Through good and bad times, Ninety Pound Wuss have come full circle for the better. They started out as a dirty punk band from Port Angeles, WA playing local shows and parties. They got signed on the basis of a good drummer and band charisma... and soon after recorded they're debut album and a 5" single. As label mates-turned friends with MxPx, they ended up on a couple national tours with them, which included two sold out shows at RKCNDY, Seattle. It was an exciting year and Ninety Pound Wuss developed into a great live band, driving the kids wild. Since "the old days", however, they are not the same band.
With the influence of third and semi-new bass player Dale Yob and brand new guitarist John Spaulding, the Wuss take a darker and more dynamic angle to punk rock. On the new record "Where Meager Die of Self Interest", engineered by Tim Mac (Today is the Day, Unsane, Babes in Toyland and Supernova etc.) you'll find slow tempo hardcoresque intros that burst into their already known speed of light chaos and back again. The songs have several parts adding that post punk, Touch and Go quality with dissonant riffs and emotion. Jeff's goth roots come through by adding Moog here and there.
Since recording the new album, Ninety Pound Wuss continued to play locally, no longer sold out, 800 capacity venues, but more often at Uncle Rocky's dive bar. When things started moving and tour plans were made, Dale quit the band. Instead of giving up all together, the remaining members are taking some time off to get out from under the pressure and confusion of what they were and what they will be. When they figure it out, I bet they'll be unstoppable.
