Chapter 2
"Another sad day in the office Kasey?" I asked opening the door to
my office.
"Yep, Howie Dorough is coming early, in about an hour but
until
then you're clear," she said checking my schedule.
"Thanks
Kas," I said with a grin. "Hey how was the party last
night with you
and your boyfriend?"
"It was great, too bad you couldn't come there
were a lot of men there,"
she said as I smiled.
"Kasey at this
point I don't think I would be able to ever
see my man," I said with as
she laughed.
"That is a very good point," she said as I nodded.
I put down my
briefcase and propped my feet up on my desk. Today was going
to be a long day.
~*~*~*~
"V, Mr. Dorough is here to see you,"
Kasey said in the speakerphone.
"Send him in," I said getting up.
I looked through the bottom
drawer of my file cabinet as I heard the door open.
"Hello?"
He asked. His voice immediately grabbed my attention.
I grabbed a new folder
for Howie's case and shut the cabinet, getting up to
look at the most gorgeous
thing I'd ever seen.
His long black hair made my heart race, his eyes were
chocolate
brown cause me to get goosebumps, he was beautiful.
"Hi,"
he said with a smile that took my breath away.
"Um…hi," I said shaking
my head. "I'm going to question you for this case okay?"
"No
problem," he said sitting in the chair in front of my desk.
I took off
my jacket and opened a pen.
"Okay Mr. Dorough…"
"Howie,"
he interrupted. "Just Howie, Mr. Dorough makes
me quiver," he said
with a grin.
"Okay," I said with a small grin. I put the pen top
in my mouth to
draw attention to it, "When did it allegedly happen?"
"2
months ago in New York City," he said bluntly.
"How old is the so-called
victim?"
"I think 14," he said as I looked up at him.
"How
did you two meet?"
"She was backstage talking to the guys and I
when she asked me
to follow her to the bathroom. She tried to…kiss me but I
wouldn't
allow it, that's just wrong."
"Ha," I mumbled.
"Why
ha?"
"It's the typical thing for teenagers, can't get what they
want so they
get pissed and sue you," I said with a sigh. "I'll do
this case, seems pretty
simple to me."
"Thank you…um…what's
your name?"
"You mean I'm your lawyer and you don't know my name?"
I said with a smile.
"Well Lou told me some big shot lawyer was going
to help."
"That's me!" I said with a laugh, "My name
is Veronica, Veronica
Keelson," I said extending out my hand.
"Howie
as you know already," he said shaking my hand softly.
"My niece
loves you to death," I said with a grin.
"Oh really? That's nice
to know, at least you don't hate me."
"Why would I? I don't know
you," I said with a shrug.
'But I definitely want to,' I thought to myself.
"You
should," he said flirting.
"Hmm, I might take you up on that one
day," I said getting
up. "Hold on, I have papers for you to sign."
"Sure,"
he said watching me leave. I walked over to Kasey
with a grin that hurt it was
go big.
"What V?" She asked putting down her book.
"He's
so hot," I whispered.
"Oh I know! He asked how old you were too,"
she said as
I giggled like a schoolgirl.
"Really?" I asked
giddy.
"Yeah!"
"I gotta go, wish me luck!" I said
walking back into my
office. "Here ya go, need something to bare down on?"
"Mmm
hmm," he said looking at the forms.
"You can sit at my desk if you
need to, I have to go fax some things
and I'll be back in a sec," I said
as he got up. As I turned around to
face him, he was right in front of me.
"You
scared me," I said as my heart pounded.
"I'm sorry," he said.
Our faces were so close I could feel his
sweet breath on my face.
"It's
okay," I said walking over to the file cabinet. I took out a file
and looked
at Howie in the corner of my eye, realizing he was looking right at
me with a
grin on his face. I shut the drawer and walked over to the
fax machine aside
my desk.
"So how long have you been a lawyer?" Howie asked.
"Um…about
3 and a half years, most other lawyers are jealous that I'm so
good at the beginning
of my career," I said with a shrug. "I think it's stupid."
"That
must be tough though at your age," he said as I sighed.
"It is,
I mean I basically…" I turned around and looked at him. "Nevermind."
"What?"
He asked curiously.
"This can't get as personal as I was telling you,
this is a lawyer/client
relationship."
"Can't even…"
"Can't
anything," I interrupted. "I'm sorry it's just for the better that way."
"No
problem, I understand. You're just doing your job," he said as I
nodded.
He was so caring and understanding, I couldn't help but have
an even larger
crush on that man.
"Okay truthfully, I have no life, this stupid job
is all I have other
than my cat!" I said as he grinned.
"Changed
your mind?" He asked.
"Yeah…I guess I did," I said with a
laugh.
"And why is that?" He asked.
"You know? I really
don't know…" I said as we both grinned at
each other.
"Well
why don't you go out with me and the guys
tonight?" He asked as I shrugged.
"I
don't know, it seems to personal."
"We're going to dance clubs,
come on you need to have
some fun," he said as I sighed.
"Nothing's
going to happen right?" I asked.
"Of course not! I just want my
lawyer to be in good
spirits," he said as I laughed.
