Prayer
From sermon notes of Pastor

(Mark 9:14-29)
Anything that is
to be accomplished that has eternal value must be bathed in prayer.
We must have the
power, presence and blessings of God if we are going to be able to accomplish
His will as individuals and as a church.
Satan yields only
what he must:
1. He yields
only what is taken. Therefore, the ground must be taken step by step.
2. Prayer must
be definite. He yields only what he must. Therefore, our prayer
must be persistent. He continually renews his attacks, therefore
the ground taken must be held against him in Jesus, the Victor's name.
Matthew 11:12 --
Jesus said: "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the
kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force."
John Wesley:
"Give me 100 preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but
God and I care not a straw whether they be clergy or laymen; such alone
will shake the gates of hell and set up the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
God does nothing but in answer to prayer."
There is power
in prayer!
Though prayer is
one of the greatest weapons that the believer has and the devil reels in
fear of it, it's one of the weapons least used by believers.
How do we unleash
this power of prayer in our lives and in our church?
Understand that God
deserves to answer your prayers but you must first do the following:
Understand that
God is your source and that you need Him!
Philippians 4:19
-- "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory
by Christ Jesus."
II Chronicles 16:9
-- "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth,
to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward
him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth
thou shalt have wars."
Do you realize
that God can't work a miracle unless there's a problem? Miracles
come from problems!
1. Listen to
God.
Jeramiah 33:3 --
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not.
2. You must
obey God.
3. Pray and
obey!
You have no right
to ask God for anything if there's known disobedience in your life
1. Get rid
of sin in your life. Your sin will find you out.
2. You cannot
harbor sin in your heart and have God answer your prayers.
Have faith in
God
Your faith will come
from your trust and your trust will come from the depth of your relationship
with God.
Pray according
to His will
1 John 5:14 -- "And
this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according
to his will, he heareth us:"
God only honors one
thing -- His Word and His Word is His will.
Isaiah 55:11 -- "So
shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return
unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall
prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
Don't give up
Luke 18:1 -- "And
he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray,
and not to faint ;"
Luke 11:9-10 --
Jesus said, "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek,
and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every
one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that
knocketh it shall be opened."
Ask
and keep Asking Seek
and keep Seeking
Knock
and keep Knocking
1. If you've
listened to God
2. If you've
gotten rid of the sin in your life
3. If you've
heard from God
4. If you've
obeyed God
5. If God
has a promise for you in His Word
6. If you
have faith in God
7. DON'T
GIVE UP !
8. Remember:
the devil gives up nothing that you don't take from him, so pray with the
urgency of heaven and the tenacity of a bulldog
9. There cannot
be enough said about tenacity
Praise God
Too many times we
fail to praise God for the answers and His blessings and this is a sign
of immaturity!
Phillipians 4:6 --
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
1 Thessalonians 5:16
-18
Rejoice evermore
Pray without
ceasing
In every thing
give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you
