Training For Utopia returns to the scene after taking more than a year off of playing and recording. The new record, entitled "Throwing A Wrench Into The American Music Machine" will be released October 19th. This record is a direct result of the band's maturity and direction for the future. TFU has gone metal....and electronic. Fusing the better aspects of 'supersonic metal' and their signature 'TFU' sound with the world of electronica.
"We are just into different stuff now", says guitarist and main song writer, Don Clark. "We have definately expanded our musical interests and this record reflects it...we love Karp, Meshugguh, Unsane...but we also love the music of Garbage, Atari Teenage Riot and more mainstream bands...and you can definately tell once you've heard the record."
"Throwing A Wrench..." is a much heavier record than past releases. They have turned towards more straight forward metal riffs rather than the 'all over the place' sound of "Plastic Soul Impalement" (released in 1998). "We just wanted this record to be more marketable", says Don. "We wanted more people to understand it and be into it. I think if you are a fan of any type of metal, you will be into it...we hope"
It is a different TFU for a different millenium. With a remake of their 1997 song 'Dead Signal', entitled 'Dead Signal 2000', TFU has pushed the envelope once again. And they are not done...we can't wait to see what happens next. Country? We hope not.
