debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:22:42 PM)
i knew my daughter had problems with her speech by age 2. I suspected that she had a hearing loss. It took a long time to have her diagnosed.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:22:48 PM)
hi Peggy! How are you tonight?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 8:23:00 PM)

Hi Frances...

Frances (ID=22) (Jan 9, 2001 8:23:39 PM)
hi

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:23:53 PM)
Peggy, when you have a chance, please check out the auditory simulation we added to the NCAPD website today and send any feedback you may have.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 8:24:19 PM)
I was going to do that.. I'll let you know what I think...

Frances (ID=22) (Jan 9, 2001 8:24:28 PM)
what are we supposed to do?

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:24:30 PM)
Frances....Sarah has had a lot of trouble organizing her thoughts and expressing herself also, in speech and writing.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:25:05 PM)
Frances, what you do will depend on the test results that you gather from Dr Chermak and what her recommendations are.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 8:25:07 PM)
Debbie, It looks like my son may be going to a different school so he can attend a special language intensive classroom. Like a language support classroom.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 8:25:51 PM)
He has receptive and expressive language delays. Moderate in receptive and mild to moderate in expressive.

Frances (ID=22) (Jan 9, 2001 8:26:03 PM)
I know, the problem here is that we don't have special school or any help at all

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:26:26 PM)
What size classes will be in the new school? Is this a private school or one the district sponsors?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 8:26:31 PM)
We aren't sure yet, but we will see if this class is available and how it can help..

Frances (ID=22) (Jan 9, 2001 8:27:02 PM)
I have to do all, and I have a ttutor that comes every day to study with him and it have help.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:27:04 PM)
Frances, there is not alot of help in my area either. It takes eduating those you are working with.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:27:19 PM)
Peggy...when does your son begin?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 8:27:27 PM)
It would be throught the Intermediate Unit... (Public school) Smaller classes... The Special Ed Liasian (?sp) is looking to see if it is appropriate for my son.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:27:58 PM)
Peggy I will be anxious to see how it goes for you?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 8:28:10 PM)

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:35:50 PM)
Frances, the auditory simulation is a new simulation that Dr J Lucker and I have collaborated on .....We put it live on the web today. You can see the simulation on the NCAPD website at www.ncapd.org

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:36:03 PM)
Deb, it went live about 3 hours ago!

Frances (ID=22) (Jan 9, 2001 8:36:17 PM)

Debbie....I AM SOOOOOOOOOO PHYSCHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:37:02 PM)
An FM Trainer is a device that my daughter uses in school.....she wears a headset and the teacher wears a microphone. the teacher's voice is amplified in my daughter's ears and it drowns out the background noise

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 8:37:36 PM)
Deb, I"m pysched too....there is a feedback form on the end of the simulation now..encourage anyone you show the simulation to, to fill it out

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:14:58 PM)
I"m going to let you ladies chat for a few..I have to do something real quick..back in a few minutes.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:15:14 PM)
Okie-dokey....

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:15:36 PM)
What is your meeting about on Thursday Jill?

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:15:37 PM)
Actually we are hoping that we can move him to another school that has a hands on teacher. Timmy's teacher now just lectures....Boring and it's first grade

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:16:03 PM)
(This user has entered CAPD: From the Heart) (IP = 172.132.15.4 )

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:16:10 PM)
You better believe it...boring, and NOT a good way for him to learn...

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:16:25 PM)
Hi laurasmom...how are you tonight?

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:16:31 PM)
He isn't at the same level the rest of the class is so I guess Academic Probation

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:16:58 PM)
HI, Deb, and all...am I too late to ask a question?

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:17:15 PM)
Never

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:17:33 PM)
Travis isn't at his 2nd grade level either....and, he'll probably never be at the level as the rest of his classmates...BUT, I know, and cann see his BIG improvements....

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:17:41 PM)
Ask away!!

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:18:11 PM)
Thanks. Guess I'm confused and somewhat disheartened. My daughter, who's 10, has some apd issues, and we had been seeing an SLP for receptive and expressive help.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:18:37 PM)
How is that going for her? See any improvements?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:18:55 PM)
But this past Fall, Laura fell down a firepole at school and broke both bones in her right leg. She has great anxiety about getting hurt at all at this point.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:19:04 PM)
Has she been tested by an audiologist?

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:20:10 PM)
Can you give an example

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:20:18 PM)
There are certainly Sensory Integration issues and I believe she has trouble making out the distance to the ground. Yes, she has been tested for hearing( which is perfect) but her SLP believes that the apd tests wouldn't tell her more than she can already surmise from working with her.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:21:12 PM)
Yes, the APD tests would give you LOTS of info the SLP can't!!

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:21:23 PM)
You know, it's hard for me to know where to start. (that is, which problems to address. (As you can imagine, the greatest issues for the past three months has been getting her to walk again.

