================================ *It's Been a Long Day* Greetings ================================ ~Hello from all of us at Long Day 'Zine~ Hey all and welcome to the third issue of the Long Day Zine. My concert went great, and so did Ali's. We both got to meet the guys and they are really cool people! They did get the scrapbook, but I don't know what they think of it...yet. I will let you know in the next issue though. Also, if you missed it, The guys were on Letterman on 11/13 and they did a great performance of 3AM. As we speak they are over across the Pacific in Europe touring all over there. They left Sunday, but I don't know when they'll be back. In the concert reviews you may notice it's shorter. We decided to cut out the 2nd half due to lack of space and suggestions. Don't worry! They'll all be in Issue #4. Another change is about our website. The address has been changed to -- http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palladium/9376/ Last thing is that this issue was sent out on a very special day! Read about it in News! Well, enough talking...here you go with Issue #3 of the Long Day Zine. (One day after Brian's birthday!) But, Missy (Rob's sister) told us that SNL canceled MB20 so MARIAH CAREY could be on! Of all the nerve in the world! Write to NBC and/or SNL and tell them to reschedule MB20!!! -Melanie506@aol.com (NOTE: You can email SNL at: ) I heard a rumor that VH1 has made a "POP UP VIDEO" out of "Push." Look for it in the next few weeks. Matchbox 20 was on Letterman (11/13)!! They played "3AM" and rocked the house as usual. Hey guys! The band did in fact get the scrapbook. We don't know YET, if they like it or not, but I should find out sometime soon and it will be in the next issue. So for everyone who was wondering and e-mailing me, Yes, they did get it! -RubyTues23@aol.com Also, a belated happy birthday to Brian, whose birthday was on the 16th, and also Happy Birthday TODAY! to Adam! "But I never had the patience to sit down at a typewriter and write short stories or anything like that. I started writing songs as a way of communicating ideas the best way I could." And through his songwriting, Thomas has captured the enduring qualities of genuine passion and a sense of directness that allows matchbox 20 to make a connection with the listener. Matchbox 20's debut album Yourself or Someone Like You is a remarkably sophisticated album from so young a band. From the groove that buoys the disarmingly rustic "Back 2 Good," to the incendiary rush that surges through "Busted," matchbox 20 never fails to strike a universal chord. The band's distinctive vocals and incisive hooks give the songs an emotional undertow that is perfectly matched by the band's instrumental skills. Thomas-who was born on a military base in Germany and reared in the southeast-honed his songwriting abilities while fronting in a variety of local bands in his high school years. While enjoying the local scene, Thomas was introduced to matchbox 20 drummer Paul Doucette and bassist Brian Yale. After playing together for a few years in bands and touring regionally, the threesome (Thomas, Doucette, and Yale) decided to start a new band - what was to become Matchbox 20. After recruiting the talents of Adam Gaynor from Criteria Recording Studios in Miami and Kyle Cook from the Atlanta Institute of Music, the lineup was complete. The band quickly joined forces with producer Matt Serletic, who co-produced the Collective Soul albums, and began tracking demos. It wasn't long before the project attracted attention from both coasts. And soon matchbox 20 found itself added to the Lava/Atlantic roster. The band wasted no time and headed back into the studio with Serletic to record Yourself Or Someone Like You. "I'm not one of those people who suffers for his art-it's more like I'd be suffering without it," says Thomas. "Writing songs is almost medicinal for me; it's the best therapy I can think of." That healing nature is evident throughout matchbox 20's debut, in the engaging ebb and flow that marks the gradually-building "Long Day" and the serene introspection that imbues "Hang." Thomas' knack for turning his lyrics into what could pass for conversation between two old friends is perfectly offset by the pliant backing of his band mates. The instinctive union among the five-immediately evident during the band's electrifying live show-is a reminder of what can be achieved when musicians never lose sight of the fact that the song is the most important thing. Original article found at: http://imusic.com/showcase/modern/matchbox.html ================================ *It's Nothing It's So Normal toYou* Reviews (CD, vid, TV performance, etc.) ================================ ~How they rate to you~ ~~~~~~ARTIST: Matchbox 20 ALBUM: Yourself or Someone Like You RATING: ***** FAVE SONGS: all 12 of them (every song is captivating for different reasons—it’s one of those wonderful CDs that you don’t have to worry about songs you don't like) REVIEW: Yourself or Someone Like You has been out for awhile, but if you’ve been holding out on getting it, now is your chance! It isn't hard core, ska, or techno, but it’s filled with mellow, sweet songs (and although it has been argued that all the songs sound the same, it really depends on your music style). Each song helps to express a different mood. You’ve surely heard "Push" and "3 AM" on the radio or seen the videos on MTV by now. I have met the band twice, and they definitely deserve the attention. The guys (Rob Thomas—vocals and guitar, Kyle Cook—lead guitar and BG’s, Adam Gaynor—rhythm guitar and BG’s, Paul Doucette—drums, and Brian Yale—bass) are wonderful, very much down to earth, and completely aware of their fans. At most shows, they will stay after until EVERY autograph has been signed. (E-mail me if you have any questions about the album, or would like to receive a digest about Matchbox 20.) Once again, I'll say the album is wonderfully produced.

