08-10-99 Thor just crossed New Hampshire state line. He is in Hanover and is doing good. The camp sites he will be staying at run about sixty dollars per night. New Hampshire is so rocky that even in the woods they have shelters or elevated platforms for the hikers to stay on, but they have to register and pay for useage.
08-23-99 Thor made it to Mt. Washington! His hike has been rocky and rough, but has been making good time and feels good. He will be in Maine around the 26th or the 27th of August. He should be complete with his hike on the 14th of September, and returning home around the 20th!
08-26-99 The following paragraph is from Melanie.
I spoke with Thor last night. He was in Gorham, which is still in New Hampshire but he said he should be in Maine today. He is doing good.
The hike over Mt. Washington was an experience. I'm glad he didn't tell me about the people who have died up there before he hiked it!!!! He
has 280 miles left to finish. I offered the suggestion of getting in a car and finishing in 3 1/2 hours instead of two weeks but he said that
wasn't the best idea! I thought it sounded good.
08-28-99 I just talked to Thor and he is officially in Maine. He is on the trail at highway 26. He is staying in a hostle tonight and expects to be done hiking around the 18th of September. His parents are leaving this weekend to travel up to visit with him and also pick him up when he completes the trail.
09-06-99 I spoke to Thor yesterday, he was in Stratton Maine. He met up with his parents and planned on spending the night in Stratton. He was going to hike into Caratunk Maine today and check for any mail then spend the night and continue the hike tomorrow. I just got some more pictures developed today and will scan some on my next day off, Thursday the 9th. I will also update his site at that time.
09-07-99 Thor just called, he is in Caratunk Maine. He expects to finish the trail in about 1 week to 10 days. He had to cross a river in a canoe along the trail yesterday. Their are less rocks and obsticles to deal with on the trail now. He has 2 days to reach Monson Maine, which will be the last point that he sees his parents before completing the trail at Mt. Katahdin. He has passed the 2000 mile mark today leaving less than 200 miles to go. I expect to hear from either him or his parents in 2 days, then as soon as the trail is completed. He did pick up his mail today and said to thank Melanie and Justin!
09-15-99 Thor's mom called me tonight and said Thor should be done by Friday the 17th. She has seen hikers that entered the last part of the trail (just befor Thor) already finish. Keep checking frequently I will post as soon as I get the phone call.
09-16-99 I just talked to Thor's mom, and he should be out of the woods tomorrow (the 17th) around noon. The park service has stopped hikers from going up the mountain to finish due to the weather from Hurricand Floyd. They are getting alot of wind and very cold rain. This evening Yogi, and Patch emerged from the woods and told Irene (Thor's mom) where Thor was located and that he would be out tomorrow. I will update the site as soon as I get a call from Thor or Irene.
09-17-99 Just talked to Thor tonight at 8pm. He is doing fine. He has 15 miles left to complete the trail, but the weather is bad and will not get better till Saturday afternoon. He says he will be done Sunday the 19th and will call me as soon as he finishes! Currently he is located at Abol Bridge (where hwy 6/15 crosses the trail).
09-20-99 THOR IS DONE! Thor finished hiking the trail at 11am eastern time this morning. He had to delay his finish due to weather from tropical storm Floyd. Yogi, Citrus, and Tree also finished hiking today along with Thor. Thor plans on returning home on September 23rd or 24th.
