I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!
Chapter Eighteen
Recap: “I have been such a fool. I’ve been a fool for the past
21 years. I never realized what I had right in front of me this entire
time. Nick noticed though. I’m sorry that he hurt you, and I’m sorry that
you hurt him. He loved you—he still does. He helped me plan tonight for
you—for us. He knew you loved me the whole time. But I never knew if I
loved you.” A.J. looked at Mac who had tears in her eyes and a fearful
look on her face. A.J. continued, “but now I know.”
“So what’s the verdict?” Mac said looking at her hands, “Do you
love me?” A.J. didn’t answer her. He moved closer to her and kissed her.
It was a sweet, passionate, all-knowing kiss. A.J. and Mac slowly pulled
away from each other.
“Yes.” A.J. said simply.
Mac felt as if she was on cloud nine. Did he just admit to loving
her, and did he just kiss her?
“What did you say?” Mac said with tears running down her face.
“I said ‘Yes’. I answered your question and the answer is yes.”
A.J. said wiping the tears from her face. Mac turned and walked away from
A.J. crossing her arms. A.J. started to worry thinking that maybe he was
wrong, and maybe Mac didn’t love him. Before he could say anything Mac
turned to look at him and spoke.
“Do you know how long I’ve waited for you to say that to me.
For you to tell me that I was all you ever needed. That you loved me.”
Mac said almost forcefully, but with compassion. “I love you A.J. I always
have. I saw you with all of those other girls, and wondered why that could
never be me.” Mac said turning away from A.J. again after she had said
this. A.J. walked over to Mac and rested his hands on her shoulders.
“Look at me Mac.” A.J. said turning Mac around. A.J. put his
hand underneath her chin so that their eyes would meet. “I think I know
why there were so many girls who I couldn’t stay with. I was looking for
a person who knew me inside and out. I was looking for you. I know it sounds
lame, but it’s true. Please don’t doubt that I love you.” A.J. finished
by kissing Mac again. This time with more force and passion. Passion that
had been there for years just building.
“I don’t doubt it. I never will. You mean the world to me, and
I love you so much.” Mac breathed out before kissing A.J. again with the
same amount of passion.
“I have something to give you.” A.J. said slowly pulling out
of the kiss.
“What is it?” Mac said lacing her fingers with A.J.’s. A.J. then
pulled a box out of his coat pocket and opened it up to reveal a beautiful
emerald ring with diamonds around it. Mac gasped when A.J. opened the box.
“What’s this for A.J.?” Mac asked astounded that A.J. had bought
it.
“It’s for you. It’s a promise ring. It’s a promise that we’ll
be married one day.” A.J. said taking the ring out of the box and putting
it on Mac’s ring finger. Mac looked at the ring and them back at A.J. She
pulled him close and kissed him again. A.J. pulled her closer and let his
hand go down her back. They were definitely going to make this a night
to remember.
