~Hello from all of us at Long Day 'Zine~
Salutations!
Welcome all to the fifth issue of the Long Day Zine. We've been busting a.. Well, we've been working pretty hard to actually get this out on time, and I think, for the first time ever, its gonna go out on time! Yay! Anyways, we've got a very special feature in this issue. I (Meera) got to interview Mamie, Rob Thomas's very own mother! I've known Mamie for a couple months now, and she is a real sweetheart, so don't forget to check that out. All of us here at the Long Day Zine are also excited about out upcoming concerts. Michelle is going to the Kansas City show, and Meera is going to the Chicago show, and Carrie might go to the Chicago one too. Ali doesn't get to go! They don't love her! JK - She got to meet them the first time around. Well, I'm gonna let you go to read the Zine. One last thing - GOOD LUCK goes out to Matchbox 20 on thier Grammy nomination, and if you don't know already, they lost at the AMAs to the Spice Girls in both catagories. But hell, we're not bitter .

Matchbox 20 is in the new Rolling Stone with Fiona Apple on the cover. I have a subscription so I got mine today (just a little too late to put the info in the new Long Day Zine). The issue should be out on the newsstands in a week or so. The issue has the results of the Reader's Poll and our boys were voted Best New Band. There is also a short interview with Rob along with it and a small picture.

Matchbox 20 is in the Feb. 1997 issue of Guitar Magazine. There is a big article on Florida bands like MB20, Creed, Sister Hazel, and 7Mary3.
-RubyTues23@aol.com
On Monday, January 26th as you probably know matchbox 20 performed on the 25th Annual American Music Awards. They did "Push" and I thought it was absolutely brilliant. You just couldn't ignore the passion they had. Oh yeah, they also lost both of the awards they were nominated for but we don't need to get into that .

~A special Matchbox 20 feature of the issue~
Here's an interview Meera did with Mamie, Rob's mum for the Long Day 'Zine. Enjoy! :)
Hey Mamie! Thanks so much for doing this interview for us. We really appreciate it here at the Zine. Well, lets get started!
Meera: So how does it feel having your Son being so famous?
Mamie: It is pretty hard. I do not get to see him as often as I would sometimes like. My daughter, Missy, lives only 2 ½ hours away and if I get real lonely we meet half way and I get to spend time with her and her family over lunch or even sometimes just dessert. I usually have to get in a plane to see Kelly.
Meera: Did you ever think he would make it this big?
Mamie: I think he will be bigger. From the time he turned our garage into a music studio I knew he was destined. Once the band took off I knew they would go far. They are all very talented and together they are awesome. To have that much talent together you can go no where but up.
Meera: Do you like Matchbox 20's music?
Mamie: I love there music. I heard alot of these songs before Matchbox 20. I also love to watch them live, they all put their hearts into what they do.
Meera: What do you think of Adam, Paul, Kyle, and Brian?
Mamie: Paul and Brian I have known for quite awhile. Brian is probaby the more introvert but is very talented and has a special gift. Paul is very tenacious as I have seen in the early days and all of the practice he put into playing the drums. Paul has a kind and gentle nature. Adam of course is a love and stayed with my husband and I when they were practicing in town. Since we do not smoke in the house and his allergies were not aggrevated. He was a very good house guest. Kyle I probably know the least but I think he is as sweet as can be and he is just so darn cute. All of the guys treat me real special whenever I am lucky enough to see them and I feel it is genuine. They are all very genuine people.
Meera: What do you think of all these girls who are in love with Rob?
Mamie: This is nothing new. Girls have always loved him. If they really know him they would probably really love him. But it is no different than any other crush. Everyone needs something to love and believe in. I am just glad so many people love Matchbox 20.
Meera: Have you ever been with Rob and someone has noticed who he was? What was
that like?
Mamie: Actually this just happend while he was home for Christmas. Someone said "Hey did you kow you look just like the guy from Matchbox 20". I smiled and said nothing because I knew Rob would not want me to embarrass him. Then the guy said "I bet you get told that all the time", he looked at me and I was smiling then he said "You are not really him are you?" Well I could not stand it any longer and I said "yes". The guy was very nice. He congratulated Rob and the band and thanked him for getting Orlando good press. I was very proud.
Meera: I'm sure you miss Rob when he's on tour and everything...how often do you
see him while he's on the road?
Mamie: Not enough. Christmas has been great being able to have quality time. This year my plan is to see them every 2 -3 months. I have started my savings to be able to do some traveling. I was lucky this year, I saw them here, in South Carolina, New Orleans, LA for the Leno show and then in Boston before they went over seas. Sometimes it depends on their schedule. I try and go to shows where I get a few hours with Rob by himself. They are very busy and quality time is very valuable. I try not to intrude too much in his business.
Meera: What do you think of the life of a Rock and Roll Star on the road?
Mamie: From what I have seen and experienced it is a lot of hard work. Thank god for Dean their wonderful Road Manager and all of their road crew. It is alot different for them now than last year at this time. But they all work very hard.
Meera: One last question before we end this -- What do you think of the Zine?
Mamie: I love reading the Zine. It is another way I keep up with what everyone thinks of the guys and what the real people are saying about the group. Keep up the good work.
Meera: Thanks alot Mamie for doing this interview. Is there anything else you'd like
to say?
Mamie: Thanks to all of the Matchbox 20 fans for your love and support. Without you there would be no band. And remember if you go to a concert and do not get to meet the band, they know you are there and it could be they have to hurry to the next town. They appreciate all of you.
