for the longest time

Based on the song by Billy Joel

---------------------

Oh, oh, oh

For the longest time

Oh, oh, oh

For the longest time

----------------------

Lance shuffled through the many papers that were making a mound on his desk. Things with *N Sync were calm at the time, and he was diligently working on his up and coming artists. Concentration was hard on this given day...his mind was filled with images of his girlfriend. The scent of her hair and the feel of it on his fingertips, the way it felt to wrap his arms around her...every last detail made him grin.

He never imagined himself able to trust, to truly fall in love, and he hadn't any idea how it happenned. Being with the group, his time was limited, but somehow, this girl found her way into his always chaotic world. Maybe it was her smile that got him hooked, but with one meeting, he knew that there had to be more that followed. It was a feeling that he had gotten in his heart in the instant that she said hello.

She got into his soul, and in the past few months, her support helped him thrive. Every step of the way, understanding his decisions and encouraging them. She was a God sent, and he thanked the Lord for her each night.

-------------------------------------------

If you said goodbye to me tonight

There would still be music left to write

What else could I do

I'm so inspired by you

That hasn't happened for the longest time

--------------------------------------------

He could remember how it felt to be held by someone that truly loved him, the way it felt the first time her arms embraced him tightly...the first time he needed her there. He could have died right there in her arms that night, and the memory of how she felt sent chills down his spine. He melted into her, gave into her in every sense of the word. He thought he had become to hardened by his cynicism from the business to feel the way that he had felt, but she broke down those walls. She softened him. She loved him. She brought everything pure back into his heart.

--------------------------------------------

Once I thought my innocence was gone

Now I know that happiness goes on

That's where you found me

When you put your arms around me

I haven't been there for the longest time

---------------------------------------------

Lance continued to smile and relax from the pressures of the day with his baby secure in mind. That's what she was to him. It made no difference what hour of what day it was, he would drop everything if she needed him, and she had once. In less than a heartbeat, he found a way to get to her, to cradle her, and let her tears pour out. He caressed her hair softly, whispered and hushed her. Lance didn't leave her side that night, watched her all through the night, always checking to be sure she was peaceful. He needed to know that he could be that for her. It was beyond special to have that bond.

-----------------------------------------------

Oh, oh, oh

For the longest time

Oh, oh, oh

For the longest

I'm that voice you're hearing in the hall

And the greatest miracle of all

Is how I need you

And how you needed me too

That hasn't happened for the longest time

------------------------------------------------

With any relationship, Lance had doubts buried deep under all of the happiness. Relationships were difficult, that was a given, and the fact that the two lived states away didn't always help. Distance was hard, but the bond was strong. Something that felt as right as she did....Lance knew that it had to be meant to last. He often joked that God wouldn't send him an angel unless he was sending her to stay. He never imagined that he could be this happy, and he was. If for some reason, she left him tommorrow, Lance would never regret one moment. She brought him happiness in it's purest form, she brought him unconditional love.

---------------------------------------

Maybe this won't last very long

But you feel so right

And I could be wrong

Maybe I've been hoping too hard

But I've gone this far

And it's more than I hoped for

Who knows how much further we'll go on

Maybe I'll be sorry when you're gone

I'll take my chances

I forgot how nice romance is

I haven't been there for the longest time

----------------------------------------

He chuckled at the memory, fighting with his best friends. Lance was beyond hesitant of starting this relationship...the last thing that he wanted was a broken heart, but the guys were right. She deserved a chance. He smiled, *Sweetheart, you got your chance,* he thought to himself. He just couldn't get over how impressed he was by her in every way. Nothing was a dissappointment when it came to his baby. A year later, his love only got stronger, and he was ready.

----------------------------------------

I had second thoughts at the start

I said to myself

Hold on to your heart

Now I know the woman that you are

You're wonderful so far

And it's more than I hoped for

----------------------------------------

The phone rang, and with that call, Lance gathered up the essentials that he needed, and scurried out the door. His baby still racing through his mind, he couldn't help but smile as he pulled up to the Chateau Grande. He had asked her to meet him there, sent a limo for that special night.

"Mmmmm, hey baby," he whispered, wrapping his arms around her, giving her a warm deep kiss, "You look amazing," he grinned, admiring her beauty. The music played softly, a pianist played his solos and Lance led his sweet girl onto the floor. Her emerald green gown graced her curves just right as she glided onto the dance floor in his arms.

---------------------------------------------

I don't care what consequence it brings

I have been a fool for lesser things

I want you so bad

I think you ought to know that

I intend to hold you for the longest time

----------------------------------------------

She smiled innocently, staring into Lance's eyes.

"I meant to ask you sweetheart...." his voice trailed off as he reached into his pocket with a smile, she never saw his gesture.

"Hmmm?" she smiled.

"Melissa Anne, I was scared to love you, so scared, but you opened me the way I never imagined anyone could...Please, will you do me the honor? Melissa, will you let me hold you forever? Would you be my wife?" He got down on one knee, placing a gentle kiss on her hand, "I love you."

A tear streamed down Melissa's cheek, she ran a hand through his hair, "I love you, too, and yes, I will be your wife," she grinned and giggled happily. Lance jumped to his feet, lifting her, spinning his baby around.

"No one can make me feel the way that you do," he smiled, wiping her tears away, "And I haven't been here in heart in the longest time...."
