Chapter Fifteen

"Thank you for coming," Howie told me as we were in his house.

"You're welcome," I smiled.

"So, Leah's house tomorrow at 6:30?" he asked.

"Yep," I answered.

"Are you recording tomorrow?" he asked.

"Probably," I sighed.

"Oh," he looked away.

"Well, I better go, before I get in trouble, again," I laughed.

"Ok, thank you for coming. Stop by tonight if it's not too late," he ordered me.

"Ok," I agreed.

With a brief kiss on the lips, I left Howie's house, on my way to record.

When I arrived at the studio,my manager was mixing some songs.

"Im here," I announced.

"It's about damn time," he mumbled.

"So, anyways, what song are we going to work on?" I asked.

"This one," he said throwing papers at me.

"What the hell is your problem?" I growled.

"Marissa, Ive been trying to get you in this studio to actually do some decent work, and you just arent cooperating," he said annoyed.

"Well, you know what? Did it ever occur to you that I may actually have a life outside of recording?" I asked, just as irritated.

"Marissa, Im sorry, but when you got into this business, you basically gave up any life other than the entertainment business," he said bitterly.

"Well, you know, screw this and screw you," I said and walked out of the studio. Im sorry, but having a personal life is a little more important than recording and doing shows every other night with barely a vacation when Im done touring.

"Marissa, come back here," he said coming after me.

"Why? So I can listen to you complain?" I asked.

"You know what Marissa? Fine, forget it, you see this contract?" he asked holding it up in front of me.

I looked at him blankly.

"Over," he said tearing right down the middle. I felt the tears begin to sting my eyes. Everything I always wanted was just ripped down the middle.

"Fuck you," I said and got into my car and drove off, not even looking back at him.

I drove to Leah's house and knocked on the door, tears threatening to spill any minute.

"I thought you were recording?" she asked confused as she opened the door.

"My contract was ripped, I dont have a manager anymore," I said breaking into tears.

"What?!" she asked shocked.

"He ripped the contract up in front of me," I said.

"Why?" she asked.

"Because he's selfish," I sniffled.

"Are you going to be ok?" she asked.

"Yeah, I can always find a new manager," I said wiping the remains of my tears away from my eyes.

"Let's go Leah," Shawn said annoyed coming up behind her.

"Oh, I guess I'll see you tomorrow," I said smiling weakly at Leah.

"Call me, ok?" she asked.

"I will," I nodded.

"Bye," she sighed.

I walked back to my car and drove to the only place I knew to go, Howie's.

"Hey," I said as he opened the door.

"I thought you were recording?" he asked confused.

"Yeah, well, I dont have a manager and it just didnt work out today," I said.

He opened the door wider for me to come in. I walked in and saw in the living room, Stephanie and Samantha watching The Lion King.

"Stephanie's favorite," Howie said smiling.

"Mine too," I laughed.

"Here, we can go back here and talk," Howie said leading me back to his bedroom.

"So, what happened?" he asked as I sat on his bed.

I explained everything, and by the end of the story, I felt like I was going to cry, again.
