A Tribute to the few that gave their lives so that the others could survive!
The Infamous 1969 GTO.
I purchased this 1969 GTO from the original owner. He had driven it over 250,000 miles. The last 40,000 were on a rebuilt 455 engine. It was an absolute screamer with a 4 speed and 3.23 rear. Unfortunately it was rusty as something pulled up from the Titanic. It also had suffered severe front end damage due to a collision with a deer. I sold the engine to a guy who put it in a 67 Boneville convertible, and managed to run 13.50's on street tires. It contributed parts to 40 different cars.
1967 GTO Tyrol Blue HO 4 speed.
This is a picture of the car when I first purchased it. It was a PHS Documented 4 speed, HO car. The previous owner had taken it to a body shop where they had blasted the car to bare metal, and taken the body off the frame. Through a chain of events, it was left outside to rust. When I purchased it, Most of the car was missing. What is shameful about the situation, is that the car was virtually rust free in the cowl and back window areas. I tried to get several GTO lovers to restore the car, but the car was too far gone.
This is all that remained when the junk man came to take it away. I cut out the cowl/dash, back window, right side quarter, tailpanel etc. What is really funny, is that the car was covered when they came to pick it up, and it really shocked them to see so little remaining. Of course about a month after it was gone, someone called who needed a frame. Go figure.
You are probably wondering why this car is on this page. Let me tell you a little about it. It is a numbers matching 67 GTO with dual gate auto, a/c, p.s, p.b and 3.08 safety track. Originally it was a Fathom blue car with blue interior. A previous owner performed a cosmetic resto. Engine runs like a champ, and the car even has the original spiral shocks still on it. In pictures the car looks good, but it is rusty beyond belief. The only thing holding the roof together is the vinyl top. The tail panel is rotted out, as is the decklid. The rear deck is falling in to the trunk, and all 4 floor pans need attention. If anyone wants to save this car, please email me. It is eating up some needed driveway space.
In case you had your doubts, here is what it looked like once I got down to business.. thin and crispy like a potato chip
