House of The Houser's
& Descendants

The Houser name comes form Germany, different spelling Hauser - Howser - Heuser - Houser.

Anderw Hauser set sail on Ship Elizabeth, from Rotterdam Petition records 23 March 1753 with Capt. Ross, to Charleston,South Carolina .

Land Grants: Andrew Hauser recived several Land Grants from 1753 til 1774 and these tracts were located in Amelia Township in South Carolina.

The Will of Andrew Houser is recorded in Orangeburgh County Court House, there are several Wills and several Letters concerning Inheritance of the Houser's.

John Houser born ca 1668 in Alsace, Germany and his son was Andrew Houser born ca 1713 in Alsace, Germany and his son Andrew Houser Jr was born ca April 1755 in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina, served as a private in South Carolina Continentals in 1774and several others over the years.

From the Wills you can see that Andrew Houser Jr. owened a large Plantation over 500 acres and he also had money as from the Wills he gave three of his sons three thousands dollars each and his grandchildren three thousands dollars each. He also gave them slaves. The Houser Water Mill still stands today. The Houser Cemetery is near the mill and home place where Andrew Houser Jr. is buried alone side his two wives. The home plase was burned down when the Yankees came thru on their march to the sea. David Houser son of Andrew Houser Jr. has a large platation near his father, David home was built around 1815 and is still standing in perfect state of preservation. In the back yard are ruins of an old Dutch Oven, last user 1895 to bake a 12 pound cake for a family wedding. We can see from Wills, Land Deeds that the Houser's were well established, economical, industrious, hard working Christain people.

One can not mention the Houser name without mentioning the Whetstone - DeBardeleben - Stoudenmire - Golsan - Murph for their inter-marriages between the familes.

The Houser's prospered in South Carolina, but new land beckoned their call. Lewis Houser son of Andrew Houser Jr. and his wife Sophia Stouenmire-Houser and their children and Rev.Henry Whetstone and his wife Elizabeth Houser and other kinfolks alone with 69 wagon's in their wagon train moved to Autauga County, Dutch Bend, Alabama, around 1821. The group settled on a bluff over looking the Alabama River. The land was fertil, and the Vermon Landing provided transporation for the many products of the Housers - Stoudenmire - Murph - DeBardeleben - Whetstone Platation.

The Asbury Methodist Church, first church in Autaugville, is situated on Whetstone Hill and was built in 1822. Rev.Whetstone was a Circuit Rider, He was married to Elizabeth Houser, daughter of Andrew Houser Jr.
