennifer Riley." I said. The man wrote my name on a form. Just as he was about to ask me another question, the other officer came back into the room.

"Here ma'am, You should really clean up," he said handing me a towel and some fresh scrubs.

"The washroom is this way."

"Thank you," I said taking the scrubs in one hand and the towel in the other.

I walked through the door marked Women. I went into one of the stalls and quickly got dressed into the scrubs. I walked out and proceeded to wash my hands and face. I also tried to wash my hair out.

When I walked out, the officer that had given me the scrubs approached me.

"Miss, the Doctor whom is taking care of your daughter is looking for you. He needs to speak to you."

"Thank you, which way do I go."

"Just walk right out of this room and look to your right. He should be waiting there."

"Thank you."

I ran out of the room forgeting about my ankle and looked to the right. There was the man who had taken Kaleea from me.

"Are you that little girl's mother," he said looking at me.

"I am, is she ok?"

"What is her name? and what is your name,"

"Her name is Kaleea Riley, now is she ok?" I was starting to get angry.

"Well Miss Riley, she suffered many head injuries. She has a concusion. She also has a nicked aorta, which we need to fix through surgery."

" Doctor, I don't care do what you have to do to save my little girl. What are the chances she will have of survivng?"

"I am now going to lie to you ma'am. They are very slim. She was a very little girl and she was hit by a large car."

I stood there trying to obsorb this. I had to let them do the surgery.

"Sir, where do I fill out the papers, I need you to do the surgery."

"These are the papers," he said handing me a large clipboard with a million papers on it.

"I have to scrub and get her prepared for surgery."

"Thank you Doctor," I said as he ran down the hallway and around the corner.

I walked with the papers to the chairs area where the nurse was.

"Excuse me Nurse, do you think you can hold these papers for me while I run out to my car."

"Sure Miss."

"Thank you," I said and quietly limped toward out of the slidind doors and toward the parking lot. The rain had stopped but the ground was still wet.

I walked to my car and opened it up carefully. I grabbed my bag which contained my wallet, insurance card, cell phone and other important things I needed. I closed the car up and locked it. I stepped down on my left ankle and winced in pain. I thought to myself that I should get that looked at.

I proceeded to limp back to the sliding doors. In a corner, I saw the man who I had previously been yelling at. He saw me and walked over in my direction.

"Excuse me ma'am. My name is AJ McLean. Can I please talk to you?"

"Look, Mr. McLean, I have nothing left to say to you. The next time I speak to you will be in a court room." and with that I started walking away and then I felt someone grab my arm. I swiftly turned around,

"Please ma'am, what was her name? Is she going to be alright?"

I took a little pity on the man and decided that maybe I should tell him atleast her name and how she was.

"Her name is Kaleea Elizabeth Riley, and right now she is in surgery. She has a nicked aorta, a concusion, and multiple head injuries. She has a very slim chance of living. Are you happy Mr. McLean?" and with that I swiftly turned around, walked through the sliding doors and back to the chairs area not looking back once.
