Hi Woody

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 8:55:55 PM)
hi jacquie

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 8:56:05 PM)
So what is the topic for tonight?

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 8:56:11 PM)
Hi Woody..Hi Jacquie..

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 8:56:19 PM)
hi TAMMY

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 8:56:44 PM)
I DON'Y KNOW SHE DIDN'T TELL ME

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 8:56:57 PM)
You are just supposed to keep us in line?

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 8:57:25 PM)
WELL I'LL TRY

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 8:57:47 PM)
O.K.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 8:57:56 PM)
according to the email msg i received, it's just an open chat...vent, discuss, whatever...

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 8:58:13 PM)
Do you find your child's capd causes stress between you and your spouse?

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 8:58:43 PM)
JUST DON'T US ANY BAD WORD THEN THINGS WILL BE FINE

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 8:58:54 PM)
O.K. no bad words

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 8:59:05 PM)
NO

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 8:59:26 PM)
Woody, is that your answer, or your wifes?

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 8:59:46 PM)
all the time...he says I'm babying CJ and letting him get away with too much...but he is really hard on CJ...he doesn't seem to expect as much out of our five year old.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:00:40 PM)
woody, how do you handle sarah's capd?

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:00:47 PM)
We have often had differences about the best way to handle our sons LD

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:00:49 PM)
THE STRESS IS WHEN I DON'T HAVE THE SLIGHTES IDEA WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT AT FIRST,

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:00:56 PM)
(This user has entered CAPD: From the Heart)

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:01:02 PM)
hi ry

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:01:04 PM)
Hi ry

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:01:10 PM)
WELCOME RY

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:01:37 PM)
Woody, is it becuase she doesn't explain, or because you weren't aware of a new problem?

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:02:18 PM)
the wait i handle Sarah is to ask debbie what is happening, but mostly i try to help ker as much as possible

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:02:30 PM)
My husband says he counts on me to keep tabs on what is happening with our son

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:02:49 PM)
it was this was new to us

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:03:06 PM)
Tammy and ry, what about you?

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:03:31 PM)
not sure what the question is, can you explain

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:03:31 PM)
i try to explain to clif what's going on with CJ...what i've found and read on the internet...sometimes he acts like he's interested and sometimes he acts like he ignores me..i think he's just so overwhelmed...he usually leaves it all up to me.

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:03:57 PM)
how old is he?

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:04:07 PM)
ry, we are talking about stress between spouses re: child's capd

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:04:33 PM)
i should probably qualify that last statement...it's not that clif doesn't care...he just doesn't know what to do.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:04:33 PM)
debbie has done all the work on finding out what was happening, fighting the school boards, meeting with the teachers. but i try to support her as much as possible, learning what i can, like helping her with the chat room

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:04:45 PM)
sorry, I now understand (OOPS)

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:04:53 PM)
sometimes I can't really explain to my husband. I just kind of "know" something is wrong.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:05:28 PM)
I wish I also "knew" the solutions

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:06:05 PM)
when you know something is wrong that is when you need to show how you know that something is wrong

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:06:16 PM)
the problem is I don't know what the "solution" is---I REALLY WISH I DID!!!

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:06:27 PM)
yup

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:06:40 PM)
but how do you explain a gut feeling...

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:06:50 PM)
sometimes I just ask my husband to trust me that things are wrong

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:07:14 PM)
the solution is to talk to people on how they handle things

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:07:42 PM)
It seems as if there aren't very many people who are in the same situation

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:08:00 PM)
there must be

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:08:04 PM)
but,,,,now I have found this chat board and mail list, so that helps

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:08:18 PM)
ry, do you have a child with capd

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:08:22 PM)
i used to feel that way too....until i found this site...now i know there are others out there who are suffering too.

