This may seem like a "small item."
In fact it is!
But, it's one that makes all the difference!

You know the old saying, "Don't sweat the small stuff!" Like so many of the cutsie cliches laid on us by our parents, this one is wrong, too!

Specifically for healthcare job searchers, the "small stuff" I'm talking about is Type Size on your Resume.

As surprising as it may seem, we get resumes from otherwise-savy medical and nursing candidates every day. Do these people think that all HR Directors are 20 years old with perfect vision? I have news for you, if you think that! Most department heads are around forty, and small print is a real pain!

Do you want the first impression you make on your prospective new employer to be that you cause them pain!? I think not!

At a minimum, type your resume in 14-point type. Yep, I said 14! Even though it may seem a tad large to you, resumes are customarily sent from recruiting agencies to hospital HR offices...and from HR offices to Nursing Units and Administration...by FAX. And, most FAX machines tend to reduce the size of whatever is being sent.

So, if it was small to start with....

Thought you'd like to know!
