Kathy (ID=12) (Nov 14, 2000 9:01:06 PM)
Hi gals!

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:01:16 PM)
The school doesn't want to do anything

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:01:25 PM)
I am new

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:01:35 PM)
My son gets Learning support and has an IEP

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:01:47 PM)
Does she have that available?

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:01:56 PM)
I told Donna I would help out even though I was new to the chat

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:02:11 PM)
You mean Debbie?

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:02:18 PM)
We are putting together an IEP

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:02:29 PM)
Has the school done testing?

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:02:37 PM)
Yes Debbie... sorry

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:03:02 PM)
Yes but it was a long time ago

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:03:25 PM)
We are getting her retested now

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:03:44 PM)
she is going to be tested by Christmas they say

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:04:07 PM)
Sometimes if you write a letter requesting them to do testing, they are required to do testing within a certain amount of time... This way she should get some help with learning support/class accomidations.

Hi drewk

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:09:10 PM)
Hi! What is the topic for tonight?

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:09:33 PM)
No specific topic.

Kathy (ID=12) (Nov 14, 2000 9:09:40 PM)
We have a son we assume has severe auditory processing issues and does have apraxia. We are going to Buffalo (SUNY) at the end of the month for more specific diagnosis. I will be in and out of the chat....time to put kids to bed.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:10:07 PM)
Debbie isn't here because she is busy getting ready for marriage renewed.

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:11:08 PM)
Do any of your children use the FM system?

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:11:31 PM)
I have one who does.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:11:33 PM)
My daughter, 11years old, has been dealing with CAPD since diagnosed at age 3.5 years. She is having yet another IEP meeting this Friday. I am trying to get her a certified tutor/ teacher for one -on-one teaching tactics.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:11:37 PM)
I am going to talk to my son's teachers about that next week. I am not sure how they will feel about it.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:12:02 PM)
Sorry, about FM device.

Kathy (ID=12) (Nov 14, 2000 9:12:17 PM)
Has anyone heard of or tried "listening" therapies (Tomatis, Berard)?

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:12:19 PM)
The audiologist just recomended it for my niece

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:12:43 PM)
I am hoping it works.... do you see any improvements?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:12:47 PM)
My daughter has had the FM system. At first she lliked it but now at an older age she has been somewhat ridiculed with it. It helped at first but it was mainly all of the teachers that didn't like using it.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:12:58 PM)
Jenny, I hear they can really help. Debbie Wood's daughter uses one and it has been good for them.

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:13:11 PM)
My dtr has had one for 11/2 years

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:13:32 PM)
Any problem with teachers? Dorien?

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:13:40 PM)
Has it helped?

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:13:40 PM)
I would like to get a one on one tutor for my niece too

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:13:51 PM)
No they seem to know better

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:14:20 PM)
however here in the state of FL I am being told they do not consider CAPD a disability that requires help

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:14:47 PM)
Right now my daughter has an uncertified aide that attends classes with her but she is unqualified to do any good

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:14:48 PM)
Tricia is now under 504 now and the school knows I will take them to court

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:15:51 PM)
I hope the FM system works well for her... THe teacher she has now is willing to use it who knows about the future teachers

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:15:54 PM)
All learning disabilities despite which state you are in will allow these benefits you just have to fight tooth an nail for these rights

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:16:08 PM)
For so long I was told to put Tricia in SE but with out knowing what was wrong I would not

Hi Karen

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:17:16 PM)
Just a word to the wise. All teachers that I have become involved with will SAY that they will do something and like it but realistically the class sizes are just too big and they become overwhelmed with everything and then just doesn't do it.

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:17:16 PM)
Hi Jade

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:17:25 PM)

I am seriously considering home schooling... however I have not met anybody as of yet that does home school a child with CAPD

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:18:39 PM)
When I meet with the teachers one on one they are very responsive, but there is hardly any follow through.

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:18:45 PM)
Hi KLS

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:18:54 PM)

Hello Sorry I'm late

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 9:19:07 PM)
Our school is looking into getting the FM system as the class is 25 to 1 ratio. But I was wondering how it affects the child when they are not wearing the system?