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:08:34 PM)
your doing a great job. Don't be so hard on yourself

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:08:45 PM)
thanks ry

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:08:55 PM)
yes, a 6 yr old girl

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:09:03 PM)
when was she diagnosed

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:09:18 PM)
this month

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:09:18 PM)
there are lot more than you think, they just don't know it and don't want to admitt to it.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:09:27 PM)
it's hard not to be hard on yourself when it takes so long to get a diagnosis and then no one, including our pediatrician, has ever heard of the problem.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:09:43 PM)
tammy, WOW do I agree with that

ry (ID=36) (Apr 25, 2000 9:09:50 PM)
i know what you mean

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:10:05 PM)
I have almost decided that the more I know, the less I know

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:10:13 PM)
i keep thinking that if only i had insisted on something sooner maybe he wouldn't be so far behind now.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:10:24 PM)
Tammy, how old is he

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:11:08 PM)
thats when you start getting all the information that you can

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:11:22 PM)
CJ is seven, he'll be eight in october. he was diagnosed in January 2000 but I "knew" something was wrong with his "hearing" since he was about 18 months old.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:11:46 PM)
Tammy, they don't diagnose capd until about 7

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:11:58 PM)
so there wasn't much you COULD do.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:12:38 PM)
take it to all your meeting, so when they don't know what you are talking about, you can give them the info

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:13:10 PM)
sarah was diagnose when she was 5 years old

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:13:35 PM)
I recently found out something interesting re: my son's capd

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:13:51 PM)
i've got the package all ready...labeled, outlined, with every dr's report and some reference material too...now i'm just waiting on the school to set up a meeting.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:14:02 PM)
what did you find out?

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:14:20 PM)
I used to "trust" the experts, but..

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:14:35 PM)
now I realize I should have listened more to my son.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:14:44 PM)
what do you mean?

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:14:52 PM)
He used to say "my stomach hurts when I read"

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:15:01 PM)
I thought he was trying to get out of school

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:15:22 PM)
stress...with CJ it's his head or he has a stomach ache.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:15:24 PM)
if wait fir the school they will hope you will go away, so you need to call every week to remind them you are waiting for your meeting

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:15:41 PM)
but now I found out that reading caused a chemical reaction in his body that really does make him sick.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:16:23 PM)
We will get back to that later, but how long have you been waiting for the meeting.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:16:28 PM)
how is that possible???

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:16:35 PM)
i've called his guidance counselor, the school psychologist, even the special education department of the school board, they all tell me the next meeting for his school isn't until may.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:16:43 PM)
bunk

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:16:58 PM)
by law they have to meed with you within a certain time period.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:17:10 PM)
are they public or private?

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:17:28 PM)
public schools could lose funding if they don't meet with you on time.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:17:40 PM)
each school zone is different along with the state laws

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:17:41 PM)
can you quote me the law...i've been looking everywhere for a reference to take to them but can't find anything. they are public.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:18:03 PM)
Woody, is that info on the web site?

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:18:20 PM)
tammy which state are you from

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:18:48 PM)
florida, in jacksonville. debbie and i had lunch one day a couple of months ago.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:19:18 PM)
oookkkkkkkkk

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:19:29 PM)

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:20:00 PM)

hi jacquie, tammy, woody

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:20:22 PM)
Once a quarter?!!

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:20:30 PM)
it figures...by then, the school year will be over.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:20:44 PM)
schoolboard are to meet once a quarter

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:20:50 PM)
don't give up, get things in place for next year.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:21:11 PM)
can you ask for a specific teacher?

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:21:27 PM)
heck no tell you want a meeting before this school year is over

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:21:40 PM)
they want to keep him back this year...and he is struggling...but his selfesteem is so low already...another blow would really set him back...i don't know what to do...

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:21:40 PM)
woody is right.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:22:05 PM)
you can try, if she has room in her room for that person

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:22:07 PM)
hi techsys

techsys (ID=38) (Apr 25, 2000 9:22:21 PM)
hello, just checking something, dont let me disturb y'all

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:22:30 PM)
I have never heard of any one say that holding a child back helped.