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:21:26 PM)
what does her regular doctor think?

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:21:37 PM)
My son is going to be tested for some SI issues....

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:22:16 PM)
Jill, that's an interesting question, as I've been to many specialists but not gotten into depth with her regular doctor. Deb, can you tell me about the SI issues you are looking into?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:22:58 PM)
Laura has great difficulties with background noise, in a restaurant or a classroom

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:23:01 PM)
(This user has entered CAPD: From the Heart) (IP = 24.190.206.1 )

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:23:01 PM)
Sometimes peds know more than specialists

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:23:37 PM)
He has a lot of tactile issues...always 'picking' at his hands, or fingers...doesn't like to be touched a whole lot...

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:23:51 PM)
Hi Franny...how are you tonight?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:24:01 PM)
Jill, I'll explore that route as well. I'm thinking now though, that if I concentrated on SI instead of apd issues, I might be able to help her avoid the next broken leg.

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:24:38 PM)
its fran, i got bumped off and couldn't getback on

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:24:51 PM)
enjoying the chat

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:24:51 PM)
She is terrified of pain. Screamed so the whole county could hear her when the cast was removed. When it's over, she rather maturely apologizes to the docs, nurses, and us.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:25:01 PM)
I saw that when I looked over to see who was in...sorry...welcome back!

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:25:10 PM)
thanks

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:25:21 PM)
I wish I could understand how/if SI and capd are related. any thoughts?

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:25:52 PM)
what does si stand for?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:26:01 PM)
Sensory Integration

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:26:09 PM)
thanks

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:26:23 PM)
Are they related? Deb do you know

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:26:26 PM)
It can be extremes....Some children hate to be touched, as Deb mentioned

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:26:49 PM)
laurasmom...have you read the book 'The Out of Sync Child'? I'm in the process of reading it right now...it is AWESOME for Si issues...and, I can see a lot of APD stuff in there as well. My sons teacher is reading it as well....great book!

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:27:08 PM)
Each sense (visual, auditory, tactile) etc, seems to have it's own issues and difficulties

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:27:14 PM)
my child was like that when he was younger too

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:27:40 PM)
do you find that the schools are not at all informed about capd?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:28:15 PM)
In Laura's case, it's called proprioceptive...has to do with her place in relation to the Earth. She's great (was great before breaking her leg,. ) at rollerblading, biking, dancing. But try to kick a ball and she'll sprain an ankle...or break her leg coming down a firepole

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:28:30 PM)
I'm not quite sure if they are related or not....but, you will often find that a lot of our children with APD, aslo have SI issues....they sometimes (A lot of times) do go hand in hand.

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:29:18 PM)
Yes, I've read the Out of Sync child. and you're right, it's very helpful. I guess I've just got to explore seeing an Occupational Therapist. But even the term is hard to get a handle on

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:29:39 PM)
Fran....absolutely..for the most part, the schools ARE NOT knowledgeable on APD..that's where we parents come in...to educate the educators.

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:29:58 PM)
has anyone heard that capd children could also have autistic tendencies?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:30:02 PM)
Yes Deb, you're right. Look how many people refer to difficulty with background noise for example. That's a Sensory Integration issue.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:30:33 PM)
laurasmom...Travis has has an OT since he was 3 yrs. old...and will probably end up having an SI therapist as well...once the testing has been done....

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:30:33 PM)
(This user has entered CAPD: From the Heart) (IP = 209.245.104.232 )

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:30:56 PM)
Hi Dawn...welcome....

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:31:10 PM)
hello. I'm very late. Just got the reminder so I thought I'd pop in. How is everyone?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:31:51 PM)
Deb, I didn't realize those are two separate specialists: OT and SI therapist. How are they different? I have a feeling it's a Sensory Integration therapist I should seek.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:31:54 PM)
Fran...yes, I believe some can have autistic tendencies as well....someone asked about that last week also.

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:32:38 PM)
Deb...some meaning who? sorry I'm in the middle of the conversation..

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:33:14 PM)
It has been brought to my attention, I need to research this further. I wondering if it is a characteristic of capd or autism / or both

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:33:27 PM)
laurasmom...Yes, they are different....an SI therapist is trained differently and has to be certified...and it's hard to find someone who is trained in SI....

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:33:40 PM)
Another question...Whenever I suggest to my daughter that she does something (semi) academic: read, write a thank you note, etc, her first response is to protest.

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:34:02 PM)
funny you should mention autism..we saw a neurologist last week who said he saw autistic like behaviors in Justin and also thought he may be having seizures

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:34:26 PM)
Same with Travis...he'll protest, and throw a fit...but, once he sits down to do it, he;s usually ok...but, will hurry through it!

