Fronted by Tim Bushong on guitar, vocalist Aaron Scantlen, Jon Hill on bass and his brother Lance on drums, The Channelsurfers come out with their second Organic Records release, Where I Wanna Be. Based in Syracuse, Indiana, the Channelsurfers formed in early 1997, and made their prestigious festival debut at Cornerstone.
Concerning the band's moniker, Tim jests, "The name Channelsurfers was inspired by the Seinfeld episode in which Jerry explained the principal difference between men and women. While women are content to enjoy a television program from start to finish, men will incessantly surf from channel to channel. This is because women are the gathers, and men are the hunters-we want to see what else is on TV...Just kidding!" He continues, "The meaning dehind our group's name is actually an emphasis on other types of 'channels.' It's much more than going between channels on the television. Pop culture is pretty thin-there is so much more to life than the fleeting, shallow pleasures it's offering us. Romans 12:2 says, '...be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind...' Part of the tension of living in the pagan world as a Christian and participating in culture is not being overwhelmed by the sensibility of that culture, because often times that's the insidious part."
Both as a band and as individuals, The Channelsurfers are convinced that having a focused vision is essential for a group to embrace a lengthy, healthy lifespan. Concludes Tim, "Though we come from very different church backgrounds, we agree on the essentials-that the bible is God's Word and that all of life is to be under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We want to present a worldview that is consistent with God and His revelation through Scripture of His Son Jesus Christ."
