Chapter Eight

Megan walked into an empty room. BJ was at a party with Shayne and wouldn't be home until later.

"This is just great! He didn't even notice! Men! How could he not have noticed that!"

After a few minutes of sitting in the dark she turned on the lamp on the bedstand between the two beds and stood up.

She changed into her shorts and tank top that she slept in and picked up her brush. With out using the mirrior she brushed it until it was completely free of tangles and pulled it up into a pony tail, high on her head. She walked into the bathroom and washed her face quickly and brushed her teeth. Turning off the light and shutting the door behind her she walked back into her room and over to her bed, and laid down. It wasn't until then that she noticed the piece of paper that was taped to the mirrior.

Once again she stood up and walked over the the mirrior. The piece of paper had her name on it. She took it off and walked over to her bed, so she could use the light to read it.

It read:
You have something that belongs to me. He is tall, blond and mine. He doesn't know it, but he's always been mine. Ever since we were in school. I'm watching you, and when you least expect it, I'll get you.

Yours Deadly,
Wouldn't you like to know.

PS- It really is too bad about your parents...

Megan starred at the writing, tears in her eyes. She read it over again. No one she knew had that hand writting. Her parents? Why did they have to say something about her parents? The thought made the water that had been collecting fall down her cheeks.

This was scarring her. And she only went to one person when she was scared.

She stood up and walked, note in hand, to Nick's room. Thinking he might have fallen asleep, she knocked quickly on the door she had slammed shut only a half an hour before, not wanting to stay in the dark hallway by herself any longer then she had to.

"Coming." Nick said as she heard him walk to the door. He opened the door and was surprised, at first to see Megan there and then to see her crying.

"Meg, what's wrong? If this is about earlier, I'm sorry."

All she could do was walk into the room and into his arms. "It's not about that. It's not about that at all. At this point I'm not even sure I know what that was about."

"Then, Sweetie, what's wrong?" he lead her over to his bed and sat down, sitting her right next to him.

"This." She handed him the offending paper. He looked at her oddly before reading what it said. She watched as his eyes widened. He looked at her.

"Meg, I'm so sorry. So, so sorry." He put the note on the bed and wrapped his arms around her. "It’s gonna be OK. No one is going to hurt you, I promise."

"Nick, I'm scared. My parents. They know about my parents. Nick, no one knows about my parents. I'm so scared.

"It's OK. Your safe. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. Ever. I'm so sorry that this is happening. You didn't do anything to deserve this."

"Apparently I did. I fell in love with you." Nick was a little shocked when she said this. They had told eachother that they loved eachother. But that was the first time she had said anything about being in love with him.

"I'm as much to blame as you are then, I'm in love with you, too. And that is no reason to send someone death threats." The mention of death threats made Megan cry even harder.

"Nick, I don't want to die. Not now. I love you so much and I want to spend my time here with you. I don't want to watch you from somewhere else."

"Babydoll, you aren't going anywhere. Not while I'm around. I'm going to stay right here with you. I'm not going anywhere and neither are you. I love you and I'm not going to let anything happen to you if I have anything to do with it. OK?"

"OK." She whispered. "Nick?"

"Yeah Sweety?"

"Can I stay in here tonight? I don't want to go back in there."

"Of course you can! I don't think I would be able to let you go back in there."

"What about BJ? Do you think it's safe for her to be in there by herself when she gets back?"

"Well, I don't think the person who wrote you this has a problem with BJ, but I think just to be safe she should sleep in the guest room."

"OK."

"I'll go write her a note and put it on the door so she knows not to sleep there. I'll be right back, OK?"

"OK." He got up from the bed and walked over to the desk across the room and wrote a note quickly. He then took some tape out of the top drawer and walked down the hall. Megan could see him the entire time.

She had taken the time to get under the covers of Nick's bed and get comfortable. By the time he came back, she was curled up in a ball.

Nick walked into the room and looked at her. "I can't believe that someone would do this."

"I can."

Nick walked over to the bed and sat next to her. "Why do you say that?"

She looked up at him. "Look at you. Blond hair, blue eyed, heart throb all across Europe, and soon to be one here too. Then look at me. The girl next door. Nothing special. I just happen to know more about you then you would care to have any of your fans know. And I also just happen to be in love with you."

"Meg, I don't want to hear you ever say anything like that again. You are very special to me. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. You are the one I want. Not some phyco bitch."

They sat in silence for a few minutes. "Nick?"

"Yeah,Meg?"

"Who ever left that note was in our room. Someone was in the house without us knowing it."

Nick thought for a second and realised that she was right. "Well, the alarm was off all day because we were here. And everyone was outside so if someone could get past the gate then they could have gotten into the house."

"I really don't like that thought."

Nick pulled her into his arms and laid back. "Neither do I, baby. But no one is going to hurt you OK?"

"I know."

"Try and sleep. You've had a rough night. Sleep and we can talk more about this in the morning."

"OK..." She closed her eyes and held onto him. He bagan humming, nothing in particular, knowing that it would clam her. It worked and she fell asleep in his arms, her head on his chest. He gently moved her so he could get up and get ready to bed.

After changing into his boxers and t-shirt, turning off the TV and turning out the light, he pulled back the covers next to Megan and got into the bed next to her. As soon as her had laid down, Megan regained the position she had fallen asleep in. Nick kissed her lightly on the top of the head and closed his eyes, wondering who it was that was sending his beloved Megan death threats.