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:19:27 PM)
my child is equipped with the fm system

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:19:55 PM)
we have seen improvement with grades

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:20:00 PM)
When Tricia got her FM unit she did so much better

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:20:05 PM)
As with any other child with CAPD they will become bewildered and lost yet the school districts do not realize that if they just adjust the acoustics in all classrooms that everyone will benefit

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:20:36 PM)
today got my childs report card

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:29:40 PM)
Can't we are n't old enough

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:29:49 PM)
Can anyone tell me what a 504 is?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:29:50 PM)
great on fastforward

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:30:04 PM)
we are looking into it

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 9:30:10 PM)
what is fastforward?

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:30:15 PM)
I have heard it is expensive

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:30:19 PM)
yes karen my child has a 504

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:31:08 PM)
In Ny 504 is just giving the child a chance to use FM unit or other divices they need with out being undre SE

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:31:12 PM)
my daughter tested right ear 48% Left ear 62% normal limits are 72%

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:31:28 PM)
does anyone know what the severity would be

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:32:12 PM)
you can get info online on fast for word at www.scientiiclearning.com

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:32:26 PM)
Dorien, does that mean the child has an iep with a case worker, but isn't labelled se?

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:32:37 PM)
JJDAD, check out brainconnection.com or scientificlearning.com tor FastForword info.

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:32:56 PM)
No she does not. I would not let our school do that

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:32:58 PM)
from my understanding a 504 is a plan that allows a child special instructions in the classroom or school day to help without a IEP plan

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:32:59 PM)
thank you peggy

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:33:15 PM)
I hope to have my son use the FastForWord program

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 9:33:16 PM)
KLS and Peggy thanks I will check those sites out.

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:33:29 PM)
section 504 is a Student Accomodation Plan for the classroom

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:33:55 PM)
I have found out that a 504 is seperate from a IEP

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:00 PM)
thank you Jade

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:12 PM)
How does one get a 504 plan

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:12 PM)
I knew what I was trying to say lol

Hi DS

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:33 PM)
a 504 doesn't qualify a student for some services

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:36 PM)
I asked the school for the 504

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:43 PM)
How are you tonight

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:44 PM)
such as an SLP

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:34:55 PM)
Hi...just me Deb...I got the big boot off, and couldn't get vack in!

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:35:17 PM)
oh well welcome back

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:35:31 PM)
Thanks jennyskids!

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:35:32 PM)
Hi Deb, I wanted to ask you how your child's reeval went

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:35:33 PM)
being placed on an IEP would qualify a student with SLP

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:35:47 PM)
or Resource

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:36:39 PM)
I am new to all this 504 and IEP stuff .... all I know is I want help with what she needs

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:37:09 PM)
we talked to the school psycologist and she is helping us a little

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:37:11 PM)
this is what section 504 education policy states

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:37:23 PM)
Karen.,..well, we learned some new info that we didn't know before...he has some sort of a 'hearing' thing going on, not just his APD....that hinders him as well...not exactly sure what it's called...my brain is still on major info overload right now!

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:37:53 PM)
only because I worked with her boss at district level on a fundraiser then found out he was the person I needed to talk to all along

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:38:12 PM)
It is the intention of the District to ensure that students who are disable with the definition of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 are identified, evaluated, and provided with appropiate educational services

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:38:27 PM)
Plus, Dr. HAll wants him to have a language eval, because he has issues there as well. He's getting speech and OT since he was 3....he's now 8...

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:38:52 PM)
If it makes anyone feel better, as a pediatric OT (I'm home with my kids now) I was 1/5 th of an iep, and I still do not know how to go about advocating for my child.

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:38:58 PM)
who does a language eval-if not the speech path?

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:39:54 PM)
KLS....not sure to tell you the truth...unless it's the slp, but w/ language background as well...???

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:39:54 PM)
Deb... so this Dr at UF is a specialist in the field of CAPD?

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:40:21 PM)
jennyskids...yes, he is. I was very pleased with him today.

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:40:32 PM)
Under this policy, a disabled student is one who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, including learning, has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment. Students may be disabled under Sect. 504 even though they do not require services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Due process rights of disabled students and their parent under Sect. 504 will be afforded

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:40:36 PM)
Had youmet him before?

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:40:37 PM)
The school knows I work as an advocate and if I will fight for other kids I will fight twice as hard for my own

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:40:47 PM)
He was very thourough, and actually did some addt'l testing.

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:41:12 PM)
Thank you Jade for all your info

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:41:18 PM)
KLS....no I hadn't. But Dr. M and Debbie said we were in good hands with him...we were.

