Chapter 15
Leslie's Night...
I paced back and forth with my coffee cup in
hand waiting for Ashley and Wendy to come back,
or call, anything!
I
hate it when Wendy and Ashley do stuff like this;
I never calm down till they
tell me about it.
The phone rang loudly from the table from where I
put
it.
I ran to it and answered acting calm.
"Hello?"
"Hey
Les, It's Brian," Brian said slowly. My heart pounded
as I sat down thinking
of what happened
the last time we talked.
"Hey Brian. I saw you guys,
you did real good,"
I said grabbing the remote off the table.
"Thanks,
I appreciate that," he said. I knew he was
smiling, I could tell by his
voice. I pressed play on the
muted t.v. and watched the concert again,
looking
at my Brian.
"It's the truth," I said drinking a sip of my coffee
and placing it back on the coffee table.
"Les, can I ask you something?"
"I don't know, what is it?"
"Why did you hang up on
me before?" My heart
pounded, it felt like it was going to blow
out
of my chest.
"I…I...don't...k...know," I said stuttering.
I
hated it when I got nervous!
"I don't want you to start stuttering again.
How about
we go get some coffee? I know how
much you like coffee."
"Uh…sure!
You're going to have to come pick
me up, I don't have a car," I sighed
rubbing
my temples.
"I'll come get you and we'll go from there okay? Be there
in a few." I hung up the phone and
went to the bathroom.
I looked
in the mirror and groaned, "I really
need to work on this," I said
out loud.
Once Brian arrived, I was ready. I opened the door
as he came
in, the whole apartment lighted up when
he stepped in the room. "Hey B,"
I said as
he hugged me, my knees feeling weak.
"You look nice,"
he said smiling. I was wearing a
flowered spaghetti-strap dress that
came
down to my ankles.
"You too!" I said smiling. He wore a blue
Kentucky
hat, a pair on Jencos
and a white loose Nike shirt.
"Oh yeah! Come
on, let's go." He said
taking my hand as we went to his Jeep.
He
opened the door for me and ran to the other side.
"And we're off!"
He smiled as he turned
on the car and sped off. "Isn't your birthday soon?"
"Yep,
next Friday," I said smiling.
"Wow, a week huh? Are you siked?"
He asked me
as he turned left at the traffic light.
"Of course why
wouldn't I be? I'll be 18!" I
said laughing a little.
"I remember
when I was 18, I graduated high school
and moved to Florida with the guys
getting
my first apartment with Howie and Kevin."
"Wow, sounds kinda like
me. I moved here, to Florida,
and I got my first apartment with Ashley and Wendy.
But I don't think we'll be starting a
band soon or anything like that."
"It
does sound like you doesn't it?"
He looked at me as we parked at the diner.
"For
the most part." I said as we got out of the Jeep.
We got inside and sat
down at the end of the bar.
We ordered 2 coffees and I got a bagel
with cream
cheese on it. Hey, I was hungry!
"Here's your food, enjoy it," the
old women said as she
gave us our coffees and me my bagel.
We thanked her
as she walked away.
Brian and I talked for at least 2 hours about things
in our lives, trying not to get back to the
I love you subject.
"What
time is it?" I asked him as
I took the last bite of my bagel.
"2
in the morning. Hey wait, you have a little cream
cheese right here," he
said as he brushed his
soft, gentle fingers across my cheek.
"Thanks,"
I said as we looked into each other's eyes. I
swear we were like a millimeter
apart when
the old lady came over to us.
"Here's your change, come
again," she
handed Brian's his money as we got up.
"Thanks,"
Brian said as he took my hand.
"Don't mention it, just come back,"
she said smiling.
Brian and I got into the Jeep as he drove me home.
Or
so I thought.
"Where are we going?" I asked curiously.
"You'll
see," he sighed as we turned another corner. He
stopped at a field. He looked
at me and
got out of the car opening my door.
He took my hand as we walked
through the tall grass.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked with
a slight
grin on my face.
"Right here," he said as he showed
me. It was a
beautiful creek, 2 deer were drinking from it.
"They're
so beautiful," I said looking at them.
"Actually I didn't know they
were going to
be here I just took you here," Brian said as
we laughed.
It scared the deer away as I took my sandals off
throwing them near the
Jeep.
I ran into the water and laughed as I splashed it at
Brian. I couldn't
believe I was doing this at
2 in the morning!
Luckily Brian left his
headlights on so I could see
him a little.
"Hey what are you doing?"
He asked as he lifted me up.
He let me go after punching him in the chest
long
enough. "You got an arm, Ow!" He
said rubbing his chest.
"I'm
sorry, poor baby," I said laughing.
I laid in the tall grass, it was
so beautiful in
the sky, you could see every star.
Even if I didn't know
every constellation.
He laid down next to me, looking up as well. I sighed
and asked; "Do you know any of these
other then the Big and Little Dipper?"
I asked as he laughed.
"Yeah I do. I have a favorite star too,"
he said still
laughing a little.
"Which one?" I asked as he
pointed.
"I don't know the name, but it's my star,
I'll name it someday.
I look at it
whenever I need to think."
"Cool. I just lay on
my bed and think,"
we laughed as he sat up looking at me.
"Most
people do but I have a different,
strange technique."
"That's
true, I don't know anybody else who has
that thinking spot," I said smiling.
His eyes shinned with the sky making them
light up.
He looked at
his watch jumping up.
"Wow it's 4 in the morning, I have a photo
shoot
at 10." He helped me up as we
walked to the Jeep.
"Are photo
shoots fun?" I asked kinda
curious. I got my sandals off the ground.
"Not
all the time, but sometimes," he said as we got
into the car. When we got
to my apartment,
he walked me to the door. It felt awkward, it really did.
"I
had fun, thanks for showing me that," I said smiling.
"I had fun
too, we should do it again," he said
nodding. He hugged me and kissed
my
cheek lightly as I opened the door.
"Bye Brian, call me okay?" I
said as he
started walking away.
"Of course."
That night
just made me love him even more
than I did before. I laid in my bed and thought
of him.
'Maybe I shouldn't be around him anymore, that way
I won't love
him as much or not at all.
That was it, that's what I had to do.'
I took
the phone and dialed his home number since
I knew it would take him a while to
get there and I knew he wasn't there yet.
"Brian? Hey it's Leslie.
I have been thinking it over
a lot, and maybe…maybe…I don't think we should
see
or talk to each other anymore. I think it would be
best for me if I didn't see
or hear from you. Might be
good for you too. I did have fun with you, I
always
did, and I'll miss you more than you know.
Bye Brian." I hung up as I put
the phone down
and grabbed my pillow. I knew it was for the best,
but my
heart didn't…
