I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!
Chapter Two
Recap: “Of course,” Miranda said, “So, you’re the infamous Mac.
A.J. talks about you all the time. I think I know enough about you to write
a book. It’s always Mackenzie this, Mackenzie that. Mackenzie, Mackenzie,
Mackenzie.” Mir said with an almost disgusted look on her face.
“Wow, I don’t know what to say, except, I hope what A.J. told
you was good.” Mac said forcing a smile. Mac could already tell she wasn’t
gonna like Miranda. Mac just knew she wasn’t right for him, but she couldn’t
tell A.J. that, he was perfect.
Howie, Kim Ann, Stacy, Kevin, and Gina arrived not to long after
Miranda. Mackenzie announced that dinner was ready, and set another place
at the table for Miranda.
Everyone wanted Nick and Mackenzie to get along. None of them
knew exactly why Nick and Mackenzie didn’t get along, only Nick and Mac
knew that secret. Nick and Mackenzie had gone out for about 2 years, but
they had done it secretly. No one knew, A.J., not even Brian. They decided
it was better that way. Something happened then, the boys changed management,
and they could finally admit to having girlfriends. Mackenzie wanted Nick
to admit to it, but he wouldn’t. She said he was ashamed, and he told her
he wasn’t, but that he did have another girlfriend. Mackenzie was crushed.
She liked him a lot, but it never went any further. Even though Nick tried
apologizing many times, Mackenzie didn’t believe him. Nick then accused
her of cheating on him too, maybe not physically, but in her mind she would
only love one person—A.J. This made Mackenzie very angry, even though it
was true, and ever since that day, there has been an unspoken animosity
between them, and no one knows why, except for them.
Everyone thought it would be a really good idea if Nick and Mac
sat by each other at dinner. So everyone positioned themselves so when
Nick and Mac came, there were two seats side by side.
“Ok, guys. Very clever, really, but you know Nick and I don’t
get along. So would someone please switch seats with me,” pleaded Mac.
“No Mac. You’re are going to sit there. Even if it kills you.
Why do you and Nick hate each other so much?” said Kevin with authority
in his voice.
“Maybe I’ll tell you one day Kevin. It’s long and complicated,”
replied Nick.
“Yeah,” said Mac numbly.
“Really, well I would like to hear that story too. A.J. hasn’t
told me that story. He has told me that you model though, for IMG right?”
said Mir almost meanly.
“That’s because A.J. doesn’t know, and I would like to keep it
that way,” thought Mac. “Yes, I do model for IMG,” Mac said simply. Miranda
slightly smiled as if she knew that she defeated Mac. A.J. just stared
at Mac. They never kept secrets from each other, but it was true. He never
knew why Mac hated Nick, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to know.
After that, they sat around the table they made small talk,
and talked about the movies they had rented to watch: ‘Halloween H20’,
‘The Waterboy’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Elizabeth’, ‘Shakespeare In Love’,
and ‘Blade’.
“What do you want to watch first,” said Gina talking for the
first time that evening.
“Why don’t we watch ‘Blade’ first,” said Kim Ann leaning her
head on Howie’s shoulder.
“Sounds great hun,” Howie replied kissing Kymmi on her forehead.
“Hey Mac, I’ll help you clean up,” offered Stacy.
“That’s ok Stace I can handle it,” said Mac confidently.
“Are you sure?” asked Stace.
“Yeah, thanks anyway.”
Everyone got up from the table and went into the living room
to put the movie on. Mac stayed behind to put the dishes in the dishwasher,
and cleared the table.
A.J. was sitting in the living room with Miranda in his lap.
The movie was on, he could here it, but he couldn’t concentrate on it.
It bugged him that he didn’t know what was up between Nick and Mac. Miranda
could tell that his mind was on something else, and she had a pretty good
idea of what it was—Mac. She knew that A.J. and her would never work out,
because he loved Mac. She could see it in his eyes. So, to try to get his
mind off of Mac, Mir tried to kiss A.J., but before she could he got up,
and said he was going to see if Mac needed any help.
“Honey, she said she didn’t. Come back here and sit down,” Miranda
said sexily.
“I’ll be right back,” A.J. said almost hurriedly. Miranda sighed,
and continued the movie. She knew she was going to have to do something
drastic to keep A.J. as hers, and only hers.