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:22:31 PM)
i will bee right back... gotta get kids in bed

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:22:39 PM)
if you do it before the school year is out also

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:22:51 PM)
We held our son back. No benefit.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:23:19 PM)
Summer tutors helped.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:23:29 PM)
no one in his school even seems to know what he has. his teacher even says holding him back will probably not help him but he isn't "up to standards" to be promoted.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:23:52 PM)
when they hold a person back then that person get bored quickly cause they done everything already from last year

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:24:02 PM)
amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:24:39 PM)
Tammy, what are you going to do?

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:26:24 PM)
yes tutoring might help if they know what the problem is so they can work on it

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:26:30 PM)
CJ is in a private after-school tutoring program and has an fm system he uses at school. both seem to have helped quite a bit. i'm also considering summer school for him as he seems to do better with continuity instead of the big break...i really don't want to hold him back as i don't think it will do him any good and it will further degrade his self esteem.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:26:59 PM)
Tammy, it will probably hurt more than help

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:27:19 PM)
I think the summer program is a better way to go (just an opinion)

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:27:56 PM)
it will degrade his self esteem and kids willmake fun of him

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:28:05 PM)
I'll bet you are really frustrated right now.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:28:07 PM)
that's what i thought. i don't want to give him a chance to forget what he has learned this year.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:28:39 PM)
being so close to the end of school it will be a hard decision to make

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:28:56 PM)
my biggest frustration is with the school board...it's like they don't want to help him.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:29:12 PM)
They don't know HOW to help him.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:29:39 PM)
that's cause they don't know how to handle the problem properly

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:29:48 PM)
I quit working with the school boards, too big of a dragon, now I work with individual teachers - much more effective

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:29:54 PM)
i'm willing to tell them everything i know (little though it is) if they would just try to do something for him._

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:30:15 PM)
you know that saying"better to ask for forgiveness than permision."

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:30:19 PM)
they just want you to go away quietly

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:30:23 PM)
It works well with schools.

faith (ID=40) (Apr 25, 2000 9:30:39 PM)
(This user has entered CAPD: From the Heart)

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:30:46 PM)
i have no intention of "going away quietly"...they are talking about my son!

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:30:52 PM)
hi faith

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:30:53 PM)
hi faith

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:31:04 PM)
If a teacher and I can agree to try something without the school officials getting involved it always works better and faster.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:31:07 PM)
Hi faith

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:31:23 PM)
that what deb did, she became a thorn in their side

faith (ID=40) (Apr 25, 2000 9:31:37 PM)
hi everyone

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:31:42 PM)
that's part of the problem...i've talked to CJ's teacher several times and she is just not willing to do much for him at all.

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:31:44 PM)
Oh, I've been a thorn

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:31:58 PM)
Well then, what about the principal?

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:32:13 PM)
i've talked to the principal too...she's worse than the teacher...

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:32:19 PM)
she but the teacher has to watch what they do, they don't want to get fired

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:32:20 PM)
OoooooKkkkkkkk

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:32:54 PM)
Well, since it is a public school what about going to the local board of education.

Tammy (ID=35) (Apr 25, 2000 9:33:24 PM)
i'm considering placing CJ in a magnet program (voluntary busing). it's a computer based program, more visual aides and computer programs. i thought that might help him.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:33:41 PM)
beat on that door until they let you in

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:33:48 PM)
Do they have resource help at the magnet school?

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:34:34 PM)
Can you meet with the magnet school and tell them what cj needs before making your decision?

Jacquie (ID=34) (Apr 25, 2000 9:34:52 PM)
They knew what capd was? Wow!

is there a scheduled chat tonight?

ry (ID=44) (Apr 25, 2000 9:42:07 PM)
does anyone have a capd child using an fm system?

