Living Sacrifice

"...this is one of the most brutal discs I've heard in a while...I don't think its possible to listen to Reborn in its entirety without hurting someone or something...so sample in an enclosed environment."
-CMJ 8.18.97 Issue 534

Living Sacrifice was started in 1989. Darren Johnson, Lance Garvin, and Bruce Fitzhugh met in seventh grade. About five years after meeting and becoming friends they decided to form Living Sacrifice. With Garvin playing drums, Darren (DJ) on vocals and bass and Fitzhugh playing guitar the band was not quite complete. They knew they wanted two guitars and so kept things low until hooking up with Jason Truby in the fall of '89. Truby's speed and skill was exactly what was needed for the band to be complete.

A demo was recorded in 1990 and Living Sacrifice caught the interest of R.E.X., a small independant label bashed in Nashville, TN. The self-titled debut Living Sacrifice was recorded in 1991 at Catamount Studios in Iowa Falls, Iowa and produced by Kurt Bachman of Believer and Doug Mann, then owner of R.E.X. The average age of the group at this time was 19. An east coast tour followed and then the band headed right back into the studio. LS recorded Nonexistent, in 1992 at Downstage studios in Nashville, Tennessee. The band then went on tour for the next two months in the summer of '93 which took them coast to coast with about 30 dates. Inhabit, 1994 the third album brought back the production talents of Kurt Bachman and, this time, Joey Daub of Beliver. It was recorded in Colbrook, Pennsyvania at Kurt and Joey's Trauma Studios. a studio that has gone on to record Earth Crisis and Turmoil. LS has also been featured on an industrial-influenced remix album in 1993 called Metamorphosis along with the band called Circle of Dust with Scott Albert of the same project doing the remixes. Before the recordind Inhabit of R.E.X. Music changed ownership, that along with some financial instability at the label prompted Living Sacrifice to leave the label.

In 1995 founding member Darrin Johnson left the band to pusue other interests in school. The vocal duties were quickly taken over by Fitzhugh who remained on guitar as well. And for the bass LS looked to Jason's brother Chris Truby who had been playing for years in other bands.

With the line-up intact LS demoed new material at Poynter Studios in 1996 for shopping to various labels. Tooth and Nail / Solid State Records was the label of choice for the band in January of 1997 Reborn was recorded at Poynter Studios in Little Rock, Arkansas with LS producing themselves.

"Reject" off Reborn has been featured on the Godmoney movie soundtrack (1997) out on V2 Records. It also features bands like Strife, Rollins Band, Decendants, Pennywise and Farside.

Living Sacrifice is Lance Garvin on drums, Jason Truby on guitar, Bruce Fitzhugh on guitar and vocals, and Chris Truby on bass.
