Chapter 17
Over the next week after the night that AJ gave me back the ring, things
were
going great between us. It was like we were best friends again.
I had
forgotten
about our fights and we were getting along great. Even better than
before.
Ashley
still hadn't blackmailed me with that letter and surprisingly
Nick hadn't told
anyone about it either. School was great because now we
could talk without feeling
uncomfortable.
"Hey E!" AJ called down the hall to me.
"What?"
"Want to grab an ice cream cone?" he asked me
as he ran up to his locker.
"Sure, where?"
"Baskin's?"
he asked.
"Alright, how about after school?"
"Great,"
I'll meet you here then he said as he grabbed his social text,
slammed his locker
shut and ran off.
"Hey!" Jess said as she covered my eyes with
her hands. "Guess who?"
"Jess." I said as I pried her
hands off of my eyes.
"How'd you know?"
"Who else
has your voice you weirdo?"
"Uh...I dunno..."
"Man,
if you're gonna do that at least disguise your voice?"
"Like this?"
a deep voice asked as two hands covered my eyes again.
"Who is it?"
I asked.
"Do you like scary movies?" the voice asked. I knew it
was Nick trying to
be the psycho in Scream. He loved scary movies and quoted
them all the time.
"Nick, I know it's you,"
"Are you
sure it's Nick?" the voice asked again.
"Yes!" I said. I was
right. It was him just being a dork if you asked me.
"So anyone up for
a swim after school today?" asked Nick, "I really want to
try out my
new scuba gear."
"I can't, I'm getting ice cream with someone."
"Who?" asked Nick in a girly voice.
"None of your business,"
I replied back in the same voice he used.
"AJ huh?" Jess said opening
her big mouth.
"Jess!" I moaned.
"Lucky guess!"
she said.
"Ooh! Things heating up huh?"
"No Nick,
they aren't. We're just going as friends."
"Oh, well you never
know."
"Well you never know," I said mocking him. He hit me
with his book bag.
"Fine, then PJ do you want to go scuba diving tonight?"
"Sure," she replied.
"Kay, I'll meet you after school then
here." he said before he walked off.
"Well have fun with Carter,"
I said to Jess. She slapped her forehead.
"It's gonna be a looong night,"
she groaned. I laughed at her. She should
have known what swimming with Nick
meant. Major water wars.

"So what kind do you
want?" AJ asked me as he got up from the table to go
order our ice cream.
"I don't know."
"Well, I think I want a chocolate soda. But
I want more than a large so
will you share a super sized one with me?"
"Sure," I said. I wasn't in the mood for chocolate but I knew he couldn't
finish a super on his own. Those things were huge. After a few minutes AJ
came
back with the soda topped with whipped cream and two cups.
"Here we'll
pour in into this cup too," he offered.
"Why bother," I said
"We'll end up spilling it all over!" I said with a
laugh. He plunked
two straws in and took a big sip.
"This is good!" I said as I licked
a bit of whipped cream off my straw. AJ
laughed at me.
"What?"
I asked.
"You've got some...here.." he said as he moved in close
to me. And reached
to wipe some whipped cream off my nose.
"Oh thanks...I
uh..."
"Yeah..." he said as he stared in to my eyes. I had
a feeling we were going
to kiss and I knew if we did it would screw up everything.
But I wanted him
so badly. There we were, inches away from each other, ready
to kiss. I
quickly turned away. I didn't want to ruin what was happening now.
"Yeah, well, thanks!" I said trying to act like nothing had happened.
"No problem," AJ said as he leaned back into the booth beside me. We talked
for a while longer about school, life and the BSB. Things were going so
great
for them. I really wanted them to make it bigger than they already
had.
"Shit! I gotta go or my mom's gonna kill me!" I said as I looked at my
watch. I hadn't been home for dinner in a while and I promised I would be
home
tonight. We paid the bill and then headed out to AJ's car.
"Well, I'll
see you tomorrow," he said to me.
"Yep, thanks for the soda,"
I said and smiled at him.
"No problem....hey, are you going to around
later tonight?" he asked me.
"Yeah, Jess' stopping by for a bit
to work on Chem."
"Kay, well maybe I'll stop by and say hi. I have
something of yours too," I
gave him a puzzled look but said "okay."
"Well see you tonight," I said as I got out and shut the door of the car.
"See ya!" I ran inside, threw my stuff at the bottom of the stairs and
sat
down at the table. Just in time for dinner. As sat there and cut my chicken
I wondered what the heck it was that AJ was going to drop off...