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:42:20 PM)
rose: oh, yes, parental involvment is sooo important (really)! but when you've got 4 kids, and they ALL need parental involvement, it sure gets hectic around here!!

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:42:20 PM)
yes

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:42:31 PM)
ry: i use an fm system myself, but my kids don't as yet.

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 9:42:32 PM)
just a parent chat, time for us to talk to each other, by the way Hello Woody ! Tell debbie I said hello!

ry (ID=44) (Apr 25, 2000 9:42:52 PM)

see i'm the lost one here

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:43:02 PM)
i could not live without my FM :-)

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 9:43:40 PM)
I know that, i think teachers forget many of us hgave more than one child and the kids also have activities they participate in. life isn't all about schoolwork

ry (ID=44) (Apr 25, 2000 9:43:41 PM)
my six year old is like a new child, she is so much more confident with it

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:43:42 PM)
i think it has help her alot also it has help other kids get one

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:43:43 PM)
ry: seriously. i take my FM gear with me to virtually every public function i'm involved in. just got in from a camp fire meeting (i'm a leader) and just put away my FM a minute ago

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:43:50 PM)
ry: that is great!

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:44:05 PM)

well, anybody got any audiology or technology questions? i'll answer them if i can

kmanbam (ID=41) (Apr 25, 2000 9:50:30 PM)
I have a question. what cse classification does a child with capd recieve and are most schools receptive to providing accomodations?

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 9:50:54 PM)
Marge can you explain exactly how an FM sustem works?

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:53:33 PM)
kman: hmm, i can't help with that one

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:53:34 PM)
fm systems work like have a hearing aid, the teacher has the mike and the student has the headphone on so there is no outside distractions

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:53:38 PM)
rose: yes, i can explain

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 9:54:07 PM)
i tried

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:54:21 PM)
woody: ya gave it a good shot, smile

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 9:54:36 PM)
okay then marge if you use an FM system everywhere you go who gets the microphone?

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:55:06 PM)
rose: I have an "environmental" mic input on my FM receiver. That's what I use to help cut crowd noise

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:55:34 PM)
rose: i can use my own body as a baffle to cut background noise. can make a critical difference.

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:55:53 PM)
rose: i also use the FM portion when I'm out & about... chiefly at church and in restaurants

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:56:20 PM)
at church, we have a transmitter wired into the sound board, so i only need to bring my receiver (our church has extra receivers to loan out)

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 9:56:26 PM)
can you explain what environmental mic means and how you cut background noise

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:56:50 PM)
in a restaurant, i put a stubby mic on the transmitter and prop it up in the salt & pepper shakers. acts like a conference mic

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:57:27 PM)
rose: the enviro mic is a separate input from the fm part of the system... my receiver is like a 2-channel mixer board... i can choose how much input i want from the mic, how much from the fm

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 9:58:42 PM)
rose: i put a stubby mic on the enviro input, and cut off the FM. This gives me essentially an old fashioned box hearing aid... mic on the receiver next to my body. i just face whatever i want to listen to. i keep the receiver on my belt. perfect height for listening to kids. works ok for listening to adults.

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 9:59:45 PM)
What type of CAPD do you have, it was only recently that I found out there are different types.

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:00:07 PM)
rose: it fits into the "decoding" category in a couple of the models

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:00:44 PM)
rose: shows up as misunderstood consonants, speech in noise problems, sound localization problems, loudness tolerance problems, tinnitus

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:02:05 PM)
Is it possible to have more than one type of CAPD? Looking at how the types are described I could only rule out 1 out of the 4. Not sure which one he will be diagnosed with and was wondering if he could have more than 1.

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:02:29 PM)
rose: i would imagine it is possible to have more than one type, yes.

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:03:42 PM)
rose: how did his audiogram turn out? any unusual findings there?

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:04:14 PM)

CAPD

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 10:12:26 PM)

I did get the results of his language evaluation though and he began therapy last week.

