Chapter Thirteen

Adrienne:

“Let’s stop by the store real fast and get something to eat and drink before we get on the interstate,” Jennifer suggested.

“Sounds good,” I agreed.

Jennifer pulled into a gas station and we went inside. I began walking up and down the aisles trying to find something good to snack on. I picked up a bag of doritos and walked back to the coolers. I decided I wanted a Mountain Dew and walked up to the front of the store. I picked up the latest issue of Cosmopolitian and set it down on the counter, Jennifer right behind me with Dr.Pepper and Cheetos.

“This should be nutritious,” Jennifer laughed.

“I know really,” I smiled.

We payed for our things and continued our drive to Tampa.

I looked out the window and thought about Howie. I really liked him. I mean, I know Ive only known him for like a day, but I would really like to get to know him better. He just gave me this warm feeling and I loved that feeling.

“You’re thinking of Howie,” Jennifer told me.

I looked at her and smiled.

“Maybe,” I blushed.

“Yeah, I know. You two seemed to really get along,” she commented.

“Yeah, I was amazed about how much we had in common. And he actually listened to me,” I said smiling.

“That’s exactly why I love Howie so much. No matter what, he’d listen,” Jennifer agreed.

“So, do you think he would really want to get to know me or do you think he was just asking for my number because he felt he should?” I asked, suddenly self-concious.

“No, I think he does want to get to know you better. Maybe you two could switch weekends. Like, one weekend you go to Orlando and one weekend he goes to Tampa,” Jennifer said.

“Yeah, that’d be cool,” I nodded.

Howie:

Wow, she hasnt been gone that long and I already miss her! I was hoping she really did want to get to know me better and wasnt just giving me her number because she felt she had to.

“Hey man, Im going to go hang out with some friends. I’ll see you later,” Robert said walking into the kitchen where I was sitting at the table.

“Alright man, see you later,” I said.

“Dont worry man, I think she wants to get to know you too,” he said reading my mind.

I smiled and he walked out of the house. I decided I would go home, so I followed him out of the door. He locked it behind me.

I got into my car and drove over to Brian’s house. I wonder how he’s doing.

“Hey man, I just got off the phone with Kevin. He’s going to the airport. He said it looks like things are looking good for AJ and that girl Micki,” Brian told me as we walked into his living room.

“That’s cool. Guess what happened speaking of Micki,” I said, anxious to tell him about Adrienne.

“What?” he asked.

“I met Jennifer’s cousin Adrienne yesterday and she’s a really great girl and I really hope to get to know her better. But anyways, the reason she was in Orlando was because her friend happened to be on a date show. One in which she got a date with AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys,” I said smiling.

“Whoa, that’s cool. You didnt even have to go through Micki to get with her friends,” Brian smiled.

“We’re going to get to know each other better, you know hang out and stuff and hopefully something develops from that,” I said almost too softly for him to hear.

“Aww, does Howie have a crush?” Brian asked grinning.

“Shut up Brian,” I said rolling my eyes.

Kevin:

I swear if AJ slams on his brakes one more time, Im going to get out and kick his ass. This is like the tenth time in five minutes he’s slammed on his brakes for no reason at all. Finally we arrived at the airport and I walked up to their car. Micki got her bags out of the backseat of AJ’s Mercedes.

“Why the hell were you continuously slamming on your brakes?” I asked stopping to wait for Micki.

Micki and AJ both started giggling at the same time.

“Ok, fill me in,” I said annoyed.

“Micki kept trying to drink her drink, but I wouldnt let her,” AJ giggled.

“Ok, how about next time you act your age,” I said rolling my eyes.

“Well, let’s get going,” AJ said taking Micki’s bags absentmindly from her hands.

“So, Kevin, would you like me to give you Lexi’s number?” she asked.

“Actually, I was thinking about going to Tampa with AJ next weekend,” I told her.

“That’s a good idea,” she agreed.

“Then maybe I could actually talk to her or something,” I said smiling at the thought.

“Maybe,” she said raising her eyebrows.

Lexi:

“Hey guys,” I said walking into Megan’s living room. Leah was sitting on the couch watching a talk show.

“Where’s Megan?” she asked.

“She just got out of the shower,” Leah answered.

“Oh, well, do you feel better?” I asked sitting down next to her.

I knew Chad was an ass, but I didnt think he would actually do this to her. I mean, that is completely an act of an ass.

“Yeah, I’ll just have to start saving up again. I mean, I know it doesnt sound like I had that much saved up, but I was just finally getting things together and then he takes all my money,” she said, her eyes tearing up.

“Hey, dont cry. Im going to spend some time with my dear friend Chad,” I said walking out of the door. I walked to my car and drove over to Chad’s house. I knocked on the door and impatiently waited until a somewhat drunken Chad answered the door.

“What the hell is your problem!?” I screamed at him.

“Huh?” he asked.

“Why would you take Leah’s money like that. This is the second time she’s bailed you out of jail and you dont even pay her back?” I yelled at him.

“I got the money today,” he slurred.

“Give it to me and I will give it to her,” I ordered. He left the door wide open while he walked into his house. A foul smell emerged from his house and it was making me sick to my stomach.

He returned with cash. I grabbed the money from him, it looked like $1000.

“Dont you ever even think about calling Leah again or talking to her or anything. Ass,” I said and walked off. I got in my car and drove off.

“I wonder if all men are like this?” I asked rolling my eyes.

AJ:

“Twenty more minutes,” Micki sighed looking down at her watch.

“I wish you could stay longer,” I told her. I have no clue where Kevin went, I think he said something about coffee.

“Me too,” she said smiling warmly at me.

“So, are you going to call me when you get in?” I asked.

“Of course,” she said smiling.

“Great. I really do want to get to know you better Micki,” I told her.

She looked down shyly, but I could tell she was smiling.

“I really want to get to know you too,” she said looking up at me.

I took her hand in mine and brought it to my lips.

“OH MY G-D!! ARE YOU AJ MCLEAN OF THE BACKSTREET BOYS?!!” a girl that looked about thirteen asked.

“Who’s that?” I asked trying to look confused.

“It is you, isnt it?” she asked, hopping from one foot to the other.

“Who’s AJ?” Micki asked going along with it.

“From the Backstreet Boys. The man who is standing before you,” the girl said glaring.

“I get that a lot,” I said chuckling.

“I wont tell anyone it’s you,” she whispered.

“I think the whole airport heard you,” I told her.

“So, it is you?!” she exclaimed.

“My name is Chris,” I lied.

She glared at me and looked at me.

“I know it’s you because of your tattoos,” she said looking at me like I was stupid.

“Damn, fine, I am AJ,” I said giving up.

“Why’d you lie?” she asked.

“Because I didnt want a mob scene,” I told her.

“Makes sense. Can I have an autograph?” she asked.

“Yeah,” I told her.

She handed me a piece of paper and a pen and I did an autograph for her.

“By the way, you two are cute together,” she said smiling and walked off.