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:41:23 PM)
How did you get an appointment with him?.... Did you just call?

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:41:27 PM)
you welcome

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:41:32 PM)
your welcome

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:41:49 PM)
DId you start out with Dr. M and then proceed to Dr. Hall or ???

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:41:59 PM)
jennyskids...his ped. made the referral, and I then made the appt.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:42:07 PM)
Dorien, after I advised that I also was an advocate and that i was fighting so hard they had the audacity to tell me to find a support group to vent my dilemmas.

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:42:08 PM)
Hi Kman

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 9:42:14 PM)
Our Audiologist and Pediatrician keep recomending we send our CAPD child to a Neurologist. Have any of you done that? And what help would the Neurologist be?

KMan (ID=21) (Nov 14, 2000 9:42:18 PM)
hi

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:42:55 PM)
KLS....No, we didn't start with Dr. M...I was hoping we could, but with his insurance, I had to go to Shands, and she is at U of F...even though they are associated....go figure!

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:01 PM)
Did you use any of All Childrens testing?

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:16 PM)
Jennyskids I found Dr M online and called her up and made the appointment without a referral. My pediatrician doesnt see a problem

karen (ID=17) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:31 PM)
I must go, but thank you everyone for your info and support. Good nite.

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:32 PM)
I'm not familiar with that...what is it jennyskids?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:33 PM)
Yes I have seen the neurologist for my daughter and it was the best thing I have ever done. It eliminated alot of other problems and gave us an idea of where to begin for treatment. It is so expensive though.

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:35 PM)
ok I will look for her then

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:42 PM)
my child is not old enogh for all Childrens

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:45 PM)
Our school know when a parent member got in my face one time I told her that I was the parent and I am the only advocate that my child needed

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:43:57 PM)
Goodnight Karen

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:44:08 PM)
Night Karen...

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:44:11 PM)
They pushed their luck

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:44:26 PM)
Good night Karen

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:44:42 PM)
Deb... my niece had her CAPD testing done there

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:44:45 PM)
Dorien, good for you. I also told them that I was a support system and that maybe they should make an appointment with me.

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:45:08 PM)
they also offer the lindamood bell program I think?

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:45:24 PM)
jennyskids....I was really happy with it....I just can't wait to ge the report, so I can remember everything he told my Mom and I today!

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:45:31 PM)
to be tested at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, for CAPD, a child must be at least five and begun reading

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:45:38 PM)
I have seen people in our CSE come and go just as fast because they can not take it

jennyskids (ID=11) (Nov 14, 2000 9:45:50 PM)
I will look it up I am interested that is for sure

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:46:14 PM)
What is it that scares these parents away?

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:46:38 PM)
got me I still do not know

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:47:28 PM)
Ut-oh...hope jennyskids didn't get booted off.....

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 9:47:28 PM)
drewk do you go once to the neurologist for these test or is it a series of visits?

Jade (ID=16) (Nov 14, 2000 9:47:55 PM)
good night everyone

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:48:05 PM)
Goodnight JAde......

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:48:48 PM)
These tests are administered by an audiologist

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:48:54 PM)
Did you get the boot too?

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:49:02 PM)
I was booted off

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:49:08 PM)
yes I did

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:49:21 PM)
for about the 100th time tonight

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:49:22 PM)
They really did all of the tests in one long day. This Dr. also did the blood work and EEG that day too. Believe me it eliminated alot of thoughts about the CAPD and other linguistic learning disabilities

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:49:23 PM)
I was booted off earlier today when I was on an IM with debbie....

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:49:40 PM)
Something is going on again.....

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:50:55 PM)
ok I did not realize that the child had to be 5 and reading because my niece was going to private speech there since she was 3 and then they just did the testing

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:51:09 PM)
I thought it was because we were seeing a problem

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:51:39 PM)
Drewk, What is "other linguistic learning disabilities"?

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 9:52:25 PM)
Drewk thanks! My daughter is only 5 and had a very bad experience with the long non stop testing procedure our insensitive audiologist gave her when testing for CAPD. I do not know if we could go through another lond day of testing at this time.

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:53:37 PM)
DS how long of a wait did you have from the time you made the appointment?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:53:52 PM)
It is a LARGE word used by all of the neuropsychs and psychologists that means that there maybe other problems other that CAPD but they do not necessarily know what the other problems may be. They then , in turn, try to do the guinea pig effect to try to prescribe some meds that may or maynot be needed.