================================ *Pull Out Some Hope for Me* Interpetations ================================ ~Where you interpetate a song, vid, or lyric~ In the 3 A.M. video, a guy bums 4 cigarettes off of Rob.... You think this is a message to all of you people who bum cigs off him at concerts? It's an omen...... -Melanie506@aol.com Hi everyone!! I've got an interpretation for the song "Push". This song is defiantely about relationships(like all of Rob's songs!) The song starts off when the guy and girl are in a fight, and are about to break up. The "guy" is trying to hold the relationship together, because he realizes he still needs her. As in the verse: "This aint over, no not here, not while I still need you around" In the following verses he was saying how it wasn't fair and that he should get another chance. In the chorus he is expressing how angry and hurt he was that the relationship was over, he just couldn't get over it. That's what I think the song means, but I'm sure many people have different interpretations, and I would love to hear them!!! Thanx for listening! -Missy :) MISSY7917@aol.com ================================ *If You’ve Never Heard The Silence* Poll #1 ================================ ~Opinions concerning Matchbox 20~ Hey guys! A:We're doing a bootleg section on our very own page, so visit there sometime soon and check it out! Q: How about adding something that the band has to say about the zine! A: We would love to do something like this, but it is very hard to get in touch with the band. If any of you meet them, ask them what they think of it, and let us know what they said! Q: How 'bout a "what if" section. Like, "What if you were stuck in the elevator with Rob... what would you do?" I think that'll be fun. A: We're taking that into consideration for the next issue! Q: How about more articles about the band? A: There aren't many out there, but we do try to get at least on in every issue. Q: Umm...pictures!!! A: We have many pics on our webpage so check it out there. Q: Make sure Adam's b-day is right. It's actually in November 26th. :) A: We're really sorry about this! We heard from someone very close to the band that it was October 23rd, but we later found out that she was wrong. We're sorry for the mix-up and won't let it happen again! : ) Q: uting the lettering in colour. A: This would be a good idea, but you don't realize that we're not an AOL only Zine. We have just as many non-AOL usubscribers as AOL subscribers and we feel that it would be unfair to the non-AOLers if they didn't get it in color and others did. So because of that, we're keeping it Black and White Q: The 'zine is awesome but I'd like to hear more about that rad chick Carrie :) A: I'm sorry, but Carrie is no longer on the Zine. She was kicked off for being to much of a hick. Just Kidding! : ) Q: I think there are too many concert reviews, and it takes forever to get past them all to read what is after them. A: For this issue, we've begun to cut down on reviews for 2 reasons. 1 --There are way to many that are really long; and 2 - We are going to need some for future issues because I dont think we have many European subscribers to send in reviews. Q: Do any of you know Adam's E-mail address? If, so maybe you could get him to contribute sometimes to the zine, just a suggestion : ) A: Nope we personally don't (and even if we did, we would never freely distribute it), but there are people out ther who do. Q: Maybe a note showing a few mb20 web sites. That way people don't ask all the time. And maybe at the end, showing people how to subscribe (or unsubscribe) to the other mailing lists. That might reduce other repeat "unsubscribe me!" letters. :) i love all the other stuff keep up the good work. :) A: We have a links section on our webpage so you should take a look over there for MB20 links. As for the mailing list, we are in no way affiliated with them, so if you want to know how to subscribe or unsubscribe from lists, ask the list owner Q; Get everything together in one instead of sending 4 at a time. A: That isn't possible because the Zine is too big to fit in one e-mail. We try to fit as much in one e-mail as we can, but it usually comes out to be 3 e-mails. Sorry for the inconvience. Q:Make the E-Zine maybe more interactive or make a web page where you can just write the article on the site and this is a plus for you guys cause it could bring in people that do not yet know about this publication.......That's only my suggestion otherwise this is a very good E-Zine about the band... A: We do have a webpage for the Zine! Visit it if you have time at this address!! -- http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Palladium/9376/ Thanks again for everyone who participated. We have one last question. Would you like this to be a new section in the Zine that will appear in every issue? If so, please E-mail me, MatchboxZ0@aol.com with "Yes" in the Subject. I won't look at the body, just at the title. If you don't want this to be a regular section, please e-mail me at the same address, MatchboxZ0@aol.com, with "No" in the Subject. Thanks! - Poll created and compiled by Meera (MatchboxZ0@aol.com)
