Welcome to my chicken and duck page!

This is a picture of me,
and my rooster Fernando
--he's a Dark Brahma.
Here is a picture of a couple of the
new chicks I just got on 2/28/00.
They are a Black Australorp and
a Red Star pullet.
This are some more
of the chicks I just got.

Here's a picture of some
of my chickens
scratching for worms. : )
In there I have two Barred Rock,
a Black Australorp, a
Brown Leghorn, a dark Ameracauna and a
White Leghorn.
My Chicken Condo, West viewThere at the left is my chicken condo, seen from the west end. We built it out of pallets, two scabbed together for height, then stripped of slats for 16", uprights coated with tar and buried. The west half has tree-branch perches and a skylight, the east half has a nest "trough" running the length about 3 ft. up, a ladder, the feeder and waterer, and the door.
To the right you see a pic of a Barred-rock rooster. We got him from a friend to breed with our Barred-rock hens, and put the eggs under one of the Australorps I have who is broody. He was a huge rooster and VERY boisterous crowing. The very next night a coon got two of my hens--guess which ones? The Barred-rocks. I took Rambo to auction, and that night the average price for a rooster was $6.50, and I got $9.00 for him.Rambo, the Rambunctious Rooster
My Chicken Condo, East viewThere at the left is my chicken condo again, seen from the East end. From this view you can see the "skylight." The roof is made out of stiff plastic panels (like come under riding mowers from the factory), and one of them was light gray instead of black. Imagine how surprised we were when we nailed it up there and found out it lets light through for the chickens! Way cool. It's the one at the far left end. From here you can also see the roost or nest trough.

These are the types of chickens I have so far (all hens except the Dark Brahma)
  • Anconas (4)
  • White Cochin (1)
  • White Leghorns (4)
  • Brown Leghorns (3)
  • Barred rocks (1 pullet)

  • Black Star (sex-link) (2 pullets)
  • Fernando, the Dark Brahma rooster
  • Black Australorps (3 hens and 1 pullet)
  • Araucanas (or Ameraucanas) (4 hens and 2 white pullets)

  • I sell the eggs we get everyday to my neighbors and use the money to buy
feed and other things. I've even had--at dad's bidding (LoL!)--
some business cards made up. Thus the start of my first biz--"Allen's Eggs."

If you want some information on it, you can