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:54:27 PM)
Whe I called to schedule testingfor APD they told me my almost 4 year-old is not old enough to do the testing. DrM is puttinghim in a trial study that takes 4 yr olds

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:54:32 PM)
jennyskids....I made the appt. on Oct. 4th...so it was a little over a month...

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:54:34 PM)
jjdad, they did the testing in a very professional way. Alot of small breaks and some nice people to make it very fun

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:54:50 PM)
wow that is not bad

Dorien (ID=14) (Nov 14, 2000 9:54:55 PM)
Good night

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:55:25 PM)
It took us 6 weeks to get the audiologists appt.

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:55:35 PM)
My niece is 9

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:55:50 PM)
No, I was pleased, actually. Then, yesterday, Travis came home from school, right after he got there! I thought I may have to cancel....I was sooo bummed...thank goodness we were able to make it!

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:56:36 PM)
That is great... how old is Travis? Did you say and I didn't remeber?

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:56:41 PM)
DS I can relate...W is schudled for the 28th and last week his ears were bleeding...Tubes were draining...

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:56:51 PM)
He is 8, and in 2nd grade.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 9:56:55 PM)
Drewk, Thanks for the explaination.

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:57:20 PM)
KLS...is he ok now?

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:57:27 PM)
It is amazing to me how much ear infections play a role in CAPD

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:58:00 PM)
went to school that day once we got the drainage to stop...what a little ear infection get ya down.. Dr. said he looked ok send so I did...

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 9:58:12 PM)
yet I am blessed that my son who has had ear infections since he was 5 days old shows no problems thank goodness

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:58:46 PM)
we had them from 6 months to 30 months

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:58:58 PM)
this is the first one in a year

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 9:59:03 PM)
May I ask why is everyone going outside of the school district to see an audiologist etc if I am understanding right I do believe that school districts are responsible for these testings and if they are unable to provide these testings then they are to send the child to other facilities to do the testing and the school's expends. REmeber a child is to recieve a proper education at no expense to the parents and in order to recieve that education then the needed testings and facts about that child needs to be obtained and mandated by that district

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:59:03 PM)
jennyskids...that was a ? Dr. Hall asked today, if he had a lot of ear infects. as a child...he never had one til he was about 1 1/2 y.o....and then, he didn't have a ton of them. His younger brother had more than he did, and Corey is a very smart kid...all a's!

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 9:59:11 PM)
I have not heard that ear infections play a role in CAPD?

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 9:59:52 PM)
That was the first question Dr. M asked me when I called her to talk to her and schedule an appointment

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 9:59:57 PM)
jjdad....they say that could be one of the factors causing CAPD...

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:00:19 PM)
jjdad, ear infections MAY contribute due to the lack of hearing at a very important time in the child's life but not the main factor

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 10:00:25 PM)
WOW I did not know that

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:00:50 PM)
HE is 11 and still has them... He could not talk hardly at all until he was three

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:00:56 PM)
drewk we are going out of the system here in fl cause the systems do not recognized APD as a condition that needs testing or treatemnt.

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:01:05 PM)
Another thing they say can 'cause' CAPD...is a traumatic birth...now, THAT, Travis had....plus, by using forceps at birth...which Travis did....

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:01:22 PM)
But that isn't right!

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:01:49 PM)
they told me they thought he had some form of mental retardation ... then we got tubes and I have not been able to shut him up..... he could HEAR

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:01:56 PM)
I believe that if you fight hard enough in FL that you would get more

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:02:15 PM)
I have afeeling that all of us down here are going to have to go to court I hope not..

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:02:26 PM)
I agree KLS

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:02:38 PM)
They are not helpful at ALL

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:03:00 PM)
They tell me not to mention APD try other angles

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 10:03:08 PM)
Drewk our school system was the one that asked us to go outside the system to have her tested by an audiologist and then told us to have the report sent directly to them. It was right expensive and my insurance would not cover it.

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:03:14 PM)
It is not a matter of fighting...if they don't recognize it they don't have to remediatie it or provide accomodations.

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:04:09 PM)
I think we all need to somehow, as parents, need to get CAPD listed as a recognizable disability....because IT IS...if ADD/ADHD is, then this should be as well.

