"Brian, honey, are you ready?" I asked walking into the bedroom. Brian was standing in front of the mirror, fixing his tye. We were fixing to go to Billy's funeral.
"Yeah, is Hayley ready?" he asked.
"Yeah, she's getting her Blue doll," I replied.
"Ok, let's go then," he sighed.
"I love you," I said smiling, looking into his beautiful blue eyes.
"I love you too," he said smiling.
"Mommy, bye bye?" Hayley asked coming into the room.
"Yeah, are you ready?" I asked.
She nodded and walked up to Brian and took his hand.
We walked outside and headed to the funeral home.
"So, what time do you think we should get married?" Brian asked grinning.
"I dont know, midafternoon?" I asked.
"Yeah, I was thinking around 4:30," he smiled.
"Yeah, that way we can have a long reception," I sighed leaning back in my seat. I turned and looked at Hayley who was about to fall asleep.
"You're lucky that girl sleeps a lot," Brian laughed.
"Why's that?" I smiled.
"She's got energy, can yu imagine running around all day after her?" he asked.
"No, I dont think so," I smiled.
"Here we are," Brian said pulling into the funeral home.
"Im not planning on staying long, just pay my last respects," I told him.
"Ok," he nodded.
We got out of the car and Hayley immediatly woke up. I held her in my arms, she was a little cranky from her nap. As we walked in, the funeral home was packed. People were crowded around the casket.
"You ok?" Brian asked, noticing I had tensed up.
"MacKenzie!" I heard a female voice exclaim. I turned around and saw Billy's wife walking towards me. Come to think of it, I didnt even know her name.
"Hi," I said softly.
"Im glad you came. Hi Hayley," she said smiling at Hayley.
"Hi."
"Um, we sent some flowers to your home, did you get them?" I asked.
"Yes, thank you so much. I appreciate all the support. I mean, I know it's hard, under the circumstances and I want to assure you that I dont hold anything against you," she told me.
"Oh, ok," I nodded.
"How long are you staying?" she asked.
"Um, a little bit," I answered.
"Ok, um, I hope to see you again. I have to go greet people and console," she smiled.
"If you ever need to talk, Im all ears," I told her.
"Thank you."
"No problem. It's the least I could do."
"Mommy?" Hayley asked pointing to the casket. The crowd was no longer around the casket. I walked over, Brian right behind me. I looked down in the casket. Billy looked so pale and thin.
"Daddy?" she asked.
I nodded.
"Daddy night night?" she asked.
"Yeah, he's night night," I sighed.
"Shh," she said bringing her finger to her lips. I smiled and kissed her forehead.
I looked at Brian and smiled softly. He looked at me sympathetically.
After about twenty more minutes of sitting around, I didnt know anyone and no one knew me. I never met his family and didnt know any of his friends.
"Im ready," I whispered to Brian. He nodded and stood up. He took my hand and we walked out together.
"Im just glad he isnt suffering anymore," I sighed as we got into the car.
"Yeah, it's for the best," he nodded.
"So, do you want to go look around for things for the wedding?" I asked.
"Sure, what should we look for?" he asked.
"How about a church?" I asked smiling.
"How about the church I go to," he suggested.
"OK," I nodded.
"I already told the pastor," he blushed.
"Aww... Brian, that's good," I smiled.
"He said July 4 was a great time," he smiled.
"Great, so, did you tell him a time?" I asked.
"No, that's why I asked you today, I have to let him know today," he told me.
"Great, so lets go to the church and let him know," I smiled.
"Ok."
We went to the church and went to the pastor's office.
"Hello," Brian said knocking on the door.
"Brian, so good to see you!" he exclaimed.
"We thought of a time," he told him.
"Oh, and is this the lucky lady?" he asked looking over at me.
"Yeah, and this is her daughter, Hayley," he told him.
"Well, its nice to meet you, MacKenzie, right?" he asked.
I nodded and smiled.
"Im gonna go home now," a woman said walking into the office.
"MacKenzie!" it was my mother.
"What are you doing here?" I snapped, not even realizing how rude I sounded.
