Chapter 3

I rolled over and hit my alarm clock with my fist.
"Stupid clock..." I groaned.
I couldn't believe it was 6:30 already. I had been
in a deep sleep dreaming about AJ and I.
We were alone in my room and he had come in
through the window and we were making out.

It was a nice dream, but then my alarm clock had to
wake me up. I shook my head trying to forget
about the dream and rolled out of bed.

I stumbled down the hall to the bathroom only to
find that the door was locked. "Let me in..." I mumbled.

"In a minute," Angie my younger, 13 year
old sister Angie called.

"Come on, I have to shower!" I yelled as
I pounded on the door.

"Lezlee, this isn't house where you bang on doors to
get people's attention" my dad said as he walked out
of his room, tying his tie.

"Yeah, this is a house where you kick the doors!" my
little 6 year old brother Davy yelled as he ran at the
door screaming like a ninja in his Power
ranger pyjamas.

"Oh no it's not!" my dad yelled as he scooped Davy up
over his shoulder and carried him down the stairs.

"Hurry up!" I yelled again to the closed door in front
of me.

"No I'm next!" Hannah, my 9 year old sister told me
as she came out of her room.

"I'm next. Go upstairs, go downstairs or go to
the main floor. You don't need this bathroom right
now!" I told her.

"You're so mean!" Hannah yelled as she stomped down
the stairs. Finally Angie came out of the bathroom, her
auburn hair bouncing on her shoulders.

"All yours your majesty!" she said with a smile
on her face.

"Scram!" I said as I stuck my tongue out at her. I
turned on the shower and let the coldwater
run over my body.

"Mom! Where's my lunch?" asked Lucas,
Hannah's twin, and my brother.

"Where it always is dear," she replied.

"Mommy! I can't find my shoe!" Davy wailed from the
top of the stairs.

"Angie, go help Davy," my mom requested as she
finished making my lunch for me.

"Hannah. Lucas, go get your shoes on, the bus is almost
going to be here," my father said as he stood by the
island in our kitchen directing traffic as usual.

Finally, all 5 Dawson kids were ready to go with me
leading them all to the bus stop. All 5 of us went to
Osgrove school. It was a elementary, jr. High and
high school in one.

"Lezlee, I wanna sit on your lap!" Davy
told me as I picked him up.

"All right," I said just as the bus pulled up.

I unfolded the note Ashley threw onto my desk
and read it.

Hey E! Sup? NHM. I'm bored out of my mind!
Dower-Coleman looks like she escaped from a
homicidal maniac institute. Say have you seen AJ
today? :)
Wb,
Ash

I looked at the note and felt my heart sink.
Ashley had the biggest crush on AJ and even though
I had never told her about my feelings for him,
I still felt that he was hers to like.
It was almost in a weird sort of way that he belonged
to me.

I folded the note up and stuck it into my bag and
scrawled a little note to Ash before Mrs. D.C. caught me.

I looked over at Jess who was sleeping on her desk
while Nick threw little pits of paper on top of her head
and in her hair.

9:22...how much more of this class could I take?

"Darlin , I can't explain, where did we lose our way?
Girl it's driving me insane," AJ sang the Boyz II Men
song as he opened his locker beside mine.

I tried not to concentrate on him because the more
I listened to him sing, the more I felt like I was
going to cry.
"Yo Baby!" Jess yelled at me as she ran over
and gave me a hug.

"Hey, how are you?" I asked my voice quivering.

"E, what's wrong?" Jessie whispered in my ear.

"Bathroom." I said as the two of us headed across
the hallway and into the bathroom.

"Oh Jess!" I wailed.

"What?" she asked me as she put her hands on my
shoulders and tossed my dark brown hair over
my shoulders.

"I just don't know how much longer I can hide it from
AJ that I like him," I whispered to her.

"You're strong, it'll be ok," Jessie replied just as the bell
rang warning us to get to class,
"We'll talk later?" she asked me.

I nodded and walked out of the bathroom and into social class.

All morning I couldn't concentrate.
I felt like everyone in the room knew that I liked
AJ and that they were all looking and smiling at me
like they thought it was funny. And it didn't help when Nick started harassing me.

"I know what you said last night. Mua ha ha!" Nick
whispered in my ear with an evil laugh trying to sound
like the psychopath in "I Know What You Did
Last Summer".

"Nick!" I said.

"Ms. Dawson...Mr. Carter, would you like to spend
some time with me after school?" Mr.Lowry asked us.

"No," we both replied and got back to listening to
Mr. Lowry give us the boring history of the civil war as
I doodled AJ and my initials in the margin of my
coiled notebook.