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:04:24 PM)
I don't know how to go about getting it recognized either... I don't know even where to start a call regarding that'

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:04:30 PM)
agreed

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:04:41 PM)
I agree

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:04:59 PM)
That's where the NCAPD would come in...we'll have to check it out with Debbie...

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:05:04 PM)
who do we call... how do we start?

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:05:16 PM)
ok

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:05:38 PM)
I think the first thing to do is to contact the state vobard of ed and see what diagnosis' they recognize.

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:05:49 PM)
I will be more than happy to jump on that band wagon

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:05:56 PM)
I don't know if we start with our legislators, with the school districts, with special ed depts....I'll ask Debbie tomorrow....

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:06:25 PM)
AS I am sitting here and reading about thte FL laws I am getting more mad by the minute. All of the states have to honor all of the laws. If the school system TOLD you to have the testing done outside of the school setting and you did then you have set yourself up for them to say that it was a pre-existing situation and now the responsiblity is totally off of them and basically they have now won. If you had said at that time that they will have to be resposnsible for the bill because they had approached you about the dilemma you would have seen that they would have paid for the outside visit 100 percent. BElieve me. I also advised them they had to reimburse me for travel in which they did know because if you remember that the education has to be supplied to the parents and NO cost to them including travel

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:06:34 PM)
If the state recognizes it, it should be easier to get the individual counties to recognize.

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:06:46 PM)
But, there HAS TO BE A WAY...our kids ALL deserve to have WHAT they need, in order to suceed in school....NO MATTER WHAT IT MAY BE!!

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:06:54 PM)
KLS...right!

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:06:57 PM)
I have tried at district level and the head sec. of the psycologist dept just had her child diag. with CAPD and doesn't know what to do either

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:07:48 PM)
If the state does not recognize, then we need to get the statistics on howmany florida child suffer with this...

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:07:57 PM)
jennyskids....see, we need to have people in her position maybe, to try and jump in....

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:08:45 PM)
I asked her to help she said she would try

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:08:49 PM)
All districts are responsible if you make them understand that you know what is their responsiblity and you know your own responsiblities. The districts can send in the best bullshitters(excuse my language) around but you know the limits and make them know you know

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:08:55 PM)
KLS....and the sad thing is, there are probably sooooo many more who are NOT diagnosed, and have CAPD!

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:09:07 PM)
true

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:09:14 PM)
I know there has to be

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:09:38 PM)
jennyskids....great! She may be able to be a steppingstone...she would have access to things/info/people, that we all wouldn't.

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 10:09:51 PM)
Why not go to your congressperson in FL and explain the problems you are having with the school system not providing your child with the proper learning experience?

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:10:00 PM)
I have worked with kids in the school system that i helped tutor in reading and math and thought these kids show the signs of CAPD

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:10:27 PM)
drewk you are right but if they won;t even discuss it with us...the audiologists have been told not to discuss it... the speech paths aren't allowed to discuss it....you have to have a party willing to meet you at the table...

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:10:52 PM)
Don't try the legislators--Benn there done that. They do not want to hear anything about education because they do not want to fund any more to the education system in the states

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:11:00 PM)
jjdad....you're right...if EVERYONE, who has problems getting the help they need for their child, SOMEONE, would hopefully, sit up and take notice!

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:11:09 PM)
I wouldn't call Tall. now for all the tea in China

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:11:23 PM)
me either

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:11:40 PM)
damn, I'm still pretty new to Fla.!

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:11:42 PM)
It takes a lot of investigating and a lot of reading but mainly a lot of reading between the lines

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:12:12 PM)
I don't have the diagnosis yet... so I have been waiting to rattle the districts cage until I see DrM and know fo rsure what we are talking about

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:12:15 PM)
A little naieve, huh?!

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:12:15 PM)
I am new to this fight

jjdad (ID=13) (Nov 14, 2000 10:12:18 PM)
drewk what state are you from?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:12:45 PM)
previously South Dakota but now in the state of ARizona

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:14:08 PM)
I could write a book on these fights. I tape every meeting and every IEP meeting and then bring these tapes with me to the meetings. They are all marked so when I need to confron the people in these meetings and prove to them that they walk all over their words I replay these tapes. It helps a lot

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:14:12 PM)
See I do not know how they can not recognize it with it being a disability....That has been a

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:14:19 PM)
question for me

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:14:29 PM)
Once I get Travis' report, and we have to call for a new IEP meeting, I really don't think I'll come upon a whole lot of problems getting what he needs...hopefully, anyway. His school doesn't have quite the $$ issues to deal with.

