Chapter 4
Jessie went inside her uncle's bookstore and sighed at her
tiring day.
"Frank
do you need any help today?" She asked.
"Um…not right now, but
if I need any I'll call you okay?"
He said patting her shoulder.
"Sure,"
she said going over to the new release section.

"Here
we are boys, that's…68.90," the cab driver said.
"Thanks,"
Brian said as Nick paid him. They got out of
the car and walked into the bookstore.
"There
she is over there!" Nick said quietly.
"I'm going over there, I'll
be gone in five minutes, with
or without you," Brian said walking over to
the café.
Nick sighed in nervousness and smiled as he walked over to her
sitting
in the recliner.
"Have we met before?" He said sitting on the floor
in front of her.
"You just never quit do you?" She asked closing
the
book to show her glasses.
"You wear reading glasses?"
"So?"
"Oh
there's nothing wrong with that, I was just
asking," he said as she took
them off.
"How can I help you?" She asked.
"Go out
with me," he said with a smirk.
"As like a date? No thanks,"
she said getting
up and putting the book back.
"Why?"
"Because
you're a Backstreet Boy and I'm a New Yorker,
too much difference in that. Besides,
I don't like you,"
she said lying through her teeth.
"Oh you
don't?" He said rolling his eyes.
"No…I don't," she said rolling
her eyes in the same manner.
"Jess! I need your help," Frank said.
"Excuse
me, work calls," she said walking over to Frank.
"Sure what's up?"
She said as he handed her a stack of books.
"Put these on the shelves
please, I'm short handed today on
employees," he said as she walked over
to the first section.
"Need help?" Nick asked.
"You
don't know where they go," she said putting the book
on the shelf.
"Just
trying to be polite," he said following her to the next section.
"Oh
my God it's Nick Carter!" Girls screamed as Jessie laughed.
"Have
fun," she said as girls surrounded him.
"I will get you Jessie!"
Nick said as he started
signing autographs.

"Anything
else Frank?" Jessie asked after finishing putting up the books.
"Do
you think you could go pick up my sandwich
from Jerry's deli?" He asked
hoping.
"Yeah okay, be back in a little bit," she said patting his
shoulder
before leaving. She noticed Nick looking at her and
running after
her.
"Hey Jessie! Where ya going?" He asked walking beside her.
"Out,"
she said stopping at the end of the street.
"Are you getting food? I
love food," he said smiling.
"I guess that's your dog instinct kicking
in," she said as
he laughed.
"You're good at the insult thing,"
he said as the
don't walk sign turned to walk.
"Can I ask you something?"
She said as they
walked into the deli.
"Of course!" He said
as she walked over to the food line.
"Why do you like me even though
I don't like you,
I insult you, and I live on the other side of the world than
you do?"
"Good question…go out with me first and
I'll tell
you," he said as she rolled her eyes.
"You're driving me crazy!"
She said as he smiled.
"In a good way though right?"
"If
that's what you want to believe then yes
in a good way," she said with a
smile.
"I've never seen you smile, you have a beautiful
smile. Why
don't you smile more often?" He
asked curiously.
"I do, on
a good day," she said as the line moved.
"You're not having a good
day?"
"Maybe," she said flirting.
As she got up to
the counter Nick jumped up and down
inside, she was finally lighting up. He
decided to sit down
and wait for her, whatever she was ordering he could eat
it.
'I'll eat anything,' he said to himself laughing.
"Okay, I'm
ready to go!" She said with a large bag.
"You're not eating it
now?" He asked following her outside.
"Oh it's not for me, it's
for Frank," she said stopping at the end
of the street.
"Is
that your boss?"
"Yeah, but he's also my landlord and my uncle,"
she said
walking as soon as the lights changed.
"Man, I was hungry
too!" He said sighing.
"Didn't you eat like half an hour ago?"
She said rolling
her eyes.
"Well yeah…but that never stops me from
eating
believe me," he said with a huge grin on his face.
"And
it definitely doesn't show," she said looking at his stomach.
"I'm
not fat!" He said as they walked into the bookstore.
"Here Frank,
you owe me 12.50," she said as he got
out his wallet.
"Here,
who are you?" Frank asked pointing to Nick.
"Oh this is Nick, he's
a Backstreet Boy ya
know," she said winking as they both chuckled.
"Oh
my daughter loves you guys! Let me go
get her," he said walking up the
stairs.
"She's 4," Jessie said as Nick nodded.
"Hi!"
She said running to him.
"Hi, what's your name?" He asked picking
her up.
"Kelly, I love you," she said as he kissed her cheek
and
let her go.
"Kelly sweetie? Nick and I have to go, he'll be
back
though okay?" Jessie said hugging her cousin.
"Okay J! Are you
guys getting married?"
She asked as Nick and Jessie looked at each other.
"No
sweetie, why don't you go play with Jason?" She said
as Kelly nodded.
She ran upstairs. "Sorry about that."
"Oh it's definitely
okay, at least she hasn't tried to grab my
ass," he said as Jessie busted
out laughing which
caused people to stare.
"Sorry!" She whispered.
"Jess,
why don't you take Nick to your apartment?" Frank
said as she nervously
took him upstairs. Guys that saw Jason
were typical, one date and they were
gone.
She actually liked him…kinda.
"Um…" she said getting
very serious. "I don't want you to
run off when you see this okay?"
She said opening the door.
Kelly and a little boy were sitting on the floor
playing with toys.
"Jason come here!" Jessie said as Jason started
crawling over to her. She lifted him up and kissed his cheek.
"Nick,
this is my son Jason, Jason, this is Nick, THE Nick,"
she said smiling.
Nick stood there in shock;
the little boy looked at least 2 years old.
"I
knew you would do this," she said sighing and putting
Jason down on the
rug with his plastic toy trucks.
"Do…do what?" He said breaking
his trance.
"You don't want to go out with me now do you? I
should
have told you in the beginning," she said lighting up a cigarette.
"No…no
it's okay really. He's an adorable little boy,"
Nick said looking at him.
He had a small bit of blonde hair,
beautiful blue eyes, and cute chubby legs
and cheeks.
"If it makes you feel better his father is dead," she
said as
Nick looked at her.
"Why would that make me feel better?"
"I
don't know! Why are you acting so weird now?" She said
with anger and
sadness in her voice.
"I don't know what you're talking about!"
He said getting louder.
"Look if you can't handle dating a 18 year old
with a son then
just…get out!" She screamed as Jason started to cry.
"Oh
God, I'm sorry Jason," she said picking him up.
"Meet me downstairs
at 7:30," Nick said with confidence in his voice.
He shut the door as he
heard Jason calming down. He was going
to have to face it; his love had a kid.
'Big deal!' Nick thought
to himself. He was determined to not let it get in
the way.