"Okay,
I guess so, where?"
"I'll pick you up," he said with a grin.
~*~*~*~
I
looked at myself in the mirror for the millionth time, hoping what
I was wearing
looked good for a dance club. I hadn't been to one since my
teens, and I had
totally forgotten what it was like.
I was wearing a baby blue strapless halter-top
and a baby blue
mini-skirt. I had my hair down around my face and my platforms
on that
made me look kinda tall. I heard the doorbell ring as I put on my lipstick.
I pet my cat and ran to the door. I unlocked the door and opened it to
see
Howie looking absolutely gorgeous.
"Hi," I said with a grin.
"Wow
you look nice," he said with a smile. "Shall we go Ms. Keelson?"
"Just
Victoria, Ms. Keelson sounds way to weird," I said with a
laugh. He took
my hand and led me to a car filled with 5 people in it.
"Victoria, this
is Kevin, Nick, A.J. and his girlfriend Wendy, and
Brian, guys this is my lawyer
Victoria," Howie said as I shook their hands.
"You guys are very
talented," I said getting in aside Howie and Nick.
"Thanks, we try!"
Brian said as I grinned. I looked down and realized
Howie's hand was still
locked with mine. I pretended I didn't know
as I grinned with happiness.
~*~*~*~
"Can
you dance?" Howie yelled over the music.
"A little!" I yelled.
"Wanna
sit for a while?" He asked.
"Yeah!" He took my hand and led
me to the bar. We sat down as the
bartender came over to us.
"What
can I get you two?"
"Vodka on the rocks," I said as Howie looked
at me.
"What?" I asked as we laughed.
"I'll take the
same," he said as the bartender nodded
and walked away.
"You're
a heavy drinker!" He said as I grinned.
"I live on this stuff,"
I said with a laugh.
~*~*~*~
After hours of talking, we danced, and
drank, and had so much fun.
Every second I spent with Howie the more I wanted
him more and more.
"Mind if we go home?" Howie asked Nick and the
guys.
"Why we just got here!" Nick whined.
"Victoria
has to work you guys, we're catching a cab," Howie said taking
my hand as
we walked out.
"Thanks for getting me out of there, I have a early meeting
with a client," I explained as he shrugged.
"It's okay, you
should have told me sooner and we would have
gotten out of there faster than
we did," he said as we got into a taxi.
"I appreciate you taking
me," I said as he grinned.
"I'm glad you came," he said as
I looked out the window.
I knew this was going to be complicated, I had feelings…strong
feelings for him and
he's also my client faced with a life-threatening case.
I didn't know what to do.
When we got to my house, I invited Howie in a he
happily excepted.
We ran through the rain into my house.
"Oh my
gosh we're soaked!" I said with a smile.
"Yeah," Howie said
with a sneeze.
"Oh gosh, let me take your clothes, I'll give you a robe
or something,
you're going to catch pneumonia in that!" I said running
to my bathroom,
I took out a guest robe and handed it to him.
"You
don't have to…"
"I have to," I interrupted.
"Thanks,"
he said shutting the bathroom door. I walked over to my
dresser and pulled out
a tank top and shorts. I changed quickly and started
brushing my hair when Howie
came out, my mouth almost drooling at the site of
his beautiful muscular body.
"Hand
me your stuff," I managed. He passed me his clothes as I walked to
my laundry
room and put his clothes in the dryer. "There, want something to
drink?"
I asked walking back into my bedroom.
"No thanks, who's this little
guy?" He asked picking Whiskers up.
"This is Whiskers," I
said petting his head.
"He looks old," Howie said as I nodded.
"I
got him for graduation of high school," I said remembering when I saw him
and
jumping for joy.
"This is my kinda cat," he said as I laughed.
Howie set Whiskers
down and looked in my eyes.
"I had fun tonight,"
he said as I nodded.
"Me too," I said as he brushed he hand across
my cheek.
I closed my eyes as he brushed down my body. He stopped as I
opened
my eyes, his hand brushed through my blonde hair as we looked at each
other. He stopped as I looked down, I knew it was wrong, believe me I did,
but
I did it. As he walked away I grabbed him and kissed him
passionately, as our
tongues pushed into each other's mouths our kisses
became more sexy, more wanted.
He brushed my straps of my shirt down as
I brushed the robe down, revealing
his hot body.
He kissed down my neck as I brushed my fingers on his back,
closing my eyes, wanting so much more. He took my shirt off making sure
he
kissed every part of my upper body. I kissed his chest and kissed him
passionately
as he carried me easily to my bed.
He kissed my neck as I got lost in his
touch. I never even realized
what I was doing to my career, but I was in love
with his body, his heart,
his soul, everything with him…I admired and adored.
He
stopped before we did anything, he looked into my eyes as I
did he, his brushed
the hair out of my eyes as I grinned.
"I know we just met but I think
I'm falling in love with you," he whispered
as I giggled nervously. "What?"
"I
think I am too," I said in tears. He kissed my tears and
brushed them away.
He kissed me and grinned.
"You don't know how glad I am to hear that,"
he said as I smiled.