"I work here," she whispered, tears forming in her eyes.
"Oh," I mumbled.
"Hi Hayley," she smiled.
"Hi."
"Where were you dressed so nicely?" she asked looking at me.
"Billy's funeral," I replied.
"Oh, how did that go?" she asked.
"It was a funeral," I shrugged.
"Could we maybe go for lunch?" she asked.
I looked at Brian and sighed, "I guess."
"Great, Im going to grab my purse," she told me and walked out of the office.
After talking to the pastor and everything, we were able to leave and have lunch with my mother.
"So, tell me how are the plans for the wedding going?" she asked as we sat down in the booth in the resturant.
"Fine," I answered simply.
"Well, thats good, have you gotten a dress yet?" she asked.
"No, Im going to go shopping today," I answered. Brian was coloring with Hayley. I thought he looked so cute, with a red crayon in hand and blue in Hayley's.
"Would it be ok if I went with you?" she asked.
"I guess that would be ok," I sighed.
"MacKenzie, I really am sorry about what has happened," she whispered.
"It's ok," I replied.
"I just want forgiveness," she told me.
"You're forgiven," I answered.
"I love you," she told me.
"I love you too."
"Are you still upset?"
"Well, yeah, you cant expect me not to be, but I guess I just have to get over it."
*Later*
"Brian, you have to go home. You cant go shopping with me," I protested.
"Please," he begged.
"You sound like a little kid!" I exclaimed.
"Please?" he asked again.
"No,I have to get my dress or at least attempt to get a dress," I told him.
"I'll close my eyes," he smiled.
"Brian, do you realize how many people are looking at us," I said glancing at a group of 14 year olds.
"Yes," he snickered.
"Brian!" I sighed.
"Hey Brian, what are you guys doing here?"Nick asked walking up, AJ at his side.
"Hello beautiful," AJ said taking my hand and kissing it.
"Hello AJ," I smiled.
"Oh my! Who is this BEAUTIFUL woman?!" AJ said a little too loudly and bending down to see Hayley eye to eye. She giggled and hid behind my mother.
"Who's this?" AJ whispered to me.
"AJ, this is my mother. Mom, AJ," I introduced and turned back to Nick and Brian.
AJ and my mother began to talk.
"Um excuse me," a girl asked coming, she looked like she could hardly breath. Suddenly my motherly instincts kicked in.
"Are you ok?" I rushed.
She glared at me, "My friend and I were wondering if we could an autograph?"
I looked a little offended, but turned to AJ and my mother, not to mention Hayley who was swinging on AJ's arm.
"Hayley, you are going to hurt AJ," I said going to grab her.
"Its ok. Dont worry," he laughed and continued swinging her.
"You sure?" I asked.
"Yeah, she's fine."
"Well, we might want to get going. Now that Brian has someone to hang out with," I told my mother.
"That's fine," she nodded.
I turned to Brian who was checking some girl out with Nick. I followed their gaze at the beautiful blonde who was leaning over a counter in the food court, talking to someone. She had long legs that led up to her short skirt.
"Brian!" I scolded. He jumped and blushed. I frowned.
"Im sorry," he said turning away. I walked up to him and gently grabbed his face.
"Keep your eyes to yourself," I smiled and kissed him softly. I felt him smile as he wrapped his arms around my waist and press his lips against mine again. We opened our mouths at the same time and let our tongues meet.
I heard Nick cough, uncomfortably. When Brian and I pulled apart, Nick was no where in sight.
"Where'd he go?" I asked looking at AJ.
AJ just pointed. Brian and I followed the point and saw Nick talking to the girl. I smiled, "There goes your chances."
I walked over to my mother and smiled, "Ready?"
"Yeah," she nodded.
"Bye baby. I'll be home later!" I called to Brian.
Brian frowned.
"Come give me another kiss,"I demanded. He walked over, smiling and kissed me.
"Bri kiss," Hayley said when we pulled apart. Brian bent down and kissed Hayley.
"Now, let's go find me a dress," I said.