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:13:45 PM)
rose: we have had several parents come to the list who've been told their kids have "normal" audiograms, but when we find out the actual thresholds, the kids actually have a slight to mild hearing loss. that is why i ask.

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:14:05 PM)

ncz/Texas (ID=46) (Apr 25, 2000 10:18:54 PM)
Marge-- Good idea-- I'll try that

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:19:06 PM)

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:19:54 PM)

hi tina

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:27:46 PM)
I recently found out that there are 4 different categories of CAPD and was wondering if you knew which your daughter had?

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:28:04 PM)
hi Tina

deb (ID=47) (Apr 25, 2000 10:28:08 PM)
not sure which one she falls into..think it was more the battery approach

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:28:10 PM)
rose: actually, depending on the model, there are 4, 5, 6, or 8

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:29:10 PM)
deb: teri james might be able to take your dau's test results & categorize them for you, since she's flunked in more thanone category.

deb (ID=47) (Apr 25, 2000 10:29:35 PM)
rose i can forward you an email about 4 ypes of capd and applications...look at notes too from dr j's last chat....

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:29:46 PM)
well anyway I heard of first 4 , I figured there could be more. I was kind of curious if it was unusual to fall into more than one category or if it was actually typical?

deb (ID=47) (Apr 25, 2000 10:29:52 PM)
rose i am hoping to see dr moncreif at u of f soon for that purpose

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:30:14 PM)
deb: does he work w/dr jay hall? this is u fla gainesville?

deb (ID=47) (Apr 0025, 2000 10:30:28 PM)
the 4 approaches are not "types" of capd...they are approaces that aud take in dx capd

deb (ID=47) (Apr 25, 2000 10:30:33 PM)
marge......yes she does *L*

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:30:56 PM)

deb (ID=47) (Apr 25, 2000 10:31:12 PM)
i am hoping too..ive been corresponding with dr moncreif

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:31:21 PM)

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:32:26 PM)

once you guys getto know him...he'll change..*S*

deb (ID=47) (Apr 25, 2000 10:33:21 PM)

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:34:13 PM)
this is my son's first evaluation and I am not certain if the testing facility is thorough enough, but it is closest to my home and I figure I can always take test results to childrens hospital and they can complete anything that first site may have neglected or missed

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:34:14 PM)

Was recommended by my pediatrician and is close enough to make it convenient especially if he has to go for treatment and is currently going there for language therapy. The place is called the NEspeech and hearingcenter.

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:37:41 PM)
I have no idea of the names of tests they did do except the audiogram, tympanogram and some reflex something or nother, but those were all more related to checking his hearing not for the CAPD

Marge (ID=37) (Apr 25, 2000 10:37:46 PM)
say hi to him for me if he's there, smile.

deb (ID=47) (Apr 25, 2000 10:37:54 PM)

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 10:41:12 PM)
i do what i can

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:42:12 PM)
like i said you don't realize how unusual it is to have a man involved. out of all my support groups only 1 other list has a male who is highly involved.

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:42:40 PM)
Only other men only join in as a couple with their wives

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 10:42:43 PM)
well i learn at the same time

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 10:43:05 PM)
i learn alot tonight

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:43:13 PM)
It is how I learned, only a month or so ago I hadn't even heard of CAPD

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:43:53 PM)
When i did things finally made so much sense, it amazes me that the medical profession isn't more alert to CAPD

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:44:24 PM)
Anyway i'm glad you have joined in, have a pleasant evening.

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 10:44:24 PM)
they don't how to fix

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 10:44:43 PM)
you too until next time

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:45:07 PM)
many don't even acknowledge it exists which is sad. It is hard to get an accurate diagnosis

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:45:28 PM)
will you be around tommorrow night or will deb

woody (ID=33) (Apr 25, 2000 10:45:51 PM)
i can deb works tomorrow

Rose (ID=43) (Apr 25, 2000 10:46:21 PM)
