The

American Indian involvement.
Below
we will give a brief overview of his Native American Involvement:
NATIVE AMERICAN
INVOLVEMENT
Ken
and The Ocali nation were extremely instrumental in the founding and development
of several pow-wows still in existence today. (Chambers Farm, FL … St. George,
GA … Orlando, FL).
His
primary passion was Gourd dancing…. Having been a Korean Veteran, serving in
Special Services and later in the Corp of Engineers … his patriotic allegiance
ran deep to his core being.
He
always dressed for Grand Entrys and he ALWAYS Gourd Danced.
The
year of his passing marked his profound dedication to Gourd Dance and to
Chambers Farm, FL. He was scheduled to be admitted to the North Florida Hospital
in Gainesville, FL the week of Chambers (April) Pow Wow. He insisted that the
admission be canceled and re scheduled for after Chambers Pow Wow. We celebrated
his birthday and his son's birthday the day before the Pow Wow, as best we
could, as sick as he was.
The
following morning he was carried to the truck and we went to Chambers Farm Pow
Wow where the camping trailer had been previously set up.
Ken's
ulcer was acting up and as sick and as weak as he was…. He insisted that he be
dressed out for Gourd Dance. It became apparent to several Gourd Dancers that
Ken was unable to walk more than five or six feet. Tommy Toingtigh and Gator
(Fred Welch) placed him in a chair and carried him into the Sacred Circle….
They asked me (Selma) to stand behind his chair and proceeded to honor him
during the entire Gourd Dance session. At one point an unknown man appeared by
the oak tree on the south side of the circle and with an old military bugle
played "Charge" over and over! Ken started crying "I'm not dead
yet. Why are they honoring me as thou I was?" He was told "they are
honoring you and playing charge to give you energy and strength to fight the
biggest battle of your life and get well."
Money
was placed all around him in honor and to assist with medical expenses. Ken had
that money all placed
on the drum (Jim Anderson's) to return the honor to "the People".
The
last thing Ken did prior to entering the hospital was Gourd Dance. The following
day we left Chambers and went directly to the hospital.
His
last contact with Mother Earth was on Chamber's Farm, FL Pow Wow ground …..
his last act was Gourd Dance.
He
took his Gourd Rattle to the Spirit Realm to continue to honor those who Gourd
Dance.

Ken
studied under many… Schatua Gibbs, Catawba Leader; Brave S. Eagle,
Cherokee/Catawba leader; R. Jackson, Cherokee Leader; L. Petit, N.A.I.
historian; G. Gallant and E. Abernathy, N.A.I. historians; Roland Elk Wood,
Chippewa Leader , amongst others. Ken was a seeker of knowledge and facts …
being a research scientist at heart …. That trait carried over into his
practice of his genetic lineage as well. He sought answers ... concrete provable
answers and simply absorbed them with ease. After his bypass surgery in 1985, he
allowed the mystical side of his nature to grow and develop. At this point the
teachings he received no longer had to be taken to the lab and proven ……. He
allowed Spirit to direct his acceptance and understanding. During his illness
from January 1991 until his passing six months later, he even allowed his
psychic abilities to FULLY surface and utilized them as a natural , unrestricted
part of daily life. His gifts were profound and with crystal clarity. He was
above all else a teacher by example.
Ken
passed to Spirit June 1, 1991 after a long hospital confinement due to surgery
and radiation for a massive soft tissue malignant brain tumor.
After
his passing it was a struggle to maintain Ocali Nation…. Yearly fees, etc..
Between his passing in 1991 and 1994 , as co-founder and co-administrator of
Ocali Nation, I (Selma) came to the realization that The Ocali Nation had to be
modified in order to grow and fulfill its purpose. When finances permitted in
1994 The Ocali Nation was totally re-chartered as The Ocali Nations
Intertribial, Inc. which we are today. (See Current Charter Page). As an
intertribal organization we continue in the honor of our founder, Dr. K. T.
Wilson.
