Chapter 12
The next day at school promised to be hell. Three out of four of my
classes,
AJ was in.
I had promised myself last night that I was going to
move
on and find someone else. Someone who was nothing like AJ, someone who
cared
for me, someone who didn't play with me feelings - I looked over at AJ
- someone
who isn't so gorgeous, someone who isn't so sweet, someone who
isn't my best
guy friend, someone who hasn't been there for me every minute
of my life except
now.
I sighed and dropped my head on to my desk. It was
hopeless.
I
was forever and eternally in love with AJ McLean.

"Get out of my seat," I said to Nick as he shoved his butt onto my chai
in
the cafeteria.
"What seat?" Nick asked. I rolled my eyes
and shoved him into the floor.
"Owww! Do you have to be so violent?"
he asked as he rubbed his butt. Jess
laughed at the two of us.
"Har,
Har, Har," Nick said sarcastically as he sat down in his chair. I
opened
up my lunch and pulled out my sandwich.
"Tuna again?" I groaned.
Nick grabbed it out of my hand and shoved a bite
into his mouth.
"Fishy...yet
tasty!" he said.
"Well, I hope you enjoy it!" I told him as
I grabbed the apple from his
lunch and took a bite.
"Hey E, did
you hear?" Jess asked me excitedly.
"No, what?" I asked as
I sipped my Coke.
"AJ dumped Ashley!"
"WHAT?"
I yelled as I spat my Coke all over the table.
"Nasty!" Nick said
as he backed up in his chair. I got up and went to grab
some napkins. Jess followed
me.
"For real?" I asked her as I pulled a ton of napkins out of
the dispenser.
"Yeah! No joke! No one can figure out why. I mean the
two of them said that
everything was going great and then apparently last night
he called her up
and told her he couldn't see her anymore, weird eh?" Jess
said using her
Canadian accent.
You could tell she was a Canadian, she
had always talked
like one since she moved here in grade 5.
"Totally.
I have no clue why he did...maybe he saw what a bitch she really
is," I
said with a smirk on my face.
"I guess so," Jess replied as we
made our way back over to the table. Nick
was sitting in his chair with his pack
of Twinkies and his Twix in his lap.
"I had to save them from the flood!"
he said sarcastically.
"Ha Ha Ha," I said as I threw a soggy napkin
at him. He yelled and then
threw it back at me.
After I cleaned up the
mess I packed up what was left
of my lunch, well what Nick hadn't eaten that
is and headed off for my
locker. I felt my butterfly's in my stomach as soon
as I saw who was there.
AJ. I casually walked over and began to open my locker.
"Hi..." AJ said quietly.
"Hi..." I said looking at the
floor. We exchanged looks and then went back
to our lockers.
I grabbed
my books and then headed off to math. I sat down
in my seat behind AJ. I didn't
know how I was going to make it through this
class. AJ in front of me, and Ashley
to my left. I bit my bottom lip and
hoped for the best.

I ran out of school as fast as I could. Math was something I wanted to
forget. Ashley has been shooting me daggers all class, AJ looked so cute
from
behind and Jess got moved to the front of the room so I was all on my
own.
As soon as I got home I threw on my swimsuit and headed into the back yard
for
a quick swim.
"Can I come swimming with you?" Davy called down
to me from his bedroom
window.
"Sure," I said. It's not like
I had anything else to do. He changed
quickly, stuck on his water wings and jumped
into the pool with me. We
floated around for a bit. Davy had his legs attached
to my waist, and his
arms wrapped around my neck. As much of a water baby as
he was, he still
couldn't swim.
"It's ok. Here, I'll hold you up
and you try to kick," I told him as I
rolled him over onto his stomach and
supported him. At first he didn't get
it, but within minutes Davy was swimming
around the pool with a pool noodle
keeping him afloat.
"I can swim
Lezlee!" he cried. I smiled at him.
"Hey, can you teach me to swim?"
I heard Nick call out as he came through
the back gate.
"I don't
think so Mr. Carter," I said rolling my eyes. Nick threw his
clothe into
one of the beach chairs and dove in with his Hawaiian swim
trunks on. Soon the
two of us were wrestling around in the water fighting
over who got to float around
on the water chair.
"Me!" yelled Nick as he threw me off of the
chair. I jumped on his back and
dunked him.
He pulled me under and we
both came up gasping for air.
"Nick, you're such a wimp," I heard
someone call. It was Brian.
Him and Jess walked through the gate and threw
there clothes on the chairs.
"Hey, we saw you from my bedroom window
so we figured it'd be okay to come
over," Jess told me.
"Ok,
when have you ever asked if it was ok if you came over?" I asked her.
She
pretended to think about it for a while and then said "Never," and dove
in.
It was great fun. We all swam and played Chicken for a while. It
was
Jess on Brian's shoulders and me on Nick's. Of course we won because Jess
and Brian were nearly a foot shorter than Nick and I.
"I gotta get
out!" Jess said as she looked at her hands which resembled
prunes.
Eventually
all of us climbed out and went and sat in the sauna by the
house.
"Hot...can't....breath,"
said Nick jokingly as he lay on the wooden bench.
"Ooh baby! You're
steaming this place up!" Brian said to Jess as he gave he
a kiss which turned
into a longer kiss than expected.
"This isn't the house of love!"
I said as I whipped Brian with my towel.
"Ouch! You interrupted our
love session," he said sarcastically. Brian and
Nick looked at each other
and said,
"West Coast, East Coast, we gonna have a
luv sesh tonight!"
and laughed. It was their little joke that they had
gotten off of Chris Rock's
tv show one night.
"You guys are so weird," Jess said as she moved
down to sit by me.
"That's what we pride ourselves on," Nick said
as he pounded his chest like
Tarzan. We all laughed and then Brian opened his
mouth to say something;
"So uh...E, I was talking to AJ and he said
he was sorry for what happened
last night and he wants to talk things over with
you."
"Yeah right," I said as I opened the door of the sauna.
It was absolutely
cooking inside.
"No, really. He's gonna drop by
tonight," he assured me. I raised my
eyebrow.
"He is,"
Jess said to me. I just looked down.
"Well, if he shows up then I guess
we can talk." I said.
"Ok, I think I'm well done!" Nick said
as he jumped up and ran out of the
sauna.
We all followed and burst into
laughter as we looked at each other.
We looked like human tomatoes. I don't think
I'd ever seen the four of us so
red. We dried off, changed and then the three
of them left as I went inside
to shower for tonight.
