Magnificent Frigatebird
Rare, found only when tropical hurricanes pass over
the county in the fall. Usually seen flying overhead during or immediately
after the storm. In 1989, 26 birds were observed during one storm. During Hurricane Gordon, 17 Sept. 2000, 14 flew at tree top level over my home in Winter Haven at dusk, flying south.
