By the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance, a goodly number of dragon slayers had hacked their way into history, and many had been made saints in the process. The killing of dragons had become one of the few suitable ways of performing heroic acts of warfare and aggression and to be rewarded with fame, fortune, and sainthood.