KLS (ID=18) (Nov 14, 2000 10:15:05 PM)
right now I think we are getting what we need too.

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:15:08 PM)
I hope not

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:15:10 PM)
It is easy. They have to recognize it but they know that you don't know they have to recognize it so they tell you that they don't. Make sense?

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:15:18 PM)
See I know we are NOT

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:15:35 PM)
Yes and No

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:15:45 PM)

drewk...tes, it does....sadly. =(

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:15:55 PM)

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:16:35 PM)

They have the money but not just for your child as I have been told way too often. This money is already planned for other things most importantly for gifted children, extracurricular etc.

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:18:52 PM)
I hope you are right

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:19:00 PM)

Your state isn't the laughing stock but the whole system is stupid just like the educational system for all of the states

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:24:06 PM)
yes...then, about 5 weeks ago, they were each given $1,000.00 to buy whatever they wanted for their classrooms!! Even the art, music and PE teachers!

drewk...Agreed!

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:24:36 PM)

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:26:29 PM)

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:27:15 PM)

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:27:17 PM)

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:30:23 PM)
So many people now call it APD instead of CAPD... I was just going with the trend sorry

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:30:43 PM)
where are you from bob?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:30:43 PM)
Bob-Stop right there-You are new so let me be the first to tell you. If they tell you to go outside of the district for testing you tell them OK but where will the district be sending me and that they will be responsible for the payment and that travel reimbursement will be warranted.

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:31:22 PM)
good going drewk...lol train us right

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:31:23 PM)

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:31:24 PM)
jennyskids...you're right...sometimes I call it CAPD, other APD...depends on who I'm talking to!

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:31:43 PM)
Bob tell them that your insurance will not cover these expenses and thatif they feel that this is warranted then they will be responsible. Let me know what their faces look like

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:32:08 PM)
we did this on our own drewk--school was dragging feet

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:32:18 PM)
yes that is the first time I called it APD and I went and confussed him :(

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:32:28 PM)
lol

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:32:35 PM)

lol

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:33:12 PM)
Oh no! You have now been sucked in and they will not be of any benefit to you in the future. The responsiblity is solely on you. Why do you think they drag their feet?

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:33:30 PM)
My Dad has MS....so using ANY kind of abbreviations makes him nuts!

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:33:50 PM)
yes I imagine that is true

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:34:08 PM)

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:34:30 PM)
I didn't know if I missed it

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:34:43 PM)

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:34:44 PM)
his kindergarden teacher thought he might have a problem then suggested testing--then said he seems ok--no testing

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:36:04 PM)
jennyskids...I like that...I do the same with out Principal and Vp too...

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:36:06 PM)
She became concerned about getting in trouble that is why she pulled back her primary concern. And she would have been intruble with the district for wasting too much money on one child

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:36:13 PM)
me too

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:36:47 PM)
I was PTO president last year and was invited to all the teacher functions.. I really liked it

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:37:04 PM)
Our school only has about 370 kids...so, it's really a first named basis...

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:37:27 PM)
but to be honest so many other things bothered me I pulled my two out and started home schooling this year and love it

jennyskids (ID=22) (Nov 14, 2000 10:37:37 PM)
I wish I could with my niece too

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:37:47 PM)

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:41:18 PM)
Hi I am back I got booted again

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:41:25 PM)
Why isn't a speech pathologist testing. All that the audiologist can test for is primarily hearing.

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:41:32 PM)
#101 jennyskids!!!

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:42:01 PM)

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:42:10 PM)
did you get my post about homeschooling?

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:42:28 PM)
A SLP can't/doesn't have the needed booth, tests to do the CAPD testing.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:42:40 PM)
Yes and I envy you for your patience

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:42:49 PM)
We have done both

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:43:03 PM)

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:43:43 PM)
I wish I could Home school my niece but I do not have total custody so I am still fighting the school district

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 10:43:46 PM)
Bob, Usually larger Children's hospitals will do testing for CAPD

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:43:51 PM)
I understand that but if Bob isn't diving into the whole CAPD diagnosis right away I believe that a speech path would be of more benefit that an audiologist

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:44:22 PM)
jennyskids...I couldn't do it...I do schoolwork with the boys every day in the summer...about 1-1 1/2 hrs. a day...but I couldn't do the every day school thang...good for you!

