Chapter Two

"I dont know what I do to piss him off," I whispered to my sister.

"Micki, you dont need to put up with that," she advised.

"Oh yeah Angie. What else am I going to do? Leave him?" I asked.

"Theres a starter," she said.

"I was being sarcastic. I couldnt survive without him," I whispered.

"Who are you talking to?!" Rob yelled coming into the kitchen.

"Im talking to Angie," I answered.

"Get off the phone and clean! I thought I told you to have it done when I got home?!" he shouted.

"Rob, I did clean it!" I protested.

"I said get off the phone!" he yelled.

"Angie, I'll talk to you later," I said, the tears already flowing freely down my cheeks.

"Call me," she said and and we hung up.

"Wheres my dinner?" he growled.

"I thought maybe we could go out to dinner tonight. We havent done that in awhile," I said smiling weakly.

"You're paying," he ordered. I nodded and he walked to our bedroom and I jumped at the slamming of the door.

I looked in my wallet. I had about fifty dollars from my waitressing tips I made on Friday before I left for Kentucky. (remember the aunts funeral?!) I sighed adn walked to the spare room and changed into blue jeans and a blue American Eagle tee shirt and a black belt and black heeless boots.

I left my long brown hair down and didnt apply any makeup, simply because Im not allowed. When I walked out of the bedroom, Rob was walking out of the room he went in.

"What size jeans you in now? 14?" he asked, observing my jeans.

"Six," I whispered.

"Couldve fooled me," he commented. I held back the tears as I grabbed my purse.

"Lets go," Rob ordered.

We decided, or should I say Rob decided, we were going to eat at Applebees. We were seated almost immediatly. Thank G-D, somehow that would end up being my fault. We ordered our drinks and sat in silence while we waited.

"Do you still love me?" I whispered looking down at the table.

"Shut up Micki," Rob said.

I sighed and sat back in my seat. I already knew the answer, I dont know why I had to hear it out of his mouth, it would only be more painful. I opened the menu and studied it. I decided I wanted a cheeseburger. When the waitress returned with our drinks, we ordered our food.

"Damn Micki, I think you've had enough cheeseburgers," Rob commented.

Just then Rob's pager went off. He looked down and smiled.

"I have to go," he said getting up.

"You cant just leave me here!" I called to him as he walked away.

He turned around and walked back to the table. He leaned in close to me and glared.

"You better be happy we're in public. Dont you dare make me look bad again," he hissed and with that he walked away.

I left some money on the table and walked out of the restuarant. I sat on a bench and cried.

"Are you ok miss?" someone asked sitting down next to me on the bench.

I looked up, quickly wiping away my tears.

"Chris!" I exclaimed. Chris was a very old friend of mine, back from school.

"Micki! Wow," he said smiling. He pulled my into a hug.

"How've you been?" I asked sniffling.

"Good, what's wrong?" he asked concerned.

"Uh, nothing, I have a bad headache," I lied.

"Do you need a ride? I was just leaving," he offered.

"No! Im fine, really," I said.

I would hate for Rob to see Chris bring me home. Chris looked at me strangely.

"Ok, well, I gotta go now. Call me sometime," he said.

"Ok," I replied.

He wrote down his phone number and handed it to me. I smiled and looked down at it. As soon as he walked away, I threw it away. Id hate for Rob to find that.
