“What’s what?” Sammi asked keeping her eyes on the road.
“This paper, it’s got the personals on it.” Renae said looking at it closely.
“Oh that. Well ever since Matt and I broke up like a year ago I haven’t really been on a date so I figured I would give it a chance finding someone.”
Renae couldn’t help but laugh. “Sammi, you are a trip I swear, you wouldn’t do something like that! I know you too well.”
“I’m not joking Renae. I’m serious I can’t just sit around waiting for Matt to come back to me like I have been for the past year. I need to get out and meet some people.”
“Oh. So have you found anybody?”
“As a matter of fact I was talking to this guy, Jeff earlier on. We’ve been talking for about a week and we’re going to meet up next Saturday night.”
“That’s pretty cool. Maybe I should start looking. It’s only been a few hours but I just know JC will never ever forgive me.”
“Exactly. Tell you what tomorrow we’ll meet at your house and we’ll skim some adds and we’ll call one in for yourself. Maybe Mr. Right can find you.”
“I hope so. I need something to get my mind off of him. He’s on my mind 24/7 whether I’m with him or not.”
The girls arrived at the Ground Round where they were gonna snag a bite to eat before hitting the mall which was right next door. After they had placed their order Sammi got out a little notepad and a pen.
“Ok let’s start on this now. What do you want in a guy?” Sammi asked.
“Oh god, there is so much. I mean attractive is good but I’m definitely looking for a guy who is caring, supportive, able to forgive and forget and someone who has some kind of stability.”
“OK well this is simple.” Sammi said switching to a new piece of paper to write the ad down. “Single Female, 20, seeking single male” she stopped. “What age are you looking for?”
“Umm 19-24.” she replied.
Sammi picked up where she left off. “Seeking single male, 19-24, who is caring, supportive, able to forgive and forget, some form of stability, and likes to have a good time, being attractive doesn’t hurt either.” she put the pen down. “There ya go. You know what this place is 24 hour service. Get your phone out and I’ll call it in for you.”
“Ok, ummm...” she said digging through her purse.” Here it is.”
Sammi dialed the number and placed the call.
“You’re in tomorrow’s paper girl.”
“Great! I really hope I can find someone.” she said while she thought to herself “I wish JC could forgive me somehow.”
The two girls ate and then headed to the mall. Renae helped Sammi find a cute dress to wear on her date with Jeff which seemed to take forever. Then they went to Camelot Music and picked up some new CD’s.
“Sammi, we need to get a move on to the theater, it’s 8:45” Renae said glancing at her watch.
“Crap, let’s pay for this stuff and get down there before they sell out.”
They made it out of the store and were in line at the concession stand by 8:50. After stocking up on the popcorn and soda they headed to the theater where the audience was already massive.
“Well where are we going to sit?” asked Sammi. They looked around the theater for some vacancies and saw quite a few but stopped looking when someone interrupted them.
“Hey Renae, I’m so glad you made it.” Jen said. Jen was Lance’s girlfriend and one of Renae’s good friends.
“Hey Jen, what do you mean you’re glad I made it?” “Well cause I called you earlier and left a message on your machine that we were coming tonight and I didn’t think you would get the message.”
“Oh, well I didn’t. Sammi and I needed a girls night out so we came. I didn’t know. So it’s just you and Lance then huh?”
“Oh gosh no. Tiff, Justin, Chris, Jesseca, Joey, Lauren, Cattie, Nick and JC of course. And you two are so sweet to bring your best friends. JC brought Francesca. So come on we saved you a seat over here.”
“But umm Jen, I never got your message, Sammi and I are here. And I guess JC needs to tell you something. We’re gonna sit right here” Renae said taking a seat one row and 5 seats over from JC and Sammi sitting right next to her.
“Ok listen I’ll talk to you in a few. The movie’s gonna start in like 5 minutes.” Jen said as she sat down in her seat between JC and Lance. She leaned towards JC and was asking him questions. Renae watched and knew she was asking about what she had said. Jen got up and made her way over to Renae and gave her a hug.
“I’m so sorry to hear about you two. I should kick his ass for that, I know you didn’t mean anything by kissing that guy. Oh well maybe you two will work things out.”
“It’s not going to happen he already told me that.”
“Oh ok I’m so sorry Renae if you need anything I’m here.” She said as the previews began. “Oh shit I better sit down, later.” she said smiling and turning away.
Throughout the whole movie JC and Renae exchanged glances. What really got to her was when JC put his arm around his best friend Francesca and cuddled up with her. Renae rolled her eyes, sighed, and finished watching the movie.
