Kosmos Express

In 1998, Kosmos Express released Simulcast, the band's follow-up to 1997's critically acclaimed debut album Now. Produced by Gene Eugene and Rob Goraieb, Simulcast takes the band to a new level, musically and lyrically. "When I wrote the songs this time, I wasn't into any music," said Rob Goraieb. "When I wanted to feel inspired, I watched a movie, read or just talked to people. I had nothing to compare the songs to." Simulcast was recorded at the Green Room in Huntington Beach, California and mixed at Front Page Studios in Los Angeles. Terry Taylor provided additional vocal production and Robert Watson arranged strings for a couple of songs.

Kosmos Express signed to Sub*lime Records/Zomba in 1996 and within seven months, recorded its debut album Now and began touring the U.S.A. with a live show that can only be described as intense. The Kosmos sound is firmly rooted in the band's love for the British mod scene (early Who, Beatles, Kinks, Small Faces). They got their name from a Paul Weller song titled "Kosmos" (a song about looking for God beyond the confines). The "express" was the band's intention to musically move people and take them places beyond themselves. They're not about trends or cashing in on the name of Jesus. They're a band like bands used to be. A band people can believe in. a band you can believe in. "We're not interested in being what we're not. In fact, if people don't like us -- if we're not cool enough for you, we don't care. Honestly. They can go listen to somebody else. We know who we are and what we believe," adds Beau Burchell.

As the Cappuccino Kid once said, "people like to file things and have files to go to. It's far better if you elude their alphabet and devise your own code." And so it goes onto your screen, the very first Kosmos Express newsletter. A chance to start a movement. Fans of a band are family. Take nothing at face value, it certainly wasn't made that way. We should feel with our hearts not only with our eyes. A band communicates, they entertain and sometimes even touch your very core. Every so often we connect, often for reasons unknown, but it's in these times Kosmos most cherish and hope. Within our short space, we offer news, some hype and even a sense of belonging. Thanks for reading and more importantly, thanks for listening. May the Jesus we love bless you all.
