Chapter One

"Nicky, Nicky, I've told you a hundred million times," I paused and smiled, "you must charm a lady, good looks are not enough."

Nick Carter definitely had good looks, everyone knew that. Tall, 6'1" I'd say, blonde hair, blue eyes. Your All-American stud.

"You're nuts, D." He said tossing at football at me while I stared blankly into the mirror. I felt it hit my side but made no attempt to catch it.

"Why am I nuts?" I asked Nick as I turned and faced him.

"In this business, charm doesn't matter. Looks don't either bro." I smiled weakly. I knew he was right.

I bet by now you are somewhat confused. Well, let me introduce myself. My name is Howard Dorough, but most people refer to me as Howie D.

~Flashback~

A few years back (early 90s) I met AJ McLean and Nick Carter. We realized we had a lot in common - music especially. Then Kevin Richardson made his way into our trio making us a quartet. After seeing an ad in the local newspaper looking for boy bands we decided to give it a try and nailed auditions, but we felt like something was missing. Kevin called his younger cousin Brian Littrell and convinced him to come down to Orlando and be part of our group which rounded out our sound perfectly. That is how The Backsreet Boys were made, and now approaching the Millenium nothing could be better for us.

Of course all jobs have their downfalls, and ours is no differnt. Since I've been a Backstreet Boy it's been harder to find ladies. Wait, let me rephrase that, the ladies are no problem, but finding one who truly cares about you, the person and not the phenomenom is difficult.

My thoughts were interupted, "Oh well, I still think she'll say yes," Nick grinned returning to our original conversation about a girl he'd met.

"I wouldn't doubt it Carter." I walked out of the bus and bumped into Kevin.

"Yo Kev." Kevin was probably the easiest person to talk to and the best to listen.

"Hey D," He walked past me and into the bus. I kept going until I reached the arena where we were playing tonight. That's when I saw HER. She was the most amazing woman I'd ever seen. Tall, probably 5'5" (I'm only 5'7" so it's tall to me)Dark hair, and when she turned I noticed her piercing green eyes. Her olive skin glowed in the sunlight. I was mesmerized. As I was crossing the street one of our busses drove past and when it cleared the woman was gone.