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 10:44:36 PM)
They also have the Language/speech testers.

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:45:12 PM)
we are having him tested at a human development center as well--but wont have answers from that until january

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:45:21 PM)
See I tutored everyday at the school all day and I realized that I was teaching everyone elses kids then did 2 hours of home work every night

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:45:43 PM)
the hearing test was seperate--the audiologist mentioned

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:45:47 PM)
capd

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:46:02 PM)
From my understanding of the whole complex CAPD diagnosis in MY early stages I had to find all of my info on my own because at that time things still weren't in to to much understanding of the problem

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:46:15 PM)
jennyskids...smart move on your part!

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:46:45 PM)
I love it. I wouldn't change back for anything

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:47:12 PM)
Jennykids move to AZ and help me with my daughter!

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:47:21 PM)
Everyday is not a bowl of cherries but we love it

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:47:28 PM)
That's wonderful jennyskids...not everyone could do that.

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:47:29 PM)

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:47:42 PM)
Ocala, Fl.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:47:45 PM)

And Debbie, our 'usual' Tues. night chat hostess, is from Jacksonville, FL

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:48:47 PM)

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:49:25 PM)

71 for a high tom

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:49:39 PM)
jennyskids...have you tried the Be-a-friend program?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:49:47 PM)
Jennyskids just remember the trick to CAPD in the learning worl is constant repetition until the information has been absorbed in the memory bank of the brain

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:49:53 PM)
no i haven't what is that?

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:50:22 PM)
Yes I do that with her now on a regular bases

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:50:45 PM)
I have too

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:51:05 PM)
That tidbit is what makes me keep going with the school district until I get what I need to help my child learn

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:51:10 PM)
click on to www.NCAPD.org There, you will find info on the program...just fill out the form, and send it....it's just getting started.

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:51:28 PM)
She is falling through the cracks at the school evn though I am trying to fill the wholes as soon as possible

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:51:51 PM)
ok cool

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:51:57 PM)
I will

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:51:59 PM)
That is going to happen unfortunately but your doing everything right it sounds like

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:52:22 PM)
what is the program about?

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:52:25 PM)
jennyskids....just keep on trying to fill in those holes....it's a lot of work, but they need to do what is right...

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:52:54 PM)
I do I call them weekly

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:53:18 PM)
Bob did we lose you? I hope I haven't been to blunt with you and I didn't mean to care you off

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:53:33 PM)
They will help her or I am going to yell louder and louder

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:53:41 PM)
I mean scare you off

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:53:43 PM)
It's about others with CAPD kids/adults...who want to either BE a friend, or GET a friend...in your area...to talk about, or help out, in any areas where you may be having problems.

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:54:00 PM)
no im just listening--

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:54:15 PM)
ok cool I will check it out

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:54:35 PM)
cool seems to be my word tonight .... sorry

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:55:05 PM)
Like I said, it's just getting started, and I'm not sure how many people have signed up yet....Debbie would be able to tall you though, and tell you if there is anyone in your area.

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:55:14 PM)
hoping to find some answers to help my son--and just getting started

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:55:27 PM)
I think I had better sign up for that program. I want and feel the need to get the word out about parents paying for thier childs education when the districts are really responsible in a round-about away. The districts spend too much money too foolishly

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:55:33 PM)
Hey, no problem jennyskids...it's 'cool'! *L*

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:56:31 PM)
Well look guys I am in need of sleep and my little one just got out of bed again

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:56:42 PM)
drewk...absolutely, sign up for it! And yes, the districts do spend too much money foolishly!

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:56:51 PM)
So I need to go

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:56:58 PM)
and I agree drewk

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:14 PM)
Jennyskids...e-mail me...and get some sleep...

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:26 PM)
They are not thrifty at all

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:32 PM)
I will DS

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:37 PM)
Nope, not at all!

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:39 PM)
Goodnight jennyskids-nice talking to you and keep us updated

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:52 PM)
Goodnight all I will

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:57 PM)
OK...nighty night!