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:34:34 PM)
we have no official diagnosis of anything..not even CAPD just so y'all know

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:35:02 PM)
oops, hit the send too fast! Do any of you have the same problem (protest first, do it later) with your child? I try to take off the pressure, but I do believe that some structure (especially at age 10) is neede.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:35:11 PM)
Dawn..how old is Justin?

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:35:11 PM)
hi..im back..sorry for delay

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:35:20 PM)
he's 27months

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:35:29 PM)
young I know

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:35:40 PM)
we have a capd diagnosis, been to two neurologissts. They don't vote on autism, yet school psychologists sees tendencies...

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:35:56 PM)
Deb, what does the OT do...or why would you see an SI therapist instead...is it because SI

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:36:06 PM)
is better trained for Travis?

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:36:15 PM)
laurasmom...I agree with you...YES to structure! And Travis will protest, almost always, and says he will do it 'later'....yeah, right!

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:36:42 PM)
reading a book, gets a later vote here too

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:37:47 PM)
Franny, how old is your child?

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:38:10 PM)
Are any of you located in California?

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:38:18 PM)
14 now, diagnosed at 9

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:38:23 PM)
laurasmom....The SIOT would be doing/treating different issues than his reg. OT...and if there isn't an SI therapist, his OT said she could do the SI therapy, as she has had some training, but isn't certified...make any sense?

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:38:26 PM)

hello, fine and you?

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:00 PM)
Has anyone here had an EEG done on their child? We're supposed to have one done to look for seizure activity.

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:04 PM)
You know, maybe we need to start a "great doctors or great specialists list."

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:09 PM)
doing great tonight..

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:25 PM)
Dawn....no EEG here....

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:41 PM)
The thyroid site I frequent has that (a great doctors list)and it has made a difference to many.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:44 PM)
laurasmom..the NCAPD has a national referral program for audiologist and slp's....it's beeing update and will be back online very shortly

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:45 PM)
He has staring spells

Jill (ID=26) (Jan 9, 2001 9:43:49 PM)
Isn't the LindaMood Auditory Center in San Luis Obispo could the recommend some one in WestLake for you

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:44:08 PM)
we had to take the referral program down temporarily to reregister some of the participants.

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:44:13 PM)
Debbie, that's great.

Deb (ID=24) (Jan 9, 2001 9:44:39 PM)
How long does he stare Dawn? How long has it been going on?

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:44:57 PM)
if you aren't familiar with the NCAPD website...take time to look at the new changes......TODAY we added an auditory simulation that dr j and I have been working on together.......

laurasmom (ID=27) (Jan 9, 2001 9:45:04 PM)
Jill that's a great thought. (And Sunnyvale's nice, too. )I'll pursue that.

franny (ID=28) (Jan 9, 2001 9:45:21 PM)

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:46:00 PM)
Hi OT thought he has absents (s?) seizures. _

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:46:09 PM)
What was the outcome Peggy?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:46:11 PM)

whats the chat about tonight?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:47:41 PM)
They used something to mark the places where they stick the electon pieces on his scalp.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:47:57 PM)
They then monitor his activity with the lights off.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:48:04 PM)
Then they put on a strobe light.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:48:12 PM)
general chat tonight TLC

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:48:32 PM)
It wasn't fun. Maybe they changed it now... I hope.

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:48:48 PM)
another question..wondering if anyone had CPC's in utero. (choroid plexus cysts) Yikes Peggy. When was that? Maybe it's better now. lol

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:48:52 PM)
They say that strobe lights can trigger seizures.

debbie (ID=21) (Jan 9, 2001 9:48:59 PM)

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 9:54:47 PM)
Peggy what kind of Receptive language delays does he have?

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:54:59 PM)
He has staring spells that looked to the neurologist like seizures

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:55:16 PM)
He had moderate Receptive language delay...and mild to moderate expressive.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:55:47 PM)
Just had him re-evaluated at DuPont Childrens hospital on Jan 2nd. Waiting for the reports.

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 9:55:53 PM)
is your son hard to understand?

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 9:56:36 PM)
what kind of moderate expressive ?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 9:57:08 PM)
No, articulation has improved a lot since he was 4 and had ear tubes. He still does have some articulation delays, not as bad as the language.

Dawn (ID=29) (Jan 9, 2001 9:57:43 PM)
I should get going. You all have more in common...age. will stop in again sometime. Thanks for your input Peggy.

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 9:58:13 PM)

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:00:05 PM)

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:00:42 PM)

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:00:53 PM)

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 10:01:41 PM)
my son has an aid with him though out the school day because school is way to hard for him.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:02:14 PM)
My son gets Speech Therapy for 1/2 hr twice a week at school. Only thing is they aren't meeting his language needs right now. I hope to address this very soon.

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 10:02:55 PM)
He is in 1st grade but the test at a beginning kindergarden level.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:03:12 PM)
They are thinking of sending my son to a special ed classroom which is for children with Language delays so he can get more help. Until they find such a class they may give him an aide.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:03:20 PM)
Is it helping?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:03:56 PM)
The aide?

