Chapter Seven: Horse Play

"…. .she was in a plane crash. She was flying from London to Paris and the plane had mechanical problems. They couldn’t get to the nearest airport fast enough. I’m so sorry, I was gonna wait t tell you ‘til you two came back, but I just couldn’t hold it in any longer."

Megan totally lost it.

She had never been close to her mother but she was still her mother. She stood up and ran down the beach. Nick started after her, but BJ stopped him.

"Let her run, it will help her cope with what happened. I mean how would you feel if you were just told that mom had been in a plane crash without any survivors. You can come back down and look for her later." She tried to calm her older brother down.

He was upset that Megan was upset. She grabbed his hand and dragged him back to the house.

When they walked in the door without Megan everyone looked worried.

"She ran down the beach as soon as BJ finished her sentence. I’m gonna go look for her in a few minutes, let her get it all out. This is going to hard for her and she is going to need our help." v Everyone agreed that they were going to have to help Megan get though this.

Ten minutes later Nick headed out the door to go and find Meg.

He found her sitting in the sand, her knees pulled up to her chin and her arms wrapped around them. She was starring out at the sea.

When he looked at her he could feel his heart breaking. She had tears streaming down her face.

Nick sat down next to her and she knew exactly who it was. She turned and threw her arms around him. He was so sorry for her.

He held her for a long time. They sat there is the sand, not saying anything. The sun had long since gone down. Nick noticed it and thought it was time for them to go home.

He hadn’t noticed that Megan had fallen asleep in his arms. He just looked at her. She was so helpless, and so heartbroken.

She looked so peaceful, he didn’t want to wake her up, but he couldn’t carry her all the way back to the house. "Meg, it’s time to go home." She woke up and he helped her up.

They reached the house. Everyone was sitting in the living room. "Meg?…" Brian started.

"NO!! Not him too!" Megan knew by the tone in his voice what had happened. She calmed down and sat down on the couch. "How did it happen?"

"Meg, I’m so sorry. Car crash. He was rear-ended and the other person was killed instantly. Your dad was in critical condition, until about 10:30. We decided to wait to tell you. We didn’t want to overwhelm you."

"This isn’t happening. Why both of them, at the same time? I know I was never close to either one of them but they’re my parents. And where am I going to live. I’m an orphan. This just isn’t happening." She sobbed.

"Well, remember since you don’t have any older siblings to take custody of you, my parents automatically become your legal guardians. You will have to move in with us." Nick said.

This didn’t help. Megan got up and ran out of the house. Nick got up to go after her but Brian stopped him this time.

"Let me go after her this time. I don’t think you’re are helping right now, Frack." Brian got up and headed to the door. He walked outside and heard the door to the house next door slam. Megan was inside her mother’s house. 'Well, at least she isn’t going to get hurt.' Brian thought to himself.

He walked up to the house. He had spent a lot of time there when Megan was around, she always had the guys over there because her mom was never around and she needed the company. He turned the knob n the door. It was unlocked.

He stepped inside.

"Nick, go away!" It came from the living room.

"It’s not Nick, Meg."

"Oh. Sorry Bri, I just don’t really want to talk to Nick right now. Come on in." He walked in the room and sat down next to her on the couch. She was surprisingly calm. She was pale and looked awful but what could you expect?

"Why don’t you want to talk to Nick? Did you have a fight?"

"No, we didn’t have a fight. I just don’t feel like talking to him right this moment."

"OK. So how are you doing? I’m so sorry, I was really shocked that you took it this well."

"I feel more sorry for you. You were the one that had to tell me. I was so shocked I guess it hasn’t hit me yet. Both my parents are dead. Gone forever. Never to return. This is not happening. I’m dreaming, asleep. And I’m going to wake up and my parents are going to be alive and healthy."

"If this is a dream, I’m dreaming the same thing, because I know what I heard when I picked up that phone. I’m so sorry. Meg I don’t know what I would do if I was in your place. But, you will be down here all the time."

"Yeah, Nick seemed to be really happy about that. A little too happy, considering what has happened. I am glad that I’ll get to spend more time down here, but why did both my parents have to die to make that happen? It’s not fair, what did I do to deserve this?"

"Nothing. It is not your fault that this happened. It was thousands of miles away and there is no way you could have stopped it from happening. It was meant to be, just like you and Nick."

"What?"

"’What?’ What?"

"What did you just say? About Nick and I?"

Brian sighed "You were meant to be together. You two were made for each other. It is so obvious. You were meant for each other."

"You really think so? Wow."

"Yeah, well, it’s the truth."

"Brian?"

"Yeah?"

"I don’t want to go back over there right now, but I don’t want to be alone. What time is it?"

"12:30, why?"

"Could you go and get everyone? Aaron and Angel can sleep over here. I just really don’t want to get up and go back over there."

"Sure, no prob. You want everyone?"

"Yeah, I need my support system. Could you call the other guys too. We have enough room. I think we should spend some time in this house anyway. It’s been neglected since I’ve been here."

"Sure, whatever you say. Ma and Pa will be home tomorrow and I don’t think anyone is going to school." He smiled at her, and then went out the door to go get everyone else. Big Brother Brian She though.

Ten minutes later everyone was at her house. If they weren’t carrying one of the twins they had food and drinks.

AJ, Kevin and Howie weren’t far behind. They came in and they all sat down in the living room, after the twins had been set up in Megan’s room.

Nick sat down on the couch next to Megan, Shayne sat on the other side of her. She was tired.

BJ turned on the TV and turned it to MTV. MTV news had just ended and they were getting back to playing videos. No one paid attention to the TV though, they were too worried about Megan.

She had curled up next to Nick, with her head on his chest and her arm wrapped around him. He had his arms around her and looked like he was never going to let her go.

After a few hours half the people had either gone gone into the other room to watch a movie or gone upstairs and gone to bed. BJ had gotten Shayne to get off the couch because neither Megan nor Nick looked very comfortable.

Megan had long since fallen asleep, still holding on to Nick, and not long after Shayne got up and Nick had laid down on the couch with Megan, did Nick himself fall asleep. Lucky for them it was a big couch. It didn’t look like Megan was going to be letting go of him for a while.

When she noticed her older brother asleep with his best friend next to him, BJ smiled to herself and spread a blanket over the two of them. She kissed her brother on the forehead and noticed that he had a small smile on his face as he slept.

She pulled Shayne up and they went into the spare bedroom downstairs and fell asleep an the bed almost as soon as they hit the mattress. It had been a long day for everyone, especially poor Megan.