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:57:58 PM)
hey drewk my pediatrician basically said the schools drag there feet because its costs too much to do the testing fortunately some of this testing is covered by insurance

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:58:09 PM)
DS my email address is wsumey@yahoo.com

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:58:18 PM)

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:58:44 PM)
Good luck bob

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:58:55 PM)

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 10:58:59 PM)
I think I'm going to sign off as well...thanks jennyskids...just wrote it down!

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 10:59:07 PM)
thanks i love my boy and only want whats best

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:59:23 PM)
I understand completely

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 10:59:27 PM)
But that is not that point! Your luck that your insurance will pay but always remember that this is pre-existing now and if you ever change insurance this will be highlighted and may not be convered for a period of time

jennyskids (ID=24) (Nov 14, 2000 10:59:44 PM)
goodnight

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:00:00 PM)
Do you see what I mean about everything that is between the lines?

DS (ID=20) (Nov 14, 2000 11:00:23 PM)
Goodnight all...hope to see you all back next week!

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 11:00:44 PM)
im just hoping that we will be able to help

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:02:00 PM)
Bob- it kills me when I go to a sports function and see that the team has new uniforms-again etc. I think that money could have gone to something a little more useful like to my childs education rather thatn looking pretty running up and down a football field or a basketball court

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:03:08 PM)
Am I being somewhat anal tonight? If so tell me now so i can put myself out of my misery! HAHA

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 11:03:32 PM)
thanks for your input drewk---i agree--the schools in my area have money for building etc. lets hope that they will help my child when we ask

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:03:53 PM)
Peggy are you still there?

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:04:05 PM)
HI, I am here.

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 11:04:13 PM)
naw sounds like you've been there--done that kind of thing

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:04:26 PM)
I'm at work and a little busy, so I am afaid I wasn't into tonight's chat.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:04:46 PM)
Where do you work?

bob (ID=23) (Nov 14, 2000 11:04:49 PM)
well adios--thanks for your help

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:04:56 PM)
I have been following a little. TV Guide in Radnor, PA.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:05:10 PM)
Bye Bob. Take care and hope to see you here again.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:05:27 PM)
Sounds busy but your still the dedicated mom!

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:05:28 PM)
How are you Drewk?

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:05:54 PM)
I try to be... It isn't easy... Debbie has a great site here .

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:05:59 PM)
I am fine just frustrated which seems to be nothing new when I get strted on the school issues

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:06:49 PM)
It isn't easy dealing with schools. I have a teacher conference on Monday. I hope to bring up possibly using an FM device for my son in class.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:06:53 PM)
We shall see...

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:07:18 PM)
Yes she does and I am glad that I found it. i just hope that I can get my word out about the parent doesn't have to be walked on by the districts and their politics.

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:07:50 PM)
We have to really fight for our kids!!!

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:08:48 PM)
I can guarantee that you won't have any problems getting the FM device for your son. That is minimal and they will be happy to get one or to recommend using one for the child but a word of the wise-MAKE SURE THEY USE IT BECAUSE SAYING AND DOING ARE 2 DIFFERENT THINGS

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:09:40 PM)
I will. Thanks for the info... Has FM helped your child ?

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:09:41 PM)
i HAVE NEVER HEARD MORE EXCUSES COME OUT OF ANY OTHER MOUTH THAN THAT OF A TEACHERS OR PRINCIPALS

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:10:45 PM)
I am doing a lot of volunteering at school so I can get to know the teachers, kids and parents. It helps me!

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:11:04 PM)
It did at first and that is still indicated in her IEP but it isn't being used to her benefit. They say that she soesn't want to cooperate with it--She says they never want to use it on her. Sometimes those things can make a High pitched noise that bothers the rest of the class

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:11:09 PM)
Talking with other parents is the best.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:11:19 PM)
True!

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:12:00 PM)
I don't know how my son will feel about it yet. WE'll see.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:12:50 PM)
Well I had better sign off for the night! I have horses out in the pasture that I have to get in to their stalls before bed time. Do you have anyother questions or concerns or comments before I sign Off?

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:13:28 PM)
Well, I better be going... Thank you for the information!!! I am going to try to look back at some things I may have missed in tonights chat. Take care! See you again I hope :)

Peggy (ID=8) (Nov 14, 2000 11:13:31 PM)
bye.

drewk (ID=15) (Nov 14, 2000 11:13:40 PM)