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:04:03 PM)
Hi Drewk.

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:04:21 PM)
hi. I'm just listening

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 10:04:23 PM)
Yes the Aid helps him a lot. He would be lost in school without a aid.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:04:51 PM)
I am at work, I was a little busy earlier.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:05:03 PM)

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:06:14 PM)
Hi Bea

BEA (ID=33) (Jan 9, 2001 10:06:28 PM)
Hi Peggy

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:07:00 PM)
Does anyone have experience with special education classrooms???

TLC (ID=31) (Jan 9, 2001 10:07:12 PM)
Drewk & Laurasmom how long has your kids had CAPD?

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:07:37 PM)
The aide as you know does not need a degree to partake with our children's learning capacities which I am disgruntled about but as you know in the wonderful workd of IEPs onece you have this on paper just make sure that this is something that you never give up because you will never get it back

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:08:55 PM)
Peggy the school district wanted to place my daughte rin a self-contained class room but I did not go for it. Theydistrict sent me to watch some classes for a few days and I was not happy with what I saw

BEA (ID=33) (Jan 9, 2001 10:09:44 PM)
Would someone please explain auditory processing and CAPD?

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:09:57 PM)
My daughter started with testing when she was 3.5 years but not just testing of CAPD. I knew at this erearly age that something was just not "right"

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:10:08 PM)
They are the same thing.... APD CAPD

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:10:44 PM)
Dwerk, They are looking at a special language class for my son...

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:11:00 PM)
I don't know yet,

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:11:42 PM)
Bea, they renamed CAPD to APD not to long ago. I am not sure exactly why. They both are Auditory Processing

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:11:45 PM)
would this be a class that he would be in for the entire day and not mainstreamed into his home class

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:12:40 PM)
I am not sure yet. I think they will try to mainsteam as much as possible, they don't even know yet what is available.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:13:16 PM)
They may get him an aide in the mean time. He does have part-time learing support for math and reading and is doing well there with FM trainer.

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:14:07 PM)
This is what kills me about the system. When you say they don't even know yet I get the feeling that this district of yurs is really putting you off bacause they don't know how deal with the child and most importantly the parent

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:14:08 PM)
The regular classroom teacher said that the FM doesn't help in the regular class, so that is why we are looking at other options. FM works in Learining support .

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:15:25 PM)
I just had him tested at DuPont Children for Speech and Language. This report should help me when we do meet witht the school.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:15:43 PM)
I am going to visit any class they may suggest he attend...

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:15:47 PM)
The FM trainer worked for my daughter at first until I started to really get on the teachers about the slow progress. That is when they really admitted that they had not even really used the trainer much. Again it is another game of pacifying the parent

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:17:08 PM)
I am going to keep on top of things...Such a pain...

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:18:08 PM)
Dwerk, do they use FM now?

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:19:06 PM)
my only thing that I can really tell all of you in this chat room and for the record in the archives is to be careful because your child will slip into the cracks of the system before your eyes. I am a very persistent mom as all of you are too but the stuff that these districts have tried to tell me is unreal. No, my daughter doesn't use the trainer anymore

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:19:47 PM)
Thanks...

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:20:42 PM)
My daughter did finish the FastForward program which did seem to be of a benefit to her

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:21:10 PM)
I want to have my son do that this comming summer.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:21:46 PM)
Expensive though...

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:23:02 PM)
My daughter absolutely hated sitting at the computer for almost 2 hours doing the same thing time and time again but it did help. Mu husband is affiliated with the Scottish Rite program which helped the expense

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:25:34 PM)
Scottish Rite? What is that?

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:27:51 PM)
The Scottish Rite is a part of the Shriners. Are you familiar with the Shrines? This organization help children with lost limbs, prosthesis etc. The Scottishe Rite is a subsidiary organization that helps children with speech and language disabilities. My daughter started with this program wneh she was in Kidergarten

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:28:33 PM)
Sorry about the spelling in the last statement

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:28:48 PM)
Is it available for any child with Language delays/??

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:30:45 PM)
I do not know the answer to that question. I don't know whether a child has to be sever enough to receive this help

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:31:24 PM)
OK. It may be something I can look into if it helps with FFWD expense.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:33:12 PM)
Thanks.

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:33:13 PM)
Again I do not know. I do know that through large amounts of investigation that you will receive many benefits for your child both through outside societies and also within the school districts. Know your federal and state laws.

Peggy (ID=23) (Jan 9, 2001 10:34:18 PM)
Thanks again, Well, I have to go... I have some work to catch up on ... Have a good night ladies! See ya.

drewk (ID=32) (Jan 9, 2001 10:34:24 PM)
Oh and read between all the lines that the teachers and districts feed you. Do not look a gift horse in the mouth!!!!!!!!
